Anyone else excited for this Zelda ripoffhomage? I know I am. I know this isn't recent news by any means, but I thought it might deserve it's own thread.

If you haven't heard the word that's not the bird, check it out!

I'm excited for it, except for the factthat it comes out during the third or so wave of awesome games. I really wish it had multiplayer though, I can't help but imagine the awesomeness that it could be.

Hmmm... Multi-player eh?

That does sound cool, given the PS3 does everything but things we can think of.

Like the Four Swords game/whatever? I'd really enjoy that actually. Since the PS3 is so much more online friendly.

This does look good!

The way you were excited was making me think it would be amazing, and it looks like it.

You know how I loved the Zelda games, so this might be exciting. :D

One of the neato factors is that you can custom-make your character block by block to look however you like!

(Guess what hero has been created, recreated, killed, and reanimated so many times already in the JP version)

I'm kind of surprised they aren't getting sued by Nintendo :D Obvious ripoffs aside, it does look kind of cool. Kind of like a Lego Zelda.

3D Dot came out a few days ago. Bought it day one. Gotta say, I'm enjoying it thoroughly.

World map's wide open, music is tasteful, and the game references are pretty funny. All around, this game totally warrants its $40 price tag, and should be bought by anyone with an affinity to classics.

Anyone else enjoying this little homage?

I'm in the final dungeon right now. It's great fun, and has a very nostalgic feel. The throwback game design isn't without its drawbacks. Moving around can be pretty tedious since every dungeon requires huge amounts of backtracking and finding keys. The potential for getting stuck is pretty big too since some old guy deep in a cave you'd have no reason to explore may have an item you need. I think that's part of the charm, but it's interesting to see how far game design has come. Today's games really go out of their way to help the player. Expect none of that here.

EDIT: Just finished the game. They are practically giving this away at $40.

It definitely looks cool. I might pick it up this summer when I've got a PS3 around.

I didn't care for what I saw of this.
Retro for the sake of retro is starting to succeed in becoming retro itself, it feels like.

I don't see the gameplay as being retro for the sake of being retro. The original Zelda gameplay is still a valid and enjoyable design.

The aesthetic and theme are certainly for nostalgia and parody, but this style definitely creates something new that hasn't really been seen in a major game before.

We've all seen Legos before.

*is just sore because it's not multi-platform T_T*

It may be a budget title or quick and easy port, so nothing in the way of user generated anything, eh?

Could really capitalize on that from an already big LBP userbase on that PS3. And such set pieces just dying to be used for sandbox do it yourself, much like the indie games mentioned here in OT before, of course on a less taxing/tutorial/just for console - smaller size scale.

I guess I'm just being spoiled to the idea of the recent attempts of doing more to switch up the concepts of the retro flavor, as with Half-Minute Hero, or What Did I Do To Deserve This, My Lord? (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/What_Did_I_Do_To_Deserve_This,_My_Lord%3F)

Oh well.

I'm definitely getting this game once I get some money saved up (waiting on ModNation Racers first). A friend of mine got it and showed it to me, and it's fucking awesome! He's already made tons of characters too.

Old-school Zelda-like game on the PS3?? Yes, please!

You're buying Mod Nation first?! I can't justify paying full price for a kart racer myself. It'll go on sale soon enough.

The Zelda nods are in greater supply than just the game play. Entire areas and dead-ends to see just one person/thing that just says "It's a Secret" :-P

Double post, but I don't care.

I'm not trying to plug anything, but if anyone wants some copyrighted characters that you can't get from 3D Dot's main site, you can download them directly from this forum:

http://www.thegeorama.com/3ddotgameheroes/viewforum.php?f=12

There's Links galore, and maybe some things you wouldn't expect Kevin Butler!

Here's From Software's own little explanation for making these characters usable :

Enjoy~

I already had $5 down on it at Gamestop, and I've been messing with the track editor on the demo for the past two days, lol. Besides, I could probably borrow 3D Dot Game Heroes from my friend; he usually beats the crap out of those sort of games pretty quick anyway. If not, I probably will end up buying a copy, but I just don't have the money right now. :(
