A pop-up enemy is defined something like: instead of going through an animation to enter an area, such as warping in, falling from the sky, rising out of the floor, etc., a pop-in enemy will simply appear immediately.
It has been argued in the past that pop-up enemies cannot become rare enemies, because it was previously believed that they don't reset like enemies that enter an area normally. I'm happy to announce, after a few days of study, that I can finally give a conclusion to this argument.
Pop-up enemies can, in fact, become rare enemies. I spent some time on a couple different days this week telepiping in the southeast room of Forest of Sorrow just to test and see if one of the two pop-up hildes would become a rare. After about half an hour of piping tonight, one of the pop-up Hildelts showed up as a Hildetorr. This verifies Forest of Sorrow as the best place to use the telepipe trick looking for Hildeblues or Hildetorrs in the Forest, as that room can have four hildes available simultaneously.
