Why isn't there a thread for this yet? I just got the game. Got the Ultimate edition too. It came in this cool model of Pandora's Box from the first game and had an art book inside. So far, I'm enjoying it completely. It's definitely the good old God of War we know and love.

The game itself looks stunning. It also sports an impressive amount of shit going on at once. Aside from the 10+ waves of enemies you usually encounter, there's a LOT going on in the backround. In just the first level, there's no less than six Titans all scaling Mount Olympus. They're all scale size too. They did a very nice job coding everything so there's no slowdown or lag. Sega should take a lesson from 'em.

Also, lol2ndpersongameplay

Those Titans are real too. They're not pre-rendered or anything. They can be shot from any angle, and all at once.

Santa Monica really knows how to set the bar for "epic", that's for sure.

(Now if only they could make a protagonist I like...)

What do you got against a guy whose willing to burn a man to death to open a door?

Eh, Krato's isnt really meant to be liked, though it might be nice if he had more than one facial expression. I played the demo, was pretty slick, but I'm tight for cash so it's doubtful I'll be getting this anytime soon.

Or more lines.

I thought about auditioning. Never got a call back. My tape went something like this...

"ARIES!!!"

"ZEUS, YOUR SON HAS COME FOR YOU!"

"THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH FOR YOUR HELP!!!"

All girl 3-way going on in front of me

Of course I want this game, having played the other two before on the PS2, and have the Collection on the PS3.

Though I just cant afford it right now.

I find the Trophies to be hilarious in this game.
Kratos ends up chopping off Gaia's hand, followed by obtaining the trophy Handy Man.

Interesting.
If they are as easy to get as the Collection, then it should be an easy platinum. (well, the first one at least is easy to platinum. Even though I haven't gotten it yet.) :p

Just been lazy.

Well, you gotta 100% the game to Platnum. Including beating the game on the hardest difficulty. That alone should give a fair amount of challenge.

Volcompat321
Mar 25, 2010, 06:46 AM
Well, I know that.

I'm sure it would take some time, but it seems easy, compared to online only games. I swear online only games are made to make someone go crazy.

Is God of War 3 harder in difficulty than the God of War Collection?
I hope so. I love the series.
The PSP one was even great!

I beat the first one in under 6 hours. Unfortunately not fast enough to get the under 5 hour trophy.

I didn't play the collection, but assuming it's the same two games as on the PS2, I'd say it varies. For one thing, you have the Golden Fleece from the start, so that helps immensely if you're good at blocking. You don't have awesome magic like Chronos' Rage at your disposal. I've only found two uses for magic so far. A large AoE type attack, and the ability to summon a minion for a few seconds. The AoE is nice, since you're invincible during it, but so far the summon sucks.

The last boss I beat (Playing on Titan mode, by the way. This version it's the hard mode, with the super hard not yet unlocked.) took me roughly 20-30 retries to beat, so I think that either says something about the game, or that I suck balls.

I'm pretty sure it's the same exact two from the PS2.
I hadn't noticed any difference in the first one, and I haven't played the second yet. (beat it on Ps2 though).

Well, I'm glad to hear it's that hard(or you suck balls) because I like a challenge!

There's also a really nice feature where you can turn an object you're pushing by hitting left or right on the right joystick. Gone, are the days of letting go of the box, running to the other side, and messing up the angle, grabbing the wrong side again.

Kratos has always been a dick, but GoW3 brings it to a new level, far beyond the 'badass on a mission' stuff we've seen before. He's such a remorseless asshole that it's impossible to identify with him, and it's actually been taking me out of the game. jJst assume that Kratos will kill every person you speak to, even if there is no discernible reason why he would do so.

It's still fun as hell though...

I hate to admit it, but you're absolutely right. I was honestly surprised he didn't completely gut Hephaestus as soon as he saw him.

But the game itself is as fun as ever.

Even Aphrodite and company?

Because I saw a, uh... documentary on that. And he seemed to be rather "friendly" with them.

And with eachother >_<

Because... you know... that's how it really was in the mythological years.

I'm only a couple hours into the game, so I haven't even encountered Aphrodite yet.

Although, one thing about GoW games that has always bothered me is still present. The bosses are significantly more challenging than the rest of the game. It's not even that the bosses are hard, it's just that it easy to become accustomed to hammering buttons to do awesome crap on the regular minions. You rarely need to block or even plan your attacks. Suddenly, when you run into a boss, that stops working. It should be a little more even.

A friend of mine was on Spring Break this week from college, so we went to go pick up my reserved copies of God of War 3 and Pokemon Soul Silver. Of course, he wanted to borrow God of War 3 from me as soon as I got it (mainly so he wouldn't have to pay for it, lol). I had just started playing FF13, so I was busy with that, and I knew he'd be done with it by the time he had to go back to school, so I went ahead and let him borrow it...

He had 90% trophy completion the day after I lent it to him, with only 2 trophies left for his platinum... which he said he promptly claimed the next day (although I don't think he's synced his trophies since then, so I can't confirm it for sure).

He also got platinums on BOTH games on the collection disc after about half a week's time when I loaned that to him. @_@

I know most of the trophies on those games just involve getting through certain areas or defeating certain bosses, but some of the other ones are just ridiculous. At least you can get them by yourself, unlike games like Little Big Planet (fucking Create trophy) or Tom Clancy's HAWX (fucking Sitting Ducks trophy that I still don't have yet).

I've been having this game since the day it came out and I've yet to pop it in. I don't know why because I loved the first two games. I'll probably play through it on Spring break. damn professors and this idea of "exams"

That basically sums up my experience with the series. I got to a point in God of War II that it asked me if I wanted to put it on easy during one of the boss fights. I felt horrible, but I did it anyway.

That's a trophy!
(I think that's in both 1 and 2 in the Collection)

You then have to beat it within 5 hours. (this is for both too, I think)

It felt really great hearing that little "ding" noise after being so frustrated.

Unfortunately this game contains game design's most unforgivable offense: an escort mission.

But they improved box moving gameplay!

New Age of Heroes begins when the game has no box moving puzzler/platforming and no escorting missions.

Are you talking about the thing with the Poseidon chick? That's not really an escort mission. The enemies focus on you during the fight. I don't think they can even hit her.

Based on your earlier comments, I'm assuming Kratos promptly tears the person he's escorting in half at the end of the mission.

I'm talking about the fight where you are on the moving box and the minotaurs are attacking the chain suspending it. To me, an escort mission is any mission where your objective is to protect something over which you have no control, and is ultimately responsible for your success or failure.

About Poseidon's princess...most egregious use of a naked woman in a video game I've seen in a long time. At least Aphrodite has the background to support it.

Oh, the box thing. It is despicable, but they could of made it a lot worse. You're only fighting two enemies at a time, not including the archers, and you can take them out with your bow while the Minotaurs are spawning.

I just finished. Just a warning, MASSIVE spoilers below. It's about the ending...you were warned.

[spoiler-box]The ending sequence was absolutely terrible. It was almost as bad as the LSD levels from Max Payne. The conclusion itself wasn't so bad I guess, but I think everyone
knew Kratos was going to die. But seriously, running in the dark for 10 minutes...awful, just awful. Zeus went down like a punk too. He was one of the easiest bosses in the whole game. [/spoiler-box]
