They intended to make software where a computerized voice can make pitch and sing to user inputted information. They've been japanese exclusively for a while (sans SEGA's addition to Miku clothes)

this is a video of it, it is "able" to sing japanese using voices recorded previously toned to pitch.

An English version i guess would just be an English voice recording done the same way.
So now people can youtubepoop shit with her for however much it costs!

I googled this after I saw Lolitron's original post. She's pretty much an icon over in Japan. Hopefully the English-speaking countries don't follow suite once the program reaches us.

Looks like Hatsune Miku gets a lot (probably too much) of attention for just being an expensive, fancy-pants text-to-voice program. But that's just me. :-?

Meh. You can break anything down to their core components and make them sound simple and unworthy of attention (people put too much stock in these fancy-arse collections of sequenced letters printed on cheap mass-produced paper!).

She gets a lot of attention because she has a pleasing visual design, an unusual voice, and can actually sing. That's beyond "fancy-pants text-to-voice" programming - there's a whole ton of little things that add up to create the impression of a real person who's actually singing.

The best users are more than capable of making her sound completely natural, without any artificial overtones whatsoever.

I am fine with her songs. I like some of her vocals, but my little sister really hated Miku. She says that her voice is squisy and suck. Well, that is her opinion and taste. Miku is not for everyone, me thinky.

Definitely agree. I, myself, find it quite asinine. Though, if others enjoy it, then I haven't any objections.

If it'll make ya feel any better, BIG OLAF, this kind of thing will most likely stay within the circles that want it and extend only to those who are curious of either the program or phenomenon.

Well, Miku herself, anyway. Take her out of the equation for a minute, and you're left with a program that could be potentially useful depending on who gets a hold of it.

That aside, I caught wind of this at a certain NSFW anime/manga/Japanese culture site and was surprised she garnered enough popularity to warrant this.

My immediate thoughts: how exactly are they going to approach the program's creation? Depending on what they decide to do (when they announce it), I can see the reception of the English version of Miku going very well...or very badly.

I am just amazed at the Vocaloid hologram concerts. It looks just like a real person up there; well, from the Youtube videos. I'd love to see them live. As for the actual music...I've heard better. It's pleasing to the ear, nonetheless.

The quality of music created with Vocaloid program really depends on the composer in terms of how they choose to use the program, and how much they are willing to whet their creative muscle. Knowledge of actual singing techniques and music theory helps, too.

IMO, there are only a few great/memorable ones. The majority are range from good to decent. Then there is the noticeable portion that is just bad. Ones that use the Gakupo Vocaloid immediately come to mind, because composers tend to use pitches that are higher than the original model voice (Gackt). The girls such as Miku tend to be easier to work with for most.

Every time I listen to one of her songs, it's always catchy. Would love to get a couple CD's with her or it (whatever).

Last Night, Good Night is my favorite song sung by Hatsune Miku.

But Hatsune is part of ver2 of the Vocaloid series, or something like that. I don't remember the specifics, but the first run of the Vocaloid program had a Japanese, English, and some others (German and Russian I think, but I'm sure I'm wrong).

I'm sure the culmination of all Japanese breakthroughs in science is simply so that they can recreate that Sharon Apple concert sequence in Macross and create the "perfect" idol that never ages. has no personalty, and is completely submissive.

Either way, it's stupid.

Judging from the number of Miku songs that have to deal with identity, humanity (or lack thereof), and love... you couldn't possibly be further off the mark.

So... they'll be re-releasing Sweet Ann with a tweaked voice and a change in box art? Is that really what's in demand here?

If you have any plans to stop them, then you'd better hurry. It won't be long now...

I have no idea what's up with that. I'm actually really surprised they didn't have her moving during that act, since the HRP-4C is fully capable of stepping off stage and shaking hands with the people after the performance. She doesn't need to be tethered or heft a backpack battery like Asimo... and they can't even seem to give her a little hip sway and arm swing?

Damn.

Knew SEGA was going to spend their Sonic profits on this, soon enough. Didn't think people were already building to go sell to SEGA.

Don't think its the SEGA America decision heads, as is the Capcom way seniority/power over Japan, for them to just say no or something either. Double down damn.

Oh God, Uncanny Valley. I'm not sure if it's the eyes or the skin. D8

Well, okay. Not the worst case scenario out there; it's actually fairly decent. I'm not sure if it's even alright to mention what the "worst" is.

But what's up with the scream near the end: "aaaaaarrrhhhh" something like that.

If you're talking about the first song she sang, that was part of the original rendition of that song, I don't know the precise term of what they were aiming for with that scream (obviously I'm not a singer), but here it is for reference. Almost fitting that I put this, given that almost everyone that's familiar with Miku is joking about how global conquest her ultimate goal now *rolls eyes*:

Of all the video examples posted here (like, what, two?), she still sounds like a robot to me. :T

Just sayin'. A Japanese Vampire Princess Robot.

Well...yeah. IMO, composers usually only hit the halfway point in making her sound completely and naturally human. I think most people who listen to Miku frequently are either willing to look past the limitations of the Vocaloid Series 2 program or just don't care; the songs that we put up are probably some of the more well known ones composed with the Miku voice.

Artists that fail to make her sound human are just doin' it wrong. :p

Livetune really does an impressive job on that front. 'Nother example:

There is also a dance music video program, that lets you take a 3d model of Miku, or anyone of the other actresses, and then spit out a great music video. The software uses inverse kinematics (IK) & is about as far advanced as some of the recent 3D Studio Max programs (they cost $900 & up). Not bad for someone who doesn't even exist.
