:(My DS could not have picked a better time to screw with me. When I try to turn it on, it sits for a second, and as soon as it starts up, it turns itself off. Since I haven't had a problem with the DS until now, i'm not sure if it's the DS itself or the battery. For those who know what to do.....
......help.
PSZ is coming out in less than 2 weeks, and I want to play as soon as it's released. Which I can't do if my DS problem isn't fixed.

call nintendo and talk to them about your problem.

you can always take out your battery and put it back in but if you leave the battery out for too long, you can lose information in your ds.

Ah, i'll try that, but doesn't the battery only last about 300 hours? If thats the case, its long overdue to go dead.

I dont think they measure it in hours, its based on charges...Im probably wrong but I think its something like 800 charges and it should go bad?

Well, thats another thing. I pretty much let the DS live on it's charger.

That's happened to my daughters DS. She had forgotten to charge it and it eventually wouldn't hold a charge. After a day we were able to get it to charge again. Hopefully your problem will fix itself. good luck bro

My nephew's DS somehow got hotsauce jammed into the game port, and if he can't use his anymore i'll swap the batteries and see if that works.

There isn't now.

The batteries life is determined by the amount of time it spends charging. The more time it spends charging, the faster it wears down.

i dont believe it. it doesnt charge anymore if its plugged in. it uses the power coming from the ac adapter instead of the batteries

i am currently playing nostalgia right now with the ac adapter plugged into the wall and my ds lite. the light is green and not blinking or orange color (charging). its using the power from the ac adapter and not the battery

well if your under warrenty meaning you have owned it less than a year nintendo will repair it for free, itll just take a couple weeks of shipping it to the warehouse, i had to to this myself over a cracked hinge.

If not, well You should be able to play it on the charger at least, and there are many places in and out of home wiht outlets, like starbucks.

And the DS battery should last a long time, but after a while the life goes down, meaning it wont last as long off the charger, to maximize this, it best to drain off the charger down to red, then charge it back up all the way, and it can be kept on the charger, but once taken off, keep it off until the battery drains. Occasinally you can charge it partly or drain it partly, but dont make a habit of it. Ive had my current DS for about 10 months now, and it still works good as new. perhaps next month ill send it in, just to take advantage of the warrenty.

I dont think new batteries are too expensive if you gotta buy a new one.

I dont know the intricacies of it, but the basic reasoning is that the current still goes through the battery irregardless of the fact that the battery is full. This slowly degrades the batteries ability to hold a charge.

Long story short, try recharging the battery to full, unplugging it when is is full, and repeat.

well, i may take advantage of my warrenty, to make sure my buttons stay working. It seems seldom my L, R, and A buttons dont register immediatly when pressed, may be my mind playing tricks though. But im under warrenty another 2 months, perhaps ill send it in. But it seems im just imagining things right now.

And there is the problem. Even if its on the charger or no, it doesn't start up. It will act for the first 3 seconds(immediatly after turning it on), and the screen flashes white(for half of one second) like it's trying to get to the touch-to-play screen, but shuts itself off. If the problem is the DS itself, then instead of getting a new Lite, i'll just save up for a DSI. I'll still get PS0 even if I can't play it.

My DSi is almost always on the charger, usually when I go out I don't really take it but sometimes I do, like this time I had to wait for my friends that went to the casino, battery lasted the whole day even though I always leave it on the charger at home.

My suggestion is that you either wait for DSiLL or get a DS Lite, a plain DSi isn't really worth it, DSiWare still lacks good title after like 6 months that it's been released.

EDIT: If I were you, i'd look for a used DS Lite. (I think they go for around 100$ @ GameStop.)

wow that really is a problem, and it may not have to do with the battery, may be the hardware itself. may not have a choice but to replace it.
