I've played a lot of PSO in my day, and I figured I would make my first post conducive to entertaining discussion while at the same time revealing myself to be a huge nerd.

So, what would you make the background music for each stage? Here're some of my picks—I haven't chosen for all of them yet.

Forest 1: Polovtsian Dances (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polovtsian_Dances) from Alexander Borodin's opera Prince Igor.
The mood of the piece seems to match the superficial appearance of the first stage—it's peaceful, but with some action.

Forest 2: Boléro (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boléro) by Maurice Ravel.
This fits well with the rain of the second stage. Ravel's vision of the piece, an open-air setting near a factory, also corresponds with the second stage's juxtaposition of the forest and the modernity of the Central Dome.

Mines: Ballet Mécanique (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ballet_Mécanique), by George Antheil.
This 1924 composition is scored for player pianos, propellers, sirens, and more, so it's a natural for a mine populated by robots.

Ruins: Piano Sonata No. 2 in E minor (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piano_Sonata_No._2_(Shostakovich)), by Dmitri Shostakovich.
The dark, malevolent finale movement, which is said to have been inspired by reports of Nazis forcing Jews to dance before they die, fits this stage very well.

VR Spaceship: The Planets (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Planets), by Gustav Holst.
Fairly self-explanatory. It's in space, so a suite about the planets of the Solar System is perfect.
Here's the movement "Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity".

No one's interested? Oh well, I have some more anyway.

After defeating Dark Falz (not exactly a stage, granted): Pavane pour une infante défunte (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pavane_pour_une_infante_défunte) ("Pavane for a dead princess") by Maurice Ravel. The title should say it all.

Well, I've posted videos in case you don't know the pieces. Will someone play along now?

Please do not multipost like that. The PSO forums don't get as much activity as they used to, but people do post in them still. Just give it time, I am sure someone will post what they listen to soon enough.

As for myself, I love the PSO music as-is, and don't really listen to other music instead.

I enjoy the PSO music, however after playing it on DC, GC and now PSOBB I can't really stand to listen to it anymore. I have PSOBB in windowed mode and watch a TV show on the other half of my screen, been doing that with gaming for years. it's quite fun but with the amount I play PSO I get through series like a madman. In less than a week i've watched 5 out of 7 series of malcolm In the Middle oO

Caves: Hebrides Overture ("Fingal's Cave") by Felix Mendelssohn
Mendelssohn wrote this after visiting Fingal's Cave on Staffa, in the Hebrides archipelago. It is intended to create feelings of solitude and isolation, which fits well with the caves.

... interesting posts.

I like your choice in music, especially your pick for after Dark Falz, but I wouldn't change any of it. Personally, ever since PSODC, the BGM just kinda grew on me.

I put Live and Learn from SA2 for Falz's final form.

Battle with Olga Flow: Totentanz (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Totentanz_(Liszt)), by Franz Liszt.
Just listen to it and you'll see why.

Love the music as is and I've never really wanted to change it, but I might be willing to switch it out for a few castlevania tunes. Bloody Tears in the Ruins? Hell yeah!

Burning Rangers on infinite repeat.

That's how PSO's meant to be played. :D
