According to updates on the official blog (http://ameblo.jp/phantasy-star-portable2/entry-10433627955.html) and official site (http://phantasystar.sega.jp/psp2/support/notice_20100113/) there were users were banned during yesterday's maintanence. They were banned not for cheating but for using sexual language. PSP2's ToS (http://phantasystar.sega.jp/psp2/support/rule/) includes statements against violent or discriminatory language, slander, and sexual acts as well as acts that go against "public order and morals." Essentially, those looking to get a little cyber action by posting naughty things in the comments section of the room were banned. No cheaters this time around it seems.

Back over at the official blog (http://ameblo.jp/phantasy-star-portable2/entry-10433627955.html), Dragon Sakai has given us level data to compare from a month ago.

This is last month's (December) data:

Here is this month's (January) data:

Where do you fit on this graph? I do think it's kind of funny that there are still a large number of users at the 11~20 level. I bet this means that they haven't played online since the demo finished. Or they just never bought the game to begin with. Sakai also mentions that they took data on sex, race, and job but that it didn't really change a whole lot since last month so he didn't post the data.

..leaving comments in the room? kinda like a guestbook where ppl leave your room a little message? or like you write somthing in your own room so other people can read it..?

Are they banned forever? This is great in a way. It shows they are seriously trying to support the game rather than throw it out there and rake in money.

I don't think it is a big issue, and just warning should be fine in that case tho.
Some person might just wanna RPing as Master Nav or Master Roshi and bamm, banned!

For the graph, may be those are 2nd char that were left over and unleveled when the full game were released.

Who has time to type out sexually explicit messages using the horrible in-game keyboard?

I doubt the bannings are a huge loss to these guys. Surely they were spending more time typing out "show me your boobs" than actually playing the game.

To give people a better idea what you are going to do, you can write comments when you create a game. Like "Only fighting Dragon" or "Let's talk!" or "Shabidoawoo a woo." These comments are viewable by everyone.

I believe they are permanent.

It wasn't roleplaying, it was people writing things like "Lets talk while I wank it."

Depending on how these numbers were gathered and if they measure them on a character or account basis, that's plausible.

15 year olds with a new, relatively free window to the wide world of the Internet. Probably :p

Heh. The first time I used Online Multiplayer I found a room with title and description that translated to "Masturbation" "Let's talk dirty"

I wish I had a burly Male Beast character with the bath towel outfit so I could've busted in and been all やらないか

whatchu mean?

PSP2, while there is an adhoc option, also has full infrastructure play over direct Wi-Fi using PSN (Japanese account with which one can set up). That's the service they can ban users from. Adhoc doesn't use servers, just PSPs connected together, so there's no regulation for play over those.

To play using Sega's services, yes. You need to have a Japanese PSN account.

It's not the Sega part that requires you to have a Japanese PSN account. It's the PSN part that requires it. It's part of that Sony protection stuff to keep CFW users from playing infrastructure. (To help prevent cheats used through CFW)
