This definitely needed its own topic.

GameGuard is shit. SEGA is lazy, though, so get used to seeing it.

But gameguard is full of rainbows and fun!

With an increased risk of contracting AIDS.

Gameguard is that the condom that has holes so that your wang can breathe? Or the Anti-Hacking shield, that has holes so that your wang can breath...

Holes?
In my PSO2?

It is more likely than you think.

I second this notion. Gameguard has been almost nothing short of headaches, glitches, and failures over the years.

And please, PLEASE, make it so that the game doesn't crash as soon as we get an administrator permission window or the like...

Game Guard is like the ultimate memory hogger.

It's the reason why I get SLOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWDOWNNNNNNN on PSU.

Yet without it, the slowdown is gone.

I don't think there's anything better than GameGuard.

I don't think there's anything better than GameGuard.

Its called a dumb-terminal client. If every single decision on anything is made server-side, then there's no real need for a client-side program, because the client can't change anything. I mean, sure, they might be able to change what things look like on their end, but if the server rates the client as 0% trustworthy (except for button input), there's no way they can tamper with stuff without directly accessing the server. Which is a felony, as I recall, so that alone should be enough deterrent (assuming some modicum of common sense on the server's protection, anyways)

Basically, if the server tracks their drops, their inventory, and even where in their inventory their cursor is, then SEGA only has to rule out exploitable bugs, which Game Guard is useless against anyways.

Obviously, doing it this way leads to somewhat increased server loads.

what is gameguard?

A miserable little pile of rootkits.

what does it do?It does all kinds of things. The one thing it doesn't do, however, is the one thing it is supposed to do, which is preventing hacking.

It GUARDS your GAMES with its ANTI-HACK SHIELD/--

It's more of a nuisance though. It's usually the first thing broken/removed when it comes to hackers. Doesn't thwart much.

Tends to have problems with people's antivirus programs and also tends to cause other misc. problems which leads to the game not running at all.
