SEGA!!!

Overall, I really liked this event. PSZ is an awesome game, and Sega is really starting to step up to the plate, and give Phantasy Star fans what they really want in a Phantasy Star title. Ruby was awesome, and he really does try to speak for our community. [spoiler-box]Plus, he's a total cutie.[/spoiler-box] My only gripe, and it is a small one, is that there is no hospital. No "pay 10 meseta, restore all health and tp" (or pp for zero). Now, the only way to restore health, is through items inside and outside of battle, and techs inside of battle. It's not a huge game breaking problem, but you end up spending much more meseta then you would have if you were playing PSO, or even PSU.

Since other people have already filled this thread, and other threads, with everything that went down. I feel no need to recap. But, I will say this... It was a great experience to have, and I would have been very disappointed, if I hadn't decided to participate.

Thanks again to Ruby, SEGA, and everyone else for the awesome time. :)

Team Ph4il is the name we gave to the team consisting of HUnewearl_Meira, Reon, Epitope and myself. We were two HUnewms, a HUnewearl and a RAmar, and we died horribly many times and failed to even finish the mission in the time attack competition, thus leading us to named ourselves Team Ph4il.

Team Fail consists of myself, Nai_Calus, Epitope and Reon. We called ourselves that at the event, because we kept dieing, instead of accomplishing our objectives.

A remake of PSO isn't exactly what I'm talking about.

Face it, PSO has been remade more times than it needed too. There was PSO, PSO v.2, PSO Ep 1-2, PSO PLUS, PSO PC, and finally PSOBB. These are all the same game, just with added content.

Now, PSU is, admittedly, terrible. It wasn't a good game when it came out, and it still isn't this many years later. However, you should not think that that means that I want nothing but PSO remakes for the rest of my life. PSZ is gonna be fun, but if were talking a full fledged console game again, then there needs to something of an evolution of the series.

PSU was a bad example of that. And you wanna know why? The creators essentially "forgot" why people played PSO as much as they did.

PSO was an action based rpg with a heavy emphasis on timed combat and loot.

PSU is an action based MMO, with a heavy emphasis on job grinding and crafting.

See, if Sega were to make another entry in the series, but kept those aspects true I think they could actually have something going on. But PSU shot itself in the foot by attempting to lengthen its gameplay via artificial means. For instance, PSU has always had a "fake" level cap, which is a very obvious method of requiring the player to spend years capping a character when it could have been done in months. As a result, I didn't even spend a thousand hours on PSU, whereas in PSO, if you added all my characters up I probably spent nearly 1000-1500 hours in game. It was an idea that had the opposite affect of its intention for a majority of the player base.

And the crafting was a huge problem as well. Everyone who loved playing PSO loved the rare hunting. Thats just a given, its why the game is a dungeon crawler, you are always either killing enemies or stealing loot. Thats it. So by making PSU a craft based game they essentially destroyed another aspect of the game.

And then theres all the minor things that just added up in the game. The disappearance of MAGS, the lack of timed combos, the inclusion of PP as "Ammo" for guns, the convoluted class system, the endless running of the exact same missions, the lack of enemy and boss types, the cheesy storyline, and of course the departure from the awesome cyberpunk inspired PSO artstyle and the adoption of the much blander corny japanese sci-fi look.

Now don't get me wrong, if we were to get a new, full fledged console PS ORPG, I think there are some good things that could be taken from PSU. The inclusion of vehicles, although poorly done in PSU, could have some interesting possibilities. The addition of photon arts and elemental bullets was not in and of itself a bad idea either. The 6 party member system was welcome as a way of diversifying the overall team mate roles. I'd even go so far as to say that if better handled, the Job system in PSU could create some interesting things as well.

But then again, I would be lying if I said that I doubt SEGA's ability at this point to do another full fledged console PS game. But hey, heres hoping. It's not like I don't give them the benefit of the doubt everytime they announce another sonic game that inevitably ends up being terrible.

im just saying. if sega wanted to do something to celebrate 10 years of pso. what would they do ? a whole new game? i dont think so. a rebuffed pso with some new quests . thats what im thinking it will be. that will be easy. but who really knows.

i dont see them coming out with psp and psz all around the same time then releasing a brand new game from the dirt. im saying it will be nice to play pso with improved graphics and nintendo wifi. but then again ill cry if i need stupid dub friend codes.

At the event one of the questions to Sakai(sp?) was if they are going to make a sequel to PS0 and he said it would really depend on how well this game sells of course. So do buy your copy!

A remake of PSO isn't exactly what I'm talking about.

Face it, PSO has been remade more times than it needed too. There was PSO, PSO v.2, PSO Ep 1-2, PSO PLUS, PSO PC, and finally PSOBB. These are all the same game, just with added content.

Now, PSU is, admittedly, terrible. It wasn't a good game when it came out, and it still isn't this many years later. However, you should not think that that means that I want nothing but PSO remakes for the rest of my life. PSZ is gonna be fun, but if were talking a full fledged console game again, then there needs to something of an evolution of the series.

PSU was a bad example of that. And you wanna know why? The creators essentially "forgot" why people played PSO as much as they did.

PSO was an action based rpg with a heavy emphasis on timed combat and loot.

PSU is an action based MMO, with a heavy emphasis on job grinding and crafting.

See, if Sega were to make another entry in the series, but kept those aspects true I think they could actually have something going on. But PSU shot itself in the foot by attempting to lengthen its gameplay via artificial means. For instance, PSU has always had a "fake" level cap, which is a very obvious method of requiring the player to spend years capping a character when it could have been done in months. As a result, I didn't even spend a thousand hours on PSU, whereas in PSO, if you added all my characters up I probably spent nearly 1000-1500 hours in game. It was an idea that had the opposite affect of its intention for a majority of the player base.

And the crafting was a huge problem as well. Everyone who loved playing PSO loved the rare hunting. Thats just a given, its why the game is a dungeon crawler, you are always either killing enemies or stealing loot. Thats it. So by making PSU a craft based game they essentially destroyed another aspect of the game.

And then theres all the minor things that just added up in the game. The disappearance of MAGS, the lack of timed combos, the inclusion of PP as "Ammo" for guns, the convoluted class system, the endless running of the exact same missions, the lack of enemy and boss types, the cheesy storyline, and of course the departure from the awesome cyberpunk inspired PSO artstyle and the adoption of the much blander corny japanese sci-fi look.

Now don't get me wrong, if we were to get a new, full fledged console PS ORPG, I think there are some good things that could be taken from PSU. The inclusion of vehicles, although poorly done in PSU, could have some interesting possibilities. The addition of photon arts and elemental bullets was not in and of itself a bad idea either. The 6 party member system was welcome as a way of diversifying the overall team mate roles. I'd even go so far as to say that if better handled, the Job system in PSU could create some interesting things as well.

But then again, I would be lying if I said that I doubt SEGA's ability at this point to do another full fledged console PS game. But hey, heres hoping. It's not like I don't give them the benefit of the doubt everytime they announce another sonic game that inevitably ends up being terrible.

I agree completely. I mean, I liked PSU to a degree, but honestly, it just couldn't hold my attention as well as PSO ever did. even by the time Blue Burst came out it still held my interest. PSU? not so much.

Isn't that funny. PSO held my attention much longer...9 years longer... than PSU and PSU has more content lol. To me it comes down to the quality of the content. In PSO everything was mostly original, minus the many booma-like incarnations, the scenery was kool and beautiful (and different might I add) at every turn. This is something that PSU lacks, it's too bland and repetative. Also I'm sure I'm not the only one tired of those damned reskins. New content to me isn't giving the same old content a new paint job ... wow I just realized this was turning into a full fledged rant, my bad... n.n;;
