If you find a special barrier (e.g. Blue Barrier, Red Barrier, Yellow Barrier, Assist Barrier, or Recovery Barrier) you can combine the amplifier with the barrier and make a Merge. Depending on the kind of amplifier, wearing the Merge will boost the spell's strength or distance. If you find an amplifer of Yellow, Red, or Blue, combining that with a barrier will increase the power of all Zonde spells, Foie spells, or Barta spells respectively.

I'm also going to post a thread for all Merge/Amplifer related questions. I've been looking for specific places to get amplifers and barriers - assuming they show up specifically.
