Alternative to the DS WiFi USB Adapter for PSzero?

What alternative is there to this for someone that has an Ethernet connection but doesn't have WiFi? I am not a networking expert, so I thought I'd ask someone who is.

Since this turns any computer (even a desktop) into a WiFi Hotspot, as thought it was directly connected to the Internet and sending its own signal like a WiFi router, that's what I need. Something that does the same on a laptop.

This explains how the process works....i just need an alternative. The Nintendo-made one has hardware issues & will not work in Win 7 without fuddling around with settings/Admin mode.

you can just connect straight to your wireless router.... if you havn't tried that yet

I have this same problem, except i have a router and its just not compatible with my DS. what im trying to do is find somewhere locally that has free wifi where i can play. that is if I ever get around to acctualy going out and looking ^^;

When I lived in the city, I used to be able to pick up on wifi all the time to play online. But after moving to the country in southside VA, I cant pick up on anything. I'm working on changing that though.

OK, I have an important question and thank you for reminding me, MAXrobo. Does Nintendo have a webpage on their site that says which routers are compatible with the DS? I will look, but maybe someone knows? Of course I can guess that if a router has no encryption it should work out of the box. When routers were only up to Wireless G (N is now the standard) it was a lot less complicated.

EDIT: When i find the link, or maybe i'll harass Nintendo by email, I shall post here.

My router is not compatable becauses it is wireless N i think.

The security is usually the problem. Any game on the nintendo network, will not run on a WPA encryption. If you have a WEP encryption or no security, you should be okay.

Seems the logins are usually from http://192.168.1.1 and admin/password or something like that. Hopefully i don't run into any WPA routers & only WEP.

Im sorry max I don't If you check the dealextreme website they have a bunch of gadgets including those USB dongles to connect your ds through a laptop or computer. There is also a chinese website called Price Angels you might want to check there as well they sell cheapy gadgets as well

I'd be careful about buying things from dealextreme. They are known to sell crap that doesn't work correctly and is cheaply made.

Ive been buying from dealextreme for a few years and with the exception of 1 item I bought which was an android tablet I have been very happy. They switched out the tablet they sent me and are sending me a new one. This just happened recently. Plus for 17 dollars its not a huge loss. Terrible if it happens to be garbage but it wont sting so bad. The android tablet I bought though I must admit is very poorly made and it was 100 dollars

I ran into this same problem when my wifi adapter died in an accident, so I'm waiting for official android 2.2 to go on my O2 Streak so I can turn it into a hotspot through my wifi, since I saw a vid of someone playing DS online using that google smartphone.
