View Full Version : Hunter turned Fo, a few questions

I haven't really played a Fo in a really long time. i used to play one casually in PSO, have mainly been a hunter my entire career. After building up my mag to 100 mind, I started a Fonewm and got him up to lv20. From my experience so far, I have a few questions:

- Is it possible to use a tech that isn't in your pallet? There's got to be a way to use it through the menu but I couldn't figure it out. Big bummer if you cant...
- How does Fo melee damage work? Maybe its just me, but i feel like when I melee with a Fo weapon, i deal a pretty good amount of damage. Maybe I just don't remember how much my Hucaseal did at that level, but I didn't think it was this much. Is their melee damage determined by their MST maybe?
- How do slicers work? There is usually so much chaos going on that I have trouble figuring out if and when I am making a hit. I think I like slicers. If I want to be a slicer specialist, is a fonewm a bad choice? Should I pick a class with better ATA, or could a decent ata mag help enough?

That's all i can think of for now. I'll probably come back with more. Thank in advance!!!

1. No sadly you can only use techs from the pallete.
2. Melee damage by wand, rod, and slicer, are based on MST, not ATP. All other weapons deal damage by ATP.
3. They work like any other weapon except they are ranged :p FOnewm is a bad choice for slicers because of their low ATA scores. There are different slicer users people like to stick behind. Some like HUnewearls because of their high ATA scores and high MST, as well as the fact that they can be very versatile. Some people like FOmarls because they have high MST and decent ATA, so they don't require too much extra hit. Some people like FOnewearls because they have the highest MST (I believe), and will just add extra hit to make them effective. It's all based on choice but I think those are the 3 most used when it comes to slicers. Unless you use the HUney you'll need hit. I think most people go with FOmarls for slicers, but honestly I wouldn't know the exact statistic :p

You got me on this, highest level I ever got a force to in PSO was I think 40

I like playing as a melee class...

no all the techs you wish to use must be on your pallete, you can swap depending on your environment and party

Force weapons (rods, wands, slicers) uses MST in damage calculation. everything else use ATP. both use ATA to hit

slicers are ranged weapons that are considered melee in terms of damage calculation. slicers have the lowest ATA of the force weapons and FOnewm has the lowest ATA of the Forces. therefore, FOnewm has the hardest time using many of the slicers in SH. FOmarls have the highest ATA of the Forces and better MST than FOnewms IIRC.

FOmarls are the best slicer users. second being either FOmar or FOnewearl, debatable as FOmar have more ATA but FOnewearls have more MST that's Shifta-able

Hmmm after looking at the stats, I'm having trouble seeing why you wouldn't want to pick a human over a newman FO.

-Newmans get better MST but humans get 20 more materials so they could pretty much make up the difference in that alone.
-For nuking, Fomar gets 5% better boost to attack techs compared to Fonewm, further catching up to the MST deficiencies.

All the other stats seem to be in Fomars favor. Better with slicers and other melee. Equal to or close to the nuking capabilities.

Am I missing something. Are there some weapons/equips that fonewm can use that fomar can't?

FOnewy's get Gigas Romulus and Foie Haze, best D.saber and daggers in the game.

FOmar's have to fall on Emperor Axeon (subpar gunblade), Fenrirs (6* daggers), and Clair Doubles (insanely rare D.sabers with only lvl 2 celeb, no set PA).

but in favor of the Fomar/l's, they get Crimson Vis and Iros, best if not second best mechguns and shields in the game.

FOnewearls also have access to Rika's Suit, but thats only 1 point more evasion than the noble cloak

dont forget in sh mode, memorizing hostile resistances will be needed.
up until sh, zonde is the all round swiss army knife tech.
if you wanna nuke, the male fo's get attack tech bonus.
females get resta bonus which some feel is kinda overkill-i dont- and a bonus to one attack tech. fomarls get a nice bonus to grants, fonewearls to megid. both are strong but guzzle pp and in sh a lot of hostiles are resistant.

support wise- combo shifta+zalure or less often deban+jellen.
shifta boosts your/players attack power- i think its base stats plus weapon but not mag?
zalure drops hostile def and resistance, easier to get a status effect going.
deban is the redhead stepchild of the 4 support techs whereas it raises your def and resistance, depending on the situation, jellen may be a better use.
jellen reduces hostile attack power and accuracy. casts may benefit more from deban because their evasion is low anyway, but most fo's , newman hu's and human ra's will prolly benefit more from jellen.

jellen and zalure work on bosses...remember to do your part in the war effort.

Nope, just base ATP/MST + Materials. Weapon, Mag, and Unit ATP/MST are not involved when Shifta is applied.

It also lowers enemy EVP as well, allowing enemies to be hit more often. Just a note to add to the mix.

Yup, and that's most of the reason every time I'm about to face a boss with my FO, I swap out for Shifta and Zalure... although most of the time, I have both of them on anyways... :P

Not even as Fo, I think as a hunter, which has buffing available. Always set one of them up. I don't know why some human hunters out there cannot cast Shifta and Deband when only me and him in Shrine SH... It was close to defeat falz or both of us dead so I think the palletee setting has to change often to suit every situation in game, always has one buff and one attack spell on it when you are a Fo.

I like it when I have the non-cast hunters and rangers use their buffs and debuffs because then I have more room on my palette as a force. It's annoying only having six palette spaces in this game.

Yeah, but it's better for a FO to do the buffing because they can get out about 5% more increase than what a Hunter/Ranger could do. Although with some of the lower resistances and DFP of enemies, I could see a FO not putting on debuffs because they could get nearly the same results with a Human RA using their debuff, so the FO could use it for something else they might need.

After making a Force of the two races avail, with both genders to atleast a fair level (I reroll chars alot for various photon drops and such)

I have found my favorite is the FOmar. His nukage is beyond epic as far as I am concerned. Much better all around. The biggest weakness I have found is his heals just plain suck compared to the FOmarl.

Outside of that all the races play fairly close. Newmies get PP regen which is nice , however like all things it can be replaced by a PP4-5.
Not as effective as the newmi's but it works.
