View Full Version : PSP2 Traps, why are they so good?

Ive seen a lot of discussion on traps and im wondering in high level play why these traps are so good? I originally was going to make a Beast Hunter but after reading a lot it seems like a vanguard can basicly do everything hunter can minus 10 levels of PA, but gets EX traps which are apparently a big deal, and also better EVP.

I havent played much PS since PSO so all of this is new to me, is 10 levels in a PA a big difference? Does the difficulty of finding max level PAs weigh into things? Im assuming the best traps are ones with crowd control that confuse/freeze etc? these are all easily buyable from shops and im assuming the costs become not a factor in high level?

Highest DPS in the game, kills any Enemy in a few seconds... You also get to carry 8 of them.

so would you then agree that a vanguard is superior to a hunter since the hunters only better areas that matter would be higher PAs and slightly higher damage?

Hunters would have a hard time out damaging an EX trap.

Vanguards > Hunters... and yeah, the EX Traps offset the ATP of a Hunter.

hmm, that kinda saddens me though that it seems like there is a "best class". i think i wouldve preferred the class system from PSU

If you plan to mostly group you can just play hunter and drop ex traps on the ground for the vanguard/s in the group, can't imagine many parties would have difficulty getting a single vanguard.

If you're planning to mostly solo, enjoy vanguard.

This is a good strategy for the time based extra mission as well. And people will like you more and think you're a better player if you do this.

Do EX traps add to the chain? They must be crazy OP if they do.

Nope, not anymore.

They were never meant to work that way though.

Bosses must have been a joke then.

From what I've seen about Bruce, I think it's safe to say that the US version is equivalent to the Japanese patched version so the excesive trap damage will not be in the game. That said and done, EX traps are still incredibly powerful. Bosses are a joke even versus the fixed EX traps.

Gah.. I hope they patch that. I'm okay with EX traps being good (IE worth it) but nobody wants something like that to be overpowered..

They should just do away with EX Traps altogether and bring back the standard detonate-albe ones from PSU. Or take away Burst Bomber. Or make them actually weaker like they intended to but actually do it right this time.

Or they did it so right that it was wrong. Unfortunately, though, SEGA isn't well known for that kind of smartness, so instead they broke it.

At around 30-40 chain, if you broke the chain with a PA while a EX Trap was still firing you'd get around 4k-5k DPS...which kills Anastasis, SEED Helga, ANYTHING within seconds.

2 S-Ranked Mirage Blasts don't cut it. Enough said...especially when the leader Dick goes gun-mode.

There are other ways, yeah. Those ways are about 30 times more painful though.

How do you think us Non-Bravers feel against those guys?

No pain no gain.

Wayu

Or just drop EX Traps and simply gain.

Rangers get 4 EX Traps, BTW.

I was a hunter for all the times I've fought Shizuru except one or two. Knuckles work nicely.

I had to go Melee Force against them. Wasn't any fun having to actually guard. Techs are completely useless against them.

Erm, how lol? Shizuru's clones always get in the way...

In Gemaga, I usually just place freeze traps, build a small chain and focus on the two clones.

Guard when they use the charging stab attack, the other attacks they use are pretty slow.
Attack after he attacks, since there is a huge period of recovery after he has attacked on many of his moves.

When he uses gun with the sword buff, I dodge them with movement whenever he fires, since a full volley means insta-kill most of the time.

When it's only main Shizuru, he is pretty easy to deal with. His attacks when he has a sword out all take forever to come out, dagger is a bit more dangerous.
When he uses gun, just stand completely next to him, and almost all the attacks will miss you (bug?).

And he does that multiple hit attack (sword + gun?) that hits about 3 or 4 times, but its pretty easy to perfect guard that. I stopped trying to roll away from it, since it hits so many times, it usually hits you after the invincibility period of the roll is over.
