I've looked around everywhere and couldn't find an officially announced release date for the North American release of Phantasy Star: Portable 2. I've seen several places that states September 14th. Is it official?

I'm really surprised you didn't check the Sega's official site.

Gamestop has it listed for the 14 for release as seen on the site, which is correct 80% of the time unless it gets pushed back.

Being a moderator on a forum for a video game developer (Insomniac Games), I learned to not trust any store Website for release dates. :)

the 14th is definitely the date. Some Sega guy mentioned it in gamespot's On the Spot show.

Though the 14th appears to be the release date for North America, the nearest Gamestop in my area doesn't stock copies until the 15th. I went to reserve a copy today, and that's what the man at the counter told me. A friend in New York tells me that the case is the same for their local Gamestop.

That depends on the Publisher's distributor and the store's distribution system.

Also depends on much the store cares. Some stores can get shipments days before the street date, but only "releases" them (read: open the box) a few days after the release date (that happened to me with Zelda: Phantom Hourglass on the NDS - I was only able to get the game three days later, but later found out that they had the shipment in a week before).

I'm in New-Brunswick, Canada - the lost-world of Canuck-Country. I've had games on the release day, I've had games a few days later, and I've had games a day or two early.

Was there an information page documenting all the changes from PSU->PSP2?

I'd love to see a thorough comparison between the two myself, but as far as I know, this is the best we have:
