If the lock out sticks, sure They'll go all the way. To the unemployment line, that is.

i can sense something like that happening. like a 9-7 record. by the look of the sched. compared to last years with a 5-11

LOL! Only thing that team is gonna win this year is Peyton Hillis being on the cover of Madden 12. (damn the Broncos for trading him away for Brady F'n Quinn) You're the Cleveland Browns! They'll somehow pull out a yet another losing season, but I guess this time of year its good to be optimistic. As for my Broncos.....as long as Tebow is there we are gutter trash. 5-11 at best for my team

To be fair, they get a second phenominal running back this year in Montario Hardesty. They drafted him last year, but he didn't play due to a torn ACL during the pre-season. He was one of the best running backs in all of college football during his senior year.

The Titans got a badly needed quarterback. I just hope they don't accidentally run him into the ground while trying to get him broken in.

For My team " THE JAGUARS"
Before, it had only been words. Critical words, from the owner and the coach, but words nonetheless.

Now the Jaguars have taken their dissatisfaction with QB David Garrard to the next level.

By making Missouri’s Blaine Gabbert the 10th overall pick of the draft — and moving up six spots in a trade with the Redskins to do it — the Jaguars made it as clear as possible that Garrard’s days as the starter are nearing an end.

The last quarterback the Jaguars drafted in the first round was Byron Leftwich, seventh overall, in 2003.

Gabbert was widely seen as the second-best quarterback in the draft, after Cam Newton. Gabbert and Newton also were widely considered the only two quarterbacks in the draft deserving of a first-round grade.

With Gabbert, the Jaguars might have the quarterback who’s the most ready to step into the starting lineup sooner rather than later.

It seems that the Jaguars have decided they have gone as far as they can with Garrard, who at his best has been efficient but never shown he can be a consistent difference-maker despite signing a seven-year, $60 million contract in 2008.

Soon, it will be Gabbert’s turn to demonstrate that he can be that kind of quarterback for Jacksonville.

The Titans got a badly needed quarterback. I just hope they don't accidentally run him into the ground while trying to get him broken in.

I didn't think they were gonna go after Locker so early, that was bold on their part. But if they didn't the Vikes were going to take him or the skins so I'm not mad a them. Great pick up, Lockers work ethic is on the one, and he'll definitely help win games... Especially with Chris Johnson? The Titans are gonna be way more of a threat.

The Titans are a threat?. lol. to my team they are. since they are both in the AFC south. and to the other AFC south teams...

we will see which rookie Quarter back does good in the future in the AFC South.

this is almost exactly what happen in 2003 in the AFC south when Byron LeftWitch (NFL Draft: 2003 / Round: 1 / Pick: 7) and David Carr Started 1st started as QB except Carr was drafted in 2002/NFL Draft: 2002 / Round: 1 / Pick: 1.

now it's like a new era. but of course they wont start them right away.

When the Jags got Gabbert my mouth flew open. I was like WHAT??? But I don't blame them, Blaine can sit while Gerrard, who isn't to bad can make a play-off run. But in the AFC south... That's tough. But nonetheless it's a good investment. Let me rephrase that... The titans are better on offense than they were a year ago. I think that makes me sound a bit more sane LOL

same here. i didn't expect they would get Gabbert. thought they would get a Deffense. but when the draft was about to start on my mind was a QB on their mind was deffense. but then when i saw the head line news at the bottom of the screen says "Jags need a QB" during the draft. im guessing that they might pick him or another one. until they traded Washington and gave up their second round for the 10th spot to get Gabbert.

But yes. i dont blame them either for getting Gabbert same with the fans at home. they are actually happy compared to last years draft. which Jags fane including myself wanted Tim Tebow
1, becuase he's Top three QB's
2. He's Orginally From Jacksonville
3. after playing the last games in Denver 2011 season he got better!!
But yes Blain can sit while Garrard will start becuase David is still a good QB and Last year David in one of the games against the cowboys was nearly perfect. just that game though which He completed 17 of 21 passes for 260 yards and four touchdowns. He also scored a rushing touchdown on a quarterback keeper. His passer rating for the game was a dazzling 158.3. and some other game he does poor and ok. with Blain Gabbert i'm thinking he might be like Arron Rodgers. Who sat for like 3 years with out starting and then play and progress his way. and then you might not know. win a super bowl like what arron rodgers did!. unless Garrard gets injured that will be a differ story.
back in the 2003 Season when MArk Brunell injured his Throwing arm in the middle of the season Leftwitch took over and stayed as QB for 4 years and then after that he started to not do good and Garrard took over. and now that garrard is getting at that age. which he is age 33. and his 1st team is still the Jagaurs.
but we will see what happens when the season starts.

and you're right Titans are better on offense than they were a year ago. i rmember that one season in 2008 when they were 13-3! and i rmember long time ago. back in 1999-2000 the Titans Defeated the jags with 2 losses and the Jags had a record of 14-2 and lost the Div playoffs by the Titans and the Titans went to the Super bowl agaisnt the Rams.

The Ravens are Super Bowl bound this season. With their acquisitions from the draft they have improved greatly on offense, and their iconic defense has gotten better in the secondary. They have been close, making it to the AFC Championship 3 seasons ago and the divisional round the previous two (They were a Wild Card team in all of those seasons). Hopefully the conflicting interests between the NFL owners and players doesn't effect the season because I see the Ravens doing great things this season.

Leiweke has talked with Vikes, Chargers, Raiders, Rams, Jags

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000d5d820425a4/article/leiweke-has-talked-with-vikes-chargers-raiders-rams-jags?module=HP_headlines

LOS ANGELES -- The head of the sports and entertainment company that wants to build an NFL stadium in downtown Los Angeles said he's been in talks with officials from five pro football teams about moving to the proposed venue, a company official said Friday.

Anschutz Entertainment Group President and CEO Tim Leiweke has spoken with representatives from the Minnesota Vikings, San Diego Chargers, Oakland Raiders, St. Louis Rams and Jacksonville Jaguars, company spokesman Michael Roth told The Associated Press.

Leiweke said all those teams are "in the mix," but conceded, "We're not packing any (moving) vans right now," according to the Orange County Register, which was first to report on the talks.

The most recent discussion took place a week ago, said Leiweke, who didn't specify which team those talks were with.

especially hear my team in it. becuase of the tickets no being sold with the black outs. and that's why they covered the seats. well last year they didnt have any back outs because they actually did good. but i doubt they will move. same with St Lous Rams. from what i am hearing on NFL Network. it most like might be the Chargers since they are closer and also have black outs and not selling tickets. 2nd is the Vikes becuase of their Stadium. but i heard here and there donations to fix their stadium.

it's going to be weird hearing a tema name with a diffrent city... except the rams since they have been in it.
Los Angeles Chargers Los Angeles Jaguars , Los Angeles Vikings...uhg...

"with the Vikings' lease set to expire at the end of the 2011 season, and the caved-in roof currently under repair at the Metrodome, eyebrows were raised when the two sides were spotted together at a downtown Minneapolis hotel. That said, the NFL would badly like to keep the Vikings in the Twin Cities, a market with a disproportionate number of wealth and corporate headquarters for its middling size.

The Jaguars have long been viewed as a favorite to flee, since Jacksonville hasn't grown in the way the NFL once envisioned, but their lease -- which runs through 2030 -- will be difficult to get out of. The Rams' lease has an out in 2015, if the Edward Jones Dome isn't replaced or brought up to a state-of-the-art level. The idea of the Chargers and Raiders moving has validity, but the state of California might not be as cooperative if it's simply moving a business rather than adding one. The Raiders came out in response to being mentioned among the teams that have talked with AEG, with CEO Amy Trask saying the "team is not for sale."

Same, this whole thing ticked me off... Plus it made me see how poorly prioritized my life was and gave me time to think. LOL But now that I think about the whole thing, in my humble opinion this lock out was nothing but a marketing scheme, like holding a bone away from a dog and then putting it in front of his nose, then snatching it back. I was really excited when the Ravens drafted him. He will be able to stretch the field on offense, which is something that they have not been able to do even though there are some really talented receivers on the roster. Haha I would think that more Philly fans would riot if the Phillies don't win the WS this year. After they traded for Pence (sad to see him go as a Astros fan) that lineup is now stacked! That being said though I think Philly fans do have reason to think lofty as far as both teams winning titles. No trust me, it would be worse if the Eagles didn't. People blame the phillies' rising age as reasons for our offensive production dropping, and the fact that other teams know not to throw them fastballs now. We want them to win, but they aren't disappointing really. The Eagles, on the other hand, have disappointed us many, many times. With the team we have now and all the hype about it, anything less than a Super Bowl would cause mayhem. That said, the phillies shouldn't really lose with their rotation either. The only question is if player(s) get hot at the right time or not. Last year the entire team was basically slumping throughout the playoffs.

Even with the signing of Aso (and some others) I still feel like some of the better teams to beat are still on the AFC side and also we can't forget about the Packers. Hell they basically have the same team and they get 2 explosive starters back on offensive this season.

While David Garrard is expected to make the trip to the preseason opener, Jaguars Head Coach Jack Del Rio said Tuesday Garrard – the team’s starting quarterback since 2007 – almost certainly will not play because of a back injury.

That means the start will go to Gabbert, the No. 10 overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft.

“It’s going to be fun,” Gabbert said Tuesday as the Jaguars prepared for the 2011 preseason opener against the New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Mass., Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

Yeah I think the hype could end up being the death of the Eagles this year. Even with the signing of Aso (and some others) I still feel like some of the better teams to beat are still on the AFC side and also we can't forget about the Packers. Hell they basically have the same team and they get 2 explosive starters back on offensive this season.
I have to disagree with this, as a philly fan I think they wit make it very far if not to the superbowl, if they keep Asante (which is becoming likely now) they will have the best secondary in the league. A very explosive offence now that Jackson has ended his holdout, they are good on both sides of the ball, and as far as AFC teams go, I would love to see Tom brady, Peyton Manning ect. pass on they hard, cuz I don't think they will have much success.

I'm so glad that football games will start to be played today. As a Ravens fan, I'm really glad that they get to start off the preseason with a game with the Eagles. Its a good way for them to see how well they will do against the best teams (on paper;-)) in the league.

I think that this preseason will be more competative than previous ones due to the fact that players did not have as much time in the offseason to work with the team as a whole, so I think players will have to play more aggressively to show their coaches that they deserve to be a part of their team.

RECAP FROM LAST NIGHTS GAMES

[SPOILER-BOX]Gabbert inconsistent at best in Jaguars' debut
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- Blaine Gabbert had an inconsistent NFL debut and his Jacksonville Jaguars teammates didn't do any better as the New England Patriots won 47-12 in an exhibition opener on Thursday night.
Playing against mostly backups as top players for both teams sat out the game, the Jaguars scored three field goals on Gabbert's six possessions. The 10th pick of the draft from Missouri completed nine of 16 passes for 85 yards. He played the entire first half with starting quarterback David Garrard unavailable with a back injury.
Another rookie quarterback, third-rounder Ryan Mallett of the Patriots, did better. The former Arkansas standout played the whole second half and drove the Patriots to touchdowns on his first four series, helping to turn a 19-9 halftime lead into a 35-point rout.

Vick shines in cameo
PHILADELPHIA -- Michael Vick picked up where he left off last year and then quickly took a safe seat on the sideline.
Vick threw for 74 yards and a touchdown pass in his only series and the new-look Philadelphia Eagles beat the Baltimore Ravens 13-6 Thursday night in their preseason opener.
Nnamdi Asomugha, Vince Young and several other big-name acquisitions made their debuts for the Eagles, who've signed a slew of free agents with impressive resumes in the past two weeks.

Bolts start strong, but allow 'Hawks to claim win
SAN DIEGO -- The Seattle Seahawks can only hope Tarvaris Jackson someday runs their offense as smoothly as Philip Rivers controls the San Diego Chargers.
Rivers went 5 for 6 while leading an 89-yard scoring in his only series for the Chargers, but Thomas Clayton rushed for a tiebreaking 25-yard touchdown with 3:05 left in the Seahawks' 24-17 victory over San Diego on Thursday night in both clubs' exhibition opener.

Tebow solid, but McGee plays hero in Dallas
ARLINGTON, Texas -- Tim Tebow showed off his fancy moves on a wild play that didn't even count.
Tebow's failed scramble just before halftime stood as the play of the game, until Stephen McGee -- another option quarterback in college -- ran around to throw a 13-yard touchdown pass and a two-point conversion with 15 seconds left, giving the Dallas Cowboys a 24-23 victory over the Denver Broncos in a preseason opener.

Kolb goes scoreless in steady Cardinals' debut
OAKLAND, Calif. -- Kevin Kolb found new favorite target Larry Fitzgerald twice in his Arizona debut but was unable to get his offense on the scoreboard in two drives before the Cardinals rallied to beat the Oakland Raiders 24-18 in their exhibition opener Thursday night.
Arizona's other three quarterbacks all threw touchdown passes, including a 28-yarder from Max Hall to Isaiah Williams with 39 seconds left for the win.
Raiders third-stringer Trent Edwards threw an 18-yard touchdown pass to rookie David Ausberry, and Sebastian Janikowski kicked four field goals, including a go-ahead 57-yarder with 2:32 to play, but the Raiders lost in Hue Jackson's head coaching debut.

As an A&M guy it was nice to see McGee do well. Tebow doing alright isn't gonna help him really right now, but if Orton slips in the next couple games this QB Contro could become an even larger issue. Overall I'm more interested in how the D improves after they were so awful last year.

Well the first thing the lockout has seriously effected is the timing of offenses it seems. I have noticed that only the teams that did multiple team led player workouts during the lockout. But its been interesting to see the young players thrown into the fire during the preseason. Its going to be a interesting season.

Recap from Thurs and Fridays game
[SPOILER-BOX]Garrard, Gabbert flat in Jags' win over Falcons
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Jacksonville's quarterback competition turned out to be a stalemate against Atlanta.
David Garrard did little to solidify his starting spot and rookie Blaine Gabbert was equally unimpressive as the Jaguars beat the Falcons 15-13 Friday night.
Garrard completed 7 of 12 passes for 99 yards, with an interception in three series. Gabbert, the 10th overall pick in April's draft, completed 11 of 23 passes for 96 yards in seven series. Gabbert was plagued by several drops, including three on one second-half series that forced the Jaguars to settle for a 54-yard field goal.
Matt Ryan's receiving corps had similar issues, but Harry Douglas turned a short crossing route into a 76-yard touchdown in the second quarter. Ryan finished 7 of 15 for 116 yards.

__

Dolphins shut out Panthers in Newton's first start
MIAMI -- Cam Newton threw a Hail Mary pass that fell incomplete on the final play of the first half Friday night, and that's the closest he came to reaching the end zone.
The top pick of the 2011 NFL Draft was shut out in his first preseason start, and Newton's Carolina Panthers lost to the Miami Dolphins, 20-10.
Newton played the entire first half, when the Panthers managed only three first downs, held the ball for less than eight minutes and fell behind 17-0. Newton went 7 for 14 for 66 yards, and he ran four times for 18 yards.

__

Rodgers sharp as Packers beat Kolb's Cardinals
GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Aaron Rodgers topped off a sharp performance with a 20-yard touchdown pass to Greg Jennings and the Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers beat the Arizona Cardinals 28-20 in a preseason game on Friday night.
Rodgers played into the second quarter, completing nine of 12 passes for 97 yards and the touchdown. Matt Flynn took over for Rodgers and led the Packers to another touchdown before halftime, a two-yard run by rookie Alex Green.
It was a rough night for Cardinals rookie running back Ryan Williams, who was carted off the field after a right knee injury early in the third quarter. Cardinals quarterback Kevin Kolb was six of 11 for 80 yards but the rest of the Cardinals offense didn't look ready for the regular season.

__

McCoy, Stafford sharp as Lions edge Browns
CLEVELAND -- Colt McCoy threw three touchdown passes -- two to tight end Evan Moore -- in the first half, but the Cleveland Browns blew a 15-point lead after halftime and lost 30-28 to the Detroit Lions on Friday night in a penalty-filled preseason game that showed both teams have plenty to fix in the next three weeks.
McCoy finished 10 of 18 for 96 yards, his second straight solid performance running first-year Browns coach Pat Shurmur's new West Coast offense. McCoy was victimized by a few drops and wasn't as sharp as in last week's preseason opener. However, the second-year QB showed poise and didn't force any throws while playing most of the first half.
The Lions (2-0) trailed by 10 entering the fourth, but got a 20-yard TD pass from Drew Stanton and Dave Rayner's 48-yard field goal.
Detroit quarterback Matthew Stafford threw one TD pass to Nate Burleson. Stafford went 6 of 10 for 85 yards in four series for the Lions, who rested several starters because of injuries, including wide receiver Calvin Johnson.

__

Ravens sprint past Chiefs in second half
BALTIMORE -- The Kansas City Chiefs and Baltimore Ravens both ended their preseason touchdown droughts Friday night.
Now, only Kansas City is searching for a victory.
Backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor directed two fourth-quarter touchdown drives, the first ending with Jalen Parmele's go-ahead 10-yard touchdown run with 7:16 remaining, and the Ravens rallied for a 31-13 victory over the winless Chiefs.
Taylor later added a 5-yard TD run of his own, a dive to the right pylon that withstood a video review. He finished 5 for 11 for 88 yards.
__

Beck leads dominant Redskins performance
INDIANAPOLIS -- John Beck led Washington to scores on its first four possessions, and the Redskins used a dominant first half to beat the Indianapolis Colts 16-3 on Friday night.
Beck made a strong statement in his bid to be Washington's starting quarterback by going 14 of 17 for 140 yards with no interceptions. Tim Hightower scored the game's only TD on a 1-yard run. Beck also set up Graham Gano for field goals of 28, 27 and 26 yards as the Redskins took a 16-0 lead late in the first half.
Rex Grossman, in competition with Beck for the starting job, was 7 of 13 for 88 yards with one interception in the second half.

__

Roethlisberger sharp, Vick no so much in rout
PITTSBURGH -- Ben Roethlisberger completed eight of 12 passes for 125 yards and a pair of touchdowns as the Pittsburgh Steelers cruised by the Philadelphia Eagles 24-14 on Thursday night.
Roethlisberger directed the defending AFC champions to touchdowns on both drives he played, hitting Antonio Brown for a 29-yard score in the first quarter and veteran Hines Ward on a 20-yard strike in the second.
Philadelphia quarterback Michael Vick started the day clarifying comments he made in a GQ magazine article in which he suggested NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell convinced him to sign with the Eagles as a backup two years ago rather than compete for a starting job elsewhere.
His night wasn't any better.

__

Brady dazzles in preseason debut
TAMPA, Fla. -- Tom Brady looks to be in regular season form after tossing a pair of touchdown passes in the New England Patriots' 31-14 preseason win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday night.
Patriots coach Bill Belichick called this a big week for roster spot and position battles, and his team got the message.
Projected starting running back BenJarvus Green-Ellis ran for two touchdowns, and the Patriots' defense sacked Josh Freeman twice to stifle an offense that couldn't get going after being slowed by several early penalties.
New England has beaten Tampa Bay in the preseason only twice in nine meetings.[/SPOILER-BOX]

Recap from Thurs, Friday and Sat. game 8/18-8/20

[SPOILER-BOX]Newton steps back, Dalton forward in Bengals win
CINCINNATI -- Cincinnati rookie quarterback Andy Dalton led four first-half scoring drives while overall No. 1 draft pick Cam Newton of the Carolina Panthers struggled in the Bengals' 24-13 preseason victory Thursday night.
Dalton, Cincinnati's second-round pick from Texas Christian, was 11 of 17 for 130 yards and a touchdown, putting together a 107.5 quarterback rating. He didn't play in the second half.
Cedric Benson and Bernard Scott ran for Cincinnati touchdowns.
Newton, the Heisman Trophy winner for national champion Auburn, went three of 12 for 43 yards in the first half. That was two yards more than he rushed for in the half, including a 16-yard touchdown scramble. He played the first three series of the third quarter and finished six of 19 for 75 yards.

__

Vick rebounds from poor game vs. Steelers
PHILADELPHIA -- Michael Vick led three scoring drives, the first-team defense pitched a shutout and the Philadelphia Eagles beat the Cleveland Browns 24-14 in a preseason game on a rain-soaked Thursday night.
Vick took a lot of hits and had to escape trouble quite a bit. Still, he managed to complete 10 of 18 passes for 98 yards. He ran for 24 yards and a touchdown.
Against defending AFC champion Pittsburgh last week, Vick threw three interceptions in the first half and the starting defense allowed touchdowns on the first two drives.
Colt McCoy and the rest of Cleveland's starting offense hardly looked like the crew that scored five touchdowns on nine possessions in the first two preseason games. The Browns punted four times, missed a field goal and McCoy threw an interception on six first-half drives.

__

Ravens rally to win after 'Skins' QBs duel
BALTIMORE -- Rex Grossman and John Beck each threw a touchdown pass in their duel to become the starting quarterback for the Washington Redskins, who lost to the Baltimore Ravens 34-31 in a preseason game on Thursday night.
Tyrod Taylor threw a nine-yard touchdown pass to Brandon Jones with 22 seconds left for the Ravens (2-1), a score set up by LaQuan Williams' 38-yard punt return.
Grossman started for the Redskins (2-1), and each quarterback alternatingly played two series before third-stringer Kellen Clemens entered in the fourth quarter.
Grossman went eight for 15 for 112 yards, directed an 80-yard scoring drive and finished with a quarterback rating of 99.9.
Beck completed six of 10 passes for 108 yards with an interception for a 90.8 rating. He guided Washington on a 97-yard march against Baltimore's second-string defense for a 28-21 lead in the third quarter.

__
Packers use late flurry to edge Colts
INDIANAPOLIS -- Graham Harrell led Green Bay to 11 points in the final 35 seconds, rallying the defending Super Bowl champions to a 24-21 victory over Indianapolis on Friday night.
Harrell threw an 11-yard touchdown pass to Ryan Taylor with 35 seconds left, then hooked up with Taylor again on the two-point conversion to make it 21-21. After the Packers recovered an onside kick, Harrell set up Mason Crosby for a 50-yard field goal as time expired.
Colts backup Curtis Painter also played well, going 11 of 21 for 171 yards.
Super Bowl MVP Aaron Rodgers was in midseason form, going 19 of 23 for 204 yards with one touchdown to give Green Bay a 10-0 second-quarter lead.

__

Bradford sharp as Rams hold off Chiefs
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Sam Bradford led the St. Louis Rams to a pair of touchdowns, and their defense made life miserable for Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassel in a 14-10 preseason victory Friday night.
Bradford was eight of eight for 76 yards on his first two series, with scoring passes of six yards to Mike Sims-Walker and 11 yards to rookie tight end Lance Kendricks. Bradford finished with 95 yards passing in his most significant dress rehearsal before the Rams' opener against Philadelphia.
When the reigning NFL offensive rookie of the year wasn't slicing up the Chiefs' struggling defense, Steven Jackson was pounding it into submission. The big running back carried 15 times for 72 yards as St. Louis coach Steve Spagnuolo played his starters the entire first half.

__

Bills outlast Jaguars in rare preseason OT game
ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- Rian Lindell hit a 40-yard field goal with 3:04 left in overtime to lift the Buffalo Bills to a 35-32 preseason victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars in a game that lasted nearly 4 hours Saturday night.
Lindell's kick came after Jacksonville's Josh Scobee missed a 53-yard attempt.
It was a back-and-forth game in which Buffalo squandered a 17-point first-half lead and had to overcome a 15-point second-half deficit.
With much of the crowd gone by halftime, Tyler Thigpen forced overtime by hitting Paul Hubbard on a 4-yard touchdown pass with 38 seconds left, then hooking up again for a two-point conversion.
Jacksonville dropped to 1-2 this preseason, the same record as Buffalo.\

__

Brown provides highlights as Steelers cruise
PITTSBURGH -- Wide receiver Antonio Brown continued his electrifying preseason, catching four passes for 137 yards and two touchdowns as the Steelers beat the Atlanta Falcons 34-16 on Saturday night.
Brown scored on passes of 77 and 44 yards from quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and set up another touchdown with a lengthy kickoff return as Pittsburgh's starters looked sharp for the second consecutive week.
Roethlisberger finished 11-of-16 passing for 214 yards and the two TDs in one half.
Atlanta quarterback Matt Ryan squeezed an entire game's worth of action into two quarters, completing 22 of 42 passes for 210 yards and one touchdown with one interception against a banged-up Pittsburgh secondary that was missing starting cornerbacks Bryant McFadden and Ike Taylor.

__

Late Buccaneers TD drive foils Dolphins
TAMPA, Fla. -- Rudy Carpenter threw a 7-yard touchdown pass to Nathan Overbay with 3:11 remaining, giving the Tampa Bay Buccaneers a 17-13 preseason victory over the Miami Dolphins on Saturday night.
Josh Freeman directed a TD drive just before the half to finish on a positive note, and Connor Barth kicked a 28-yard field goal for the Bucs. Tampa Bay overcame 15 penalties in a performance not nearly as crisp as it had hoped for coming off last week's sloppy, lopsided loss to the New England Patriots.
Brandon Marshall scored on a 60-yard pass from Chad Henne, and Dan Carpenter kicked field goals of 21 and 47 yards for the Dolphins, who were penalized 11 times themselves.

__

Stafford outplays Brady to lead Lions' romp
DETROIT -- Matthew Stafford threw for 200 yards and two touchdowns in less than a half, leading the Lions to a 34-10 preseason victory over the New England Patriots on Saturday night.
Patriots quarterback Tom Brady struggled, connecting on 12 of 22 passes for 145 yards and one touchdown with one interception.
The Lions and their sellout crowd at Ford Field clearly were fired up for the nationally televised game against the elite Patriots.
Stafford and Detroit's defensive front were impressive in the third preseason game, one that both teams treated like a real game for much of the first half.
But the Lions know they can't get too excited about preseason results because they were undefeated in the 2008 preseason and went on to become the NFL's first 0-16 team.

__

Sensabaugh, Romo push Cowboys past Vikings
MINNEAPOLIS -- Gerald Sensabaugh had an interception and a hand in a special-teams touchdown, Tony Romo connected often with Dez Bryant, and the Dallas Cowboys beat the Minnesota Vikings 23-17 in a preseason game Saturday night.
Testing out the new turf under the replaced roof at the Metrodome in the first game there since a snowstorm last December severely damaged the 29-year-old stadium, Donovan McNabb and the rest of Minnesota's offensive starters were sharp.

__

Schaub shakes off first-pass INT, steers Texans
SAN FRANCISCO -- Matt Schaub recovered after throwing an interception on the first play of the game, leading the Houston Texans on scoring drives in each of their next three series in a 30-7 preseason rout of the rebuilding 49ers on Saturday night.
Troy Nolan made two interceptions for new Houston defensive coordinator Wade Phillips, returning the first pick 73 yards for a touchdown to give the Texans 24 consecutive first-half points after they fell behind 7-0.
Schaub enhanced an already impressive preseason, going 16-of-24 passing for 180 yards and one touchdown for the unbeaten Texans (3-0). So far, they look very much like AFC contenders.
Niners quarterback Alex Smith wound up 2-of-6 passing for 17 yards, just 4 more in the air than he lost in two sacks.

__

Titans use turnovers to rally past Bears
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Seventh-round draft pick Tommie Campbell returned an interception 90 yards for a touchdown, and the Tennessee Titans rallied to beat the Chicago Bears 14-13 in a preseason game Saturday night.
Tennessee had trouble stopping Chicago as the Bears outgained the Titans 416-220 in total yards. But the Titans came up with two interceptions, as Campbell, a cornerback from Division II California (Pa.), picked off Caleb Hanie's pass late in the third quarter and ran up the left sideline untouched to put Tennessee ahead to stay.
Chicago quarterback Jay Cutler played one series into the third quarter and was 13-of-21 passing for 170 yards, with his one interception coming on the opening drive. Matt Forte ran 17 times for 74 yards and one touchdown, but fellow running back Marion Barber hurt his calf early and didn't return.

__

Tebow's scramble leads to Broncos' winning kick
DENVER -- Kyle Orton led the Broncos back from a shaky start with two touchdown drives, and the defense throttled Tarvaris Jackson in a 23-20 preseason victory over the Seattle Seahawks on Saturday night.
Jeff Reed tied the score at 20 with a 53-yard field goal with 1:16 left in regulation, but Tim Tebow had a 19-yard scramble in leading the Broncos downfield for Steven Hauschka's 51-yarder as time expired.
The Broncos (2-1) sacked Jackson five times, with Von Miller getting two and Elvis Dumervil 1.5. Dumervil missed last season after tearing a chest muscle in training camp shortly after parlaying his 17-sack season into a big contract.
The Broncos sputtered without him and chose Miller out of Texas A&M with the second overall draft pick in April. Miller has three sacks in the preseason.

_

Bolts' backups steal win from Cardinals at end
GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Bryan Walters caught a 14-yard pass from Billy Volek to give the San Diego Chargers a 34-31 preseason victory over the Arizona Cardinals on Saturday night.
The chemistry that Kevin Kolb and Larry Fitzgerald keep talking about was on full display early for the Cardinals. They connected on an 80-yard play for the quarterback's first touchdown pass with his new team.
Later, though, San Diego's reserves scored with 3 seconds to play to win it.
Philip Rivers completed 18 of 28 passes for 198 yards and two touchdowns for the Chargers as both teams played their first units well into the third quarter. Chargers tight end Antonio Gates, in his first game since Dec. 5, caught two passes for 18 yards, including a 13-yarder for a touchdown.[/SPOILER-BOX]

JAGUARS TO CUT GARRARD
The Jaguars have told starting QB David Garrard they are releasing him, Jay Glazer of Fox Sports and NFL Network reports.

Garrard gone, McCown elevated to starting QB by Jaguars

The Jacksonville Jaguars have informed starting quarterback David Garrard they are releasing him, Jay Glazer of NFL Network and Fox Sports reported Tuesday.

The surprising move means Luke McCown will start Sunday's season opener against the Tennessee Titans.

Garrard, 33, has started 58 of 64 games for the Jaguars during the past four seasons. In 2010, he passed for 2,734 yards and 23 touchdowns while throwing 15 interceptions. The touchdowns and interceptions were career highs.

McCown, 30, has been on and off the Jaguars' roster the past two season after spending four seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and one with the Cleveland Browns. His four starts as a rookie in Cleveland in 2004 remain a career high.

I was hoping the jags might actually make the play offs with Garrard since Manning is with his Neck injury. now that the jags cut him. it's a diffrent story. and with Ten. Mat Hassleback is a different story as well.
and if Tebow played with the jags we would have sold a bunch of tickets. now the yare suffering over 1000 tickets to be sold for the 1st game to avoid black out. i think the rest of the season is going to be blacked out. last year it was not blacked out. becuase they finished with an 8-8 record and they had great games they have one.

that was a GREAT GAME Last night it was almost like a super bowl game lets recap it.

Packers stand up Saints for season-opening win
GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Aaron Rodgers came out on top in a memorable opening-night duel with Drew Brees, and the defending Super Bowl champion Packers came up with a goal-line stand on the final play of the game to beat the New Orleans Saints 42-34 on Thursday night.
Packers rookie Randall Cobb caught a touchdown from Rodgers and also ran a kickoff back 108 yards for a score in the third quarter, tying an NFL record for the longest kickoff return in history.
Rodgers threw for 312 yards and three touchdowns. Brees threw for 419 yards and three touchdowns, including a late toss to Jimmy Graham that cut Green Bay's lead to eight with 2:15 left.
Brees marched the Saints down to the 1-yard line with three seconds left. But the Packers swarmed rookie running back Mark Ingram up the middle, and the game was over.

LETS RECAP FROM SUNDAYS GAME 9/11/11

[SPOILER-BOX]Ravens romp Steelers in record-setting opener
BALTIMORE -- Joe Flacco threw three touchdown passes, Haloti Ngata led an inspired defense that forced a team-record seven turnovers, and the Baltimore Ravens defeated the defending AFC champion Pittsburgh Steelers 35-7 Sunday.
Ray Rice ran for 107 yards and scored twice for the Ravens, who bolted to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter and never let up against their bitter rivals. It was a rematch of a second-round playoff matchup last January, when the Steelers rallied to beat Baltimore 31-24.
In that game, the Ravens let a 21-7 halftime lead evaporate with three turnovers in the third quarter. This time, the Ravens got three takeaways in the third quarter to turn a 21-7 advantage into a rout.
Ngata was the driving force, causing a fumble and deflecting a pass that produced an interception.
Pittsburgh's eight-game winning streak in season openers ended.

Cutler sharp as Bears take down Falcons
CHICAGO -- Brian Urlacher had an interception and returned a fumble for a touchdown, Jay Cutler threw for 312 yards and two scores and the Chicago Bears pounded Matt Ryan and the Atlanta Falcons 30-12 on Sunday.
In a matchup between reigning division champions, it was no contest. This one clearly belonged to Chicago.
Urlacher picked off Ryan to set up an early 56-yard touchdown catch by Matt Forte, and in the third quarter the linebacker picked up a fumble by Ryan and scored from 12 yards out to make it 30-6. That came on one of two sacks by Julius Peppers. Henry Melton also had two sacks and the Bears got to Ryan five times in all.
Cutler completed 22 of 32 passes in his first game at Soldier Field since the Bears' loss to Green Bay in the NFC title game.
Ryan completed 31 of 47 passes for 319 yards.

Gradkowski helps lift Bengals past sloppy Browns
CLEVELAND -- A.J. Green caught Cleveland's defense napping for his first career catch, a 41-yard touchdown from backup quarterback Bruce Gradkowski, giving the Cincinnati Bengals a stunning 27-17 win Sunday to spoil a sloppy debut by the Browns in coach Pat Shurmur's debut.
Green was left uncovered by the Browns, who were slow coming out of the huddle. All Gradkowski, on in relief of injured rookie Andy Dalton, had to do was lob the ball to Green. The speedy wideout did the rest, scoring with 4:31 left to shock the Browns and their fans, who watched Cleveland fall to 1-12 in season openers since 1999.
The play was equally surprising for the Bengals, who jumped in celebration at the improbable TD. This was the kind of play that has happened to Cincinnati in recent years.
Colt McCoy threw two TD passes for the Browns, who were disorganized for much of Shurmur's first game.

No Manning, no chance for Colts vs. Texans
HOUSTON -- The Indianapolis Colts looked lost without star quarterback Peyton Manning, and the Texans took advantage, with Matt Schaub throwing for 220 yards and one touchdown in a 34-7 season-opening rout Sunday.
Ben Tate rushed for 116 yards and another TD as he played in place of injured starter Arian Foster, and the Texans dominated Kerry Collins, Manning's replacement.
Manning, the NFL's only four-time MVP, didn't even travel with the Colts to Houston as he recovers from his third neck surgery in the past 19 months. The Colts lured 38-year-old Collins out of retirement less than three weeks ago to take a crash course in the offense, and that looked like a bad option in the opener.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Maurice Jones-Drew scored a touchdown in his return from knee surgery, and the Jaguars used a flawless start behind new starting quarterback Luke McCown and some clutch plays late to edge the Tennessee Titans 16-14 in the season opener Sunday.
Titans running back Chris Johnson, who joined the team a little more than a week ago following a contract holdout, pretty much was a nonfactor. Johnson ran nine times for 24 yards and caught six passes for 25 yards.
Jacksonville dominated for most of the first three quarters, but AFC South rival Tennessee made it close with two second-half touchdown passes from Matt Hasselbeck to Kenny Britt. The Titans still had a shot, but Dwight Lowery intercepted Hasselbeck's deep pass with less than 30 seconds left in the game.

Fitzpatrick throws four TD passes as Bills rip Chiefs
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Ryan Fitzpatrick threw four touchdown passes, two of them to journeyman tight end Scott Chandler, and the Buffalo Bills romped to a season-opening 41-7 victory over the Chiefs on Sunday.
Fitzpatrick finished with 208 passing yards for the Bills, who hadn't scored 40 points in an opener since a 40-7 victory over the Los Angeles Rams on Sept. 6, 1992.
Fred Jackson added 112 rushing yards for Buffalo.
Matt Cassel threw for 119 yards amd one touchdown with one interception for Kansas City.
It was the most lopsided season-opening loss in Chiefs history and the worst home loss by the franchise since a 45-0 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers 35 years ago.

Eagles fire on all cylinders in road win over Rams
ST. LOUIS -- Michael Vick rushed for 98 yards, LeSean McCoy scored two touchdowns and DeSean Jackson topped 100 receiving yards as the Philadelphia Eagles began their self-proclaimed Super Bowl drive with a 31-13 victory over the Rams on Sunday.
The Eagles had 239 rushing yards and were 8 of 11 on third downs. The defense applied constant pressure and piled up five sacks, two by Justin Babin. Darryl Tapp forced a Sam Bradford fumble that led to an easy 56-yard touchdown return by Juqua Parker.
Steven Jackson ran for a 47-yard score on the Rams' first play, but he lasted only one more carry before leaving with a right leg injury for St. Louis. Quarterback Sam Bradford left for X-rays on a finger of his throwing hand in the fourth quarter.

Lions get three TDs from Stafford in promising win
TAMPA, Fla. -- Matthew Stafford threw for 305 yards and three touchdowns Sunday to help the Detroit Lions beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 27-20 for their fifth consecutive victory dating to the final month of the 2010 season.
Stafford completed 24 of 33 passes, including TD throws of 36 and 1 yards to Calvin Johnson and 11 yards to Tony Scheffler.
The only interception he threw glanced off the hands of intended receiver Will Heller and was returned 28 yards by Aqib Talib for the only touchdown Tampa Bay managed until Josh Freeman threw a 5-yard scoring pass to Mike Williams with less than two minutes to go.

Newton record-setting, but Panthers fall to Cards
GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Rookie Patrick Peterson made amends for a long afternoon at cornerback with an 89-yard punt return for the go-ahead touchdown and the Arizona Cardinals overcame a magnificent NFL debut by Cam Newton to escape with a 28-21 victory over the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.
Newton, the No. 1 draft pick playing on the same field where he led Auburn to the BCS championship in January, completed 24 of 37 passes for 422 yards and two touchdowns with one interception, the first rookie to throw for more than 400 yards in his NFL opener.
The Panthers had first down at the Arizona 11 late in the game, and even got an extra down on an offside call, but failed to score. Steve Smith had eight catches for 178 yards for Carolina, including touchdown plays of 77 and 26 yards.
Kevin Kolb was 18 of 27 for 309 yards and two touchdowns in his first game for Arizona.

Tolbert scores three TDs, lifts Chargers over Vikings
SAN DIEGO -- Fullback Mike Tolbert's third touchdown, a 19-yard pass from Philip Rivers with 5:01 to play, lifted the Chargers to a 24-17 victory over Adrian Peterson and the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday.
Rivers rolled left and waited for Tolbert to get open inside the Vikings' 5-yard line, then lobbed the winning pass. Rivers completed 33 of 48 passes for 335 yards and was intercepted twice. Tolbert also scored on a seven-yard run and had a one-yard touchdown catch.
Peterson, who set the NFL single-game record with 296 yards against San Diego as a rookie in 2007, had 98 yards on 16 carries one day after signing a contract extension potentially worth $100 million.

Ginn's heroics help 49ers to victory over Seahawks
Ted Ginn Jr. returned a kickoff and a punt for touchdowns in a minute's span late in the fourth quarter, and the San Francisco 49ers gave Jim Harbaugh a 33-17 victory over the visiting Seattle Seahawks in his much-hyped NFL debut and renewed coaching rivalry with Pete Carroll.
The last player to have a kickoff- and punt-return touchdown in the same game was Eddie Royal of the Denver Broncos on Oct. 19, 2009, against the San Diego Chargers.
Ginn ran a kickoff back 102 yards moments after the defending NFC West champion Seahawks had closed within 19-17. It was the second-longest kick return at home and fourth-longest in team history.
Alex Smith exhibited the poise and polish that Harbaugh believed the 2005 No. 1 overall pick still had in him despite recent history, going 15-of-20 passing for 124 yards and running for a 1-yard TD. David Akers kicked four field goals in his first game with San Francisco.
New Seattle QB Tarvaris Jackson threw a late 55-yard touchdown pass to Doug Baldwin, who played for Harbaugh at Stanford.

Grossman's steady hand helps 'Skins dump Giants
LANDOVER, Md. -- Rex Grossman completed 21 of 34 passes for 305 yards and two touchdowns Sunday as the Washington Redskins opened the season with a 28-14 victory over the NFC East rival New York Giants.
Making his first Week 1 start since 2007, Grossman justified -- at least for a week -- coach Mike Shanahan's decision to go with the veteran over John Beck after a quarterback competition that lasted the entire preseason.
Grossman started 0-of-4 passing, but he found Anthony Armstrong for an 18-yard completion that set up a 1-yard touchdown run by Tim Hightower. Grossman later hit Armstrong for a 6-yard score, and first-round draft pick Ryan Kerrigan swung the momentum in the second half by returning an interception for a touchdown.
Eli Manning completed 18 of 32 passes for 268 yards for the Giants.

Jets fully exploit turnovers to corral Cowboys
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Nick Folk kicked a 50-yard field goal with 27 seconds left, giving the New York Jets a 27-24 comeback victory over the Dallas Cowboys in the final game of the NFL's first full Sunday, with the commemoration of the 10-year anniversary of the 9/11 attacks as an emotional backdrop.
With the game tied at 24, the Cowboys had a chance for a winning drive with 59 seconds left, but Tony Romo was intercepted on the first play by Darrelle Revis, who returned it 20 yards to Dallas' 34. Four plays later, Folk kicked the go-ahead field goal against his former team.
The Jets tied it with five minutes left when Isaiah Trufant, promoted from the practice squad Saturday, ran in a blocked punt from 18 yards for a touchdown. Joe McKnight ran up the middle unblocked and got his hands on Mat McBriar's kick, which bounced right into Trufant's hands.

Eagles looked pretty solid most of the time, however there's one huge issue that needs to be fixed asap. Run Defense. They were getting torn up like paper, and it was only the rams. Luckily the league is pass happy, but the better teams will exploit that to full effect.

dont remind... lol. i bet texans are going to the play offs this year.

I think. they should def. put in Blaine Gabbert! while he is still fresh! am i right? and hes the 10th pick in the draft! and going against Carolina NExt week. we can compare which Rookie QB is the best! right? that was on the stage in the draft!
even though they Mcown played Horrible. Garrard did the same thing before. but since he's a veteran i thik jags want a QB that wants to be in the post season / playoffs every year! just like the patriots and Colts ( even though manning is inured )

just like Mathew Stafford! he is now 2-0 with the lions! and they played great yesterday! he didn't do great the 1st season he played becuase of his shoulder . but i think if you start Gabbert he will get the NFL experience! even though they wont make the play offs. but then next year he will improve and improve as the years ago one! just like Mathew stafford! am i right?

Yeah I agree Ryno. At least you don't have the QB Controversy going on like Denver does with Orton v Tebow. Listen I'll cheer for Tebow to do well b/c heck he plays for the Broncos and heck he's a winner, but I have always been a supporter of Orton starting b/c he gives the team the best chance to win. With your Jags though I think starting Gabbert now and having him take his lumps seems reasonable to me b/c right now that team (especially on offensive) looks like they are just going through the motions and its only week 2.

Bills stay ubeaten, stun Pats with furious rally
ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- Hold on to your seats, the Buffalo Bills are showing they're for real.
Rian Lindell hit a 28-yard field goal as time expired to cap a stunning comeback for a 34-31 victory over the New England Patriots on Sunday. The win snapped Buffalo's 15-game losing streak against the Patriots that dated to 2003, and sparked a wild celebration in which stadium officials guarded the goal posts to ensure fans didn't bring them down.
The Bills (3-0) won courtesy of yet another Ryan Fitzpatrick-led rally, overcoming a 21-0 second-quarter deficit. It was reminiscent to what the Bills did in a 38-35 win over Oakland a week earlier, when they scored touchdowns on their final five possession to overcome a 21-3 deficit.

I'm currently leading by 16 pts but my opponent and I both have 2 players remaining. I should be alright though. That does sux about Vick's injury, but I would have started Flacco anyways over Vick today considering he's coming off that concussion and plus Flacco played against a "bad" Rams defense. Well Broncos coughed up the lead to the Titans today so that puts them at 1-2. They are way too conservative on offense; they gotta find a way to stretch the field IMO. Von Miller though....3 forced fumbles in 3 games so I take that for sure plus he's an Aggie. Don't get me started on that game against Oklahoma State though (ugh what a choke job....AGAIN!)

Ravens took care of business yesterday and got themselves s good win, despite it being against a Rams team with a weak defense. Flacco had a career day, and rookie Torrey Smith's first three receptions in his career in the regular season were touchdowns. He was limping a bit later in the game, but he played through it, so hopefully he will be fine (they cant afford to have both of their deep threats not at 100%). Next Sunday they host the Jets in primetime. This will be Rex Ryan's first time back in Baltimore as the head coach of the Jets.

and then SKIN might be 3-0.. wow.
and now Detroit lions are 3-0! Mathew Stafford progressing! i think he is now the real deal now. even though they struggled that game.

and about the Jags and panthers game Cat vs cat. rookie vs rookie draft QB's on draft stage going after each other. uhg...

it was such a wet game i couldnt tell if they were doing bad or if it was the weather. but all i know is that the jags defense played well. could have done some interceptions and fumbles. and the bad thing about what the jags did. is couldnt handle the ball when snapping the football. did that like 4 times. but Gabbert played pretty well for a 1st career start espeically in the rain. i think he did better than CAM. maybe becuase the jags defense played well. lol. compared to mcown.

Hilariously sad, yes. The worst part is people think the Lions are worth a shit now. I doubt they'll make the playoffs. Hell, whenever the teams Detroit plays decide to stop handing them wins (well, Dallas and Minnesota handed them; don't know about the other games), maybe they'll come back down to earth and realize that they aren't as good as they think.

I was having fun on Facebook last night trolling Lions fans, though, telling them that they won't make the playoffs, probably have a finishing record of 4-12, etc.

Anyway, on the fantasy front, I'm glad I gave Vick another shot this week. Got me a lot of points, and the Eagles lost (another plus). I feel bad for my dad, though. His opponent this week had Rodgers at QB. He got 43 points alone. Goddamn.

I'm hurting for TEs, though. Antonio Gates has that weird foot problem, and Aaron Hernandez as a torn MCL. I've resulted to using Fred Davis, and he's not that bad, but Washington has a bye next week, and I'll have no healthy TEs unless one of the other two get better somehow.

The Eagles made a huge mistake proclaiming themselves the "Dream Team." I think Phil Simms said yesterday that teams like to "come after" players, or other teams, that give themselves pretentious nicknames. I'd have to agree with him.

That's why I don't really like how Dallas is called "America's Team", but at least that nickname wasn't self-proclaimed...

Good games yesterday, though. Vick got me decent fantasy points (though, no thanks to those 4 INTs, Mikey...), and the Eagles still managed to lose. Giants lost, too. I also enjoyed watching the Jets lose, but watching the Patriots beat them gave me a little preview of what I'm probably in for next weekend. That's going to suck.

Now that the mini Tebow sighting is over, the Texans really looked impressive without most of our key guys this past weekend. And my other two teams, my skins and colts, got TORCHED lol so it was a half and half weekend for me.

Steelers contain Brady in edging Patriots
PITTSBURGH -- Ben Roethlisberger passed for 365 yards and two touchdowns as the Pittsburgh Steelers finally found a way to beat Tom Brady and the New England Patriots 25-17 on Sunday.
Roethlisberger completed 36 of 50 passes and led the Steelers (6-2) on a series of clock-chewing drives, effectively keeping Brady and the NFL's top-ranked offense off the field. Pittsburgh held the ball for more than 39 minutes and survived a late rally to win its fourth straight following a 2-2 start.
Brady passed for two touchdowns but threw for a season-low 198 yards and couldn't get into any sort of rhythm while losing to the Steelers for just the second time in his career.
The Patriots (5-2) drew within six when Brady hit Aaron Hernandez for a one-yard touchdown pass with 2:35 remaining, but a last-gasp drive ended when Brady was sacked and the ball rolled out of the end zone for a safety with eight seconds to play.

Yeah that game sucked. Such a shitshow, and the ending was just pitiful. Also, the officials missing Gronk's TD pissed me off so hard -- it could've been such a game changer!! Of course part of the fault lies with Bill Belichick, who's usually pretty smart about challenges, for not breaking out the red flag.

I understand teams have off-games. Hell, the Ravens had quite the off-game against the Jaguars last week. So, it's understandable; these things happen.

I just really wish that it hadn't been an off-game while playing the Filthydelphia Eagles.

At least Vick got me some Fantasy points.

Man such a poor sports week for me personally....

1. Had Texas in 6 and b/c Cards were team of destiny I lost out on cash money. Happy that Berkman got a ring though since I'm an Astros fan
2. Texas A&M loses at home to Missouri (again) via choke job (again)
3. Tebow was AWFUL and Broncos fall to 2-5 on the season.

I guess some silver lining would be that my fantasy team won this week big to stop a 4 game losing streak, Colorado Avalanche have started well this NHL season and Houston Dynamo won 1st Leg in MLS playoffs

I'm glad the Ravens got that win against Arizona. It was the biggest comeback in team history. A good win to have with the division so tight. If they beat :cough: Pittsburgh, they shouldn't have a problem winning the division.

Packers get pair of pick-sixes in win over Chargers
SAN DIEGO -- The Green Bay Packers are still undefeated, thanks to both Aaron Rodgers and Philip Rivers.
Rodgers was at his best, throwing lasers, long balls and touchdown passes to four receivers as the Packers held on through a wild finish to beat the banged-up San Diego Chargers, 45-38, on Sunday.
The defending Super Bowl champion Packers (8-0) remain the NFL's only undefeated team. The Chargers (4-4) are staggering, having lost three straight games.
Rodgers completed 21 of 26 passes for 247 yards and ran his NFL-leading total to 24 TD throws. He had scoring passes of 5 yards to Jermichael Finley, 16 to Jordy Nelson, 21 to James Jones and 4 to Greg Jennings.
Rivers also threw four touchdown passes to tie his career high, three of them to Vincent Jackson, but had three interceptions. Two were returned for touchdowns in the span of six plays in the first quarter. The final pickoff, by Charlie Peprah, came in the closing seconds after the Chargers got one last chance at tying the game. Peprah returned it 76 yards to seal the victory.
The Packers led by 21 points early in the fourth quarter before Rivers threw touchdown passes of 5 and 29 yards to Jackson in the span of 1:07 midway through the quarter.
San Diego had a final chance to tie it, starting a drive at its 32 with 1:05 remaining and no timeouts left. Aided by a pass interference call against Charles Woodson, Rivers moved the Chargers to the Packers 41 before putting up a deep ball that Peprah easily picked off.
Rivers' 14 interceptions lead the NFL. He was 26 of 46 for 385 yards.
His miserable stretch of turnovers continued with two pick-sixes that gave the Packers a 21-7 lead.
Desmond Bishop tipped a pass intended for tight end Antonio Gates and Peprah intercepted. He broke four tackles during his 40-yard return and got a big block by Clay Matthews.
On the next Chargers possession, Tramon Williams jumped a route for an interception and 40-yard TD return.
Rivers and Mike Tolbert kept the Chargers in the game. Tolbert scored on an 8-yard run and, after the Chargers held the Packers on fourth-and-2 at the San Diego 36, Nick Novak kicked a career-best 52-yard field goal to pull to 21-17.
Amazingly, the Packers' next drive was just their third of the first half. Although he was sacked twice, Rodgers moved the Packers to the San Diego 16 before throwing a TD pass to Nelson, who hauled it in at the 1 and then rolled into the end zone for a 28-17 halftime lead.
After Rivers hit Gates with an 11-yard TD pass in the third quarter, Rodgers, who lives in the San Diego area in the offseason, threw a perfect 21-yarder to Jones and then a 4-yarder to Jennings early in the fourth quarter to seemingly put away the game.
The Chargers played without injured running back Ryan Mathews, wide receiver Malcom Floyd and linebacker Shaun Phillips. San Diego guard Kris Dielman missed his second straight game with a concussion.

Manning's TD pass propels Giants past Pats again
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- Eli Manning hit Jake Ballard for a 1-yard touchdown pass with 15 seconds left, giving the New York Giants a 24-20 win over the New England Patriots on Sunday, repeating a comeback victory similar to the 2008 Super Bowl between the teams.
The Giants won that one, 17-14, on Manning's 13-yard scoring pass to Plaxico Burress with 35 seconds remaining. But on Sunday, it looked like the Patriots would win with a comeback of their own when Tom Brady threw a 14-yard scoring pass to Rob Gronkowski, making it 20-17 with 1:36 to go.
But the Giants (6-2) had enough time to move 80 yards on eight plays -- helped by a 20-yard pass interference penalty against the Patriots (5-3) that put the ball at the one with 30 seconds to play. Three plays later, Manning found Ballard in the back left corner of the end zone.

The Ravens got another big win yesterday. I jumped off the couch when Torrey Smith missed that touchdown pass, and then again when he scored a few plays later (I had to be reserved in my celebration since I was that was awake in my house) . Defense was solid, and T Sizzle (Ball So Hard University:D:D) got a big interception that set up a scoring drive. If they can at least split the season series with the Bengals, they can easily wrap up the division.

It's not an off game when your team just sucks. The Eagles played like the team they were supposed to be from the start, the Cowgirls played like an overpaid, mediocre team with an overhyped quarterback who is the NFL's version of LeBron.

The Ravens-Jags was an off game. Eagles-Cowboys was not.

Originally being from Philly, and visiting there numerous times in my life, I feel that "The City of Brotherly Love" is quite an ironic name for the place.

Also, Romo is hardly "overhyped." When's the last time you saw or heard someone who knew what they were talking about say how absolutely amazing he is? It's been a good, long while. Ergo, he's not "hyped" at all. He gets bashed from all sides. While he puts up good numbers, he lacks consistency. That's his major flaw. He's this Dallas generation's Danny White.

Anyway, you can believe what you will (trust me, being a Dallas fan, I get hate all the time, so I'm used to it), but the Eagles aren't that good of a team, either. Whether or not that windbag Vince Young called them "The Dream Team", they still aren't anywhere near that. They're just more consistent than Dallas, and that's obviously a huge factor for what makes a team subjectively "better" than others.

On to other things, the Steelers lost again. Good stuff, both because

A. I hate the Steelers.

B. The guy I was playing against in Fantasy this week had Roethlisberger, so I needed him to have a less-than-great game, which he did. You almost can always count on Baltimore to come through against Pittsburgh.

Now, I need Vick to have at least a decent performance tonight (but, it would obviously be nice if the Eagles still lost), and I'll have this week in the bag. I'm already on a bit of a roll, since I put the final nail in my brother's coffin last week, effectively ending any chance he had at making our league's playoffs.

After the Ravens game, I was very upset at the way my favorite team played. They totally abandoned the run, which is a real disappointment since Ray Rice has been one of the more consistent players for us all year. And those two turnovers on special teams killed us (David Reed:argh:).

However there are some good things that came out of this game if you can believe that. The two tight ends continue to bet better, and the defense continues to show that they are the most dominant in the league in the way that the minimized the number of points scored after turnovers.

It seems like the Ravens put so much energy into beating the Steelers that they are having trouble with teams after with the games that follow (0-2 following those wins). I still believe that they are the best team in the AFC, and will validate their position as one of the top teams in the NFL when they win their upcoming games against the Bengals and the 49ers.

TEXANS' LEINART TO START IN PLACE OF SCHAUB

Though he gave no indication he was playing through pain during the Texans' 37-9 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Houston quarterback Matt Schaub suffered what's now being called a significant foot injury during the first half of Sunday's victory.

Texans coach Gary Kubiak revealed Schaub's injury Monday during his weekly news conference and already ruled the quarterback out following the Texans' Week 11 bye.

Matt Leinart will start for the Texans against the Jaguars in Week 12.

My San Francisco 49ers, once the best team in the league and five* rings, falls from grace.
But this new season is quite exciting.

A poem:
-------------
Ten years in the Desert of the NFL,
the badlands they are banished.
And then a miracle appears.
No, not a first round draft pick.
But a coach by the name of
Jim Harbaugh
And rise the mighty 49ers have!
They are 8-1
With a single loss to the Dallas Cowboys (booooo)
Now we begin the second part of the season with much angst
for the glow of those five rings calls a Sixth
And the West Coast offense shall shatter the meagerness of the AFC
Patriots? Texans? Steelers? Raiders?
LULZ
The Niners like knights in shining armor on steeds of white
shall trounce upon the other weaker elements of the NFC West
Thy AFC & NFC West bodies shall quake with fear!
For the rise of a mighty 49ers team harkens in the West
With a hearty shout shall Jim Harbaugh lead them to the playoff
And dare we say...a Super Bowl?
AMEN!

*The five Super Bowl win are 1981, 1984, 1988, 1989 and 1995.

Usually obnoxious loudmouths that do that, too. Even when Dallas is sucking, I still support them and remain vocal about it, like a good fan should.

after a win from Philly Eagles against the giants 17-10 on Sunday night.

here is the recap of Sundays afternoon games

[SPOILER-BOX]Ravens hold on fourth-and-goal to topple Bengals
BALTIMORE -- Joe Flacco threw for 270 yards and two touchdowns, and the Baltimore Ravens squeezed by the Cincinnati Bengals 31-24 on Sunday to move into first place in the AFC North.
Flacco connected with rookie Torrey Smith on a 38-yard TD to give Baltimore (7-3) a 31-14 lead early in the fourth quarter. Smith finished with six catches for 165 yards, while Ray Rice ran for 104 yards and two scores.
The Bengals (6-4) got to the Baltimore 7 in the final minute but could not score the tying touchdown.
The victory moved the Ravens into a first-place tie with Pittsburgh, but Baltimore is 2-0 against the Steelers and holds the tiebreaker advantage.
Bengals rookie quarterback Andy Dalton threw for 373 yards but was intercepted three times.

__

Browns outlast Jags despite missed field-goal try
CLEVELAND -- Jacksonville rookie quarterback Blaine Gabbert's pass into the end zone on the game's final play was incomplete, allowing the Cleveland Browns to escape with a 14-10 win over the Jaguars on Sunday.
Gabbert rifled a 3-yard pass high over the middle that went off wide receiver Mike Thomas' outstretched hands, and the Browns (4-6) celebrated a win they nearly gave away.
Colt McCoy shook off an apparent injury and threw a 3-yard TD pass to Josh Cribbs in the fourth to give Cleveland a 14-10 lead. A missed field goal by Browns kicker Phil Dawson with 2:49 left gave the Jaguars (3-7) a final chance and Gabbert nearly pulled off the comeback.
Chris Ogbonnaya rushed for 115 yards and scored on a 1-yard run for Cleveland, ending a touchdown drought at home that lasted more than 158 minutes.

_

Stafford's five TD passes rally Lions past Panthers
DETROIT -- Matthew Stafford threw his fifth touchdown pass to Brandon Pettigrew with 2:32 left to help the Detroit Lions rally to beat the Carolina Panthers 49-35 Sunday.
Detroit (7-3) became the first NFL team since at least 1950 to win three games in a season after trailing by at least 17 points, according to STATS, LLC.
Carolina (2-8) led 24-7 in the second quarter.
The Panthers tied it at 35 with 4:59 left on Cam Newton's 6-yard run and 2-point conversion pass.
Stafford started the game-winning drive with a 30-yard pass to Calvin Johnson and capped it by converting a third down from the 7 with a strike to Pettigrew in the end zone.
Newton helped Detroit seal the victory by throwing his third interception on the next snap.

__
Rodgers' late TD helps Packers beat Buccaneers
GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Aaron Rodgers threw three touchdown passes and the Green Bay Packers survived a scare from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in a 35-26 victory Sunday.
With the Packers leading by two points and trying to fend off a rally by Tampa Bay in the fourth quarter, Rodgers found Jordy Nelson for a clinching 40-yard touchdown with 2:55 left in the game -- Nelson's second TD catch of the afternoon.
The Packers ran their record to 10-0, leaving them as the NFL's lone undefeated team going into a Thanksgiving Day matchup at Detroit.
Josh Freeman threw for 342 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions for the Buccaneers (4-6), who have lost four straight but didn't back down against one of the NFL's elite teams.

__

Surging Dolphins rout injury-riddled Bills
MIAMI -- Miami set up two touchdowns with interceptions, Matt Moore threw for three scores, and the Dolphins' improbable midseason surge gained momentum Sunday when they drubbed the Buffalo Bills 35-8.
After losing their first seven games, the Dolphins (3-7) have three consecutive victories for the first time since 2008, winning by a combined score of 86-20. Buffalo (5-5) has been outscored 106-26 while losing three in a row.
To make matters worse for the injury-riddled Bills, they lost NFL rushing leader Fred Jackson in the third quarter when he hurt his leg. Receiver Donald Jones (left ankle) and cornerback Terrence McGee (left leg) were carted off the field in the second period.
For the third game in a row, the Dolphins held the opposition without a touchdown.

__

Raiders survive Vikings' late rally for road win
MINNEAPOLIS -- Carson Palmer threw for 164 yards and a touchdown, and the Oakland Raiders capitalized on mistakes by Minnesota in a 27-21 victory over the Vikings on Sunday.
Michael Bush rushed for 109 yards and a touchdown for the Raiders (6-4), who suffered a scare when receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey was carted off the field with a neck injury in the fourth quarter.
Heyward-Bey was injured when linebacker E.J. Henderson's knee inadvertently hit him in the back of the head while he was being tackled. No movement could be seen in his extremities, and there was no immediate word on his status.
Adrian Peterson left the game in the second quarter with an injured left ankle, and the Vikings (2-8) weren't able to complete a fourth-quarter rally.

__

Cowboys beat Redskins in OT for third straight
LANDOVER, Md. -- Dan Bailey kicked a 39-yard field goal 9:21 into overtime Sunday, giving the Dallas Cowboys a 27-24 win over the Washington Redskins.
The Cowboys rallied after allowing a late fourth-quarter touchdown to win their third straight and improve to 6-4, keeping the pressure on the first-place New York Giants in the NFC East.
The Redskins lost their sixth straight, their longest skid since their 0-7 start in 1998. They sent the game to overtime on Rex Grossman's 4-yard fade pass to Donte' Stallworth with 14 seconds remaining in regulation.
Washington's Graham Gano missed a 52-yard field goal in overtime.
Bailey's winning kick was set up by Tony Romo's 26-yard pass to Dez Bryant.

__

49ers topple Cardinals for eighth straight win
SAN FRANCISCO -- Alex Smith threw for 267 yards and two touchdowns, and the San Francisco 49ers forced five turnovers to blow past the Arizona Cardinals 23-7 on a soggy Sunday at Candlestick Park.
Smith tossed scores to Kyle Williams and Vernon Davis on the first two drives of the third quarter to help the 49ers pull away for their eighth straight victory. San Francisco (9-1) can clinch the NFC West with a win at Baltimore on Thursday and a loss by Seattle against Washington next weekend.
Patrick Willis, Donte Whitner and Dashon Goldson all intercepted passes by John Skelton. The quarterback for the Cardinals (3-7) lost for the first time in three starts this season in place of the injured Kevin Kolb.

__

Seahawks handle Rams for second straight win
ST. LOUIS -- Sidney Rice caught a touchdown pass and drew a pass interference call in the end zone that led to a field goal, and the Seattle Seahawks defeated the St. Louis Rams 24-7 on Sunday.
The Seahawks' defense also came up with a big game, sacking Sam Bradford five times and forcing him to lose two fumbles that led to touchdowns.
Marshawn Lynch scored for the fourth straight week, although he just missed on a third straight 100-yard game. Chris Clemons had three sacks and came up with both fumbles. The Rams (2-8) totaled 185 yards.
The Seahawks (4-6) won on consecutive weeks for the first time, following up on an upset over Baltimore, and have won 12 of 13 in the series.
Seattle improved to 2-4 on the road in a game notable for sloppy play and 19 punts, including a season-high 10 by the Rams' Donnie Jones.

__
Falcons hold on after Titans lose Hasselbeck
ATLANTA -- Roddy White had seven receptions for a season-high 147 yards and Jonathan Babineaux led an Atlanta defense that held off the Tennessee Titans for a 23-17 victory Sunday.
The Falcons (6-4) bounced back from an overtime loss to New Orleans, but it wasn't easy. Jake Locker took over for injured Matt Hasselbeck and threw a pair of touchdown passes to Nate Washington to make a game of it for the Titans (5-5).
Atlanta jumped ahead on Matt Ryan's 17-yard touchdown pass to Tony Gonzalez and was up 20-3 in the third quarter after Michael Turner scored on a 4-yard run.
Hasselbeck went out with a sprained elbow and Locker nearly led an improbable comeback. The rookie threw for 140 yards after taking over late in the third quarter.

__

Cutler keeps Bears streaking, Chargers reeling
CHICAGO -- Jay Cutler threw for 286 yards and two touchdowns, and the Chicago Bears won their fifth straight, beating Philip Rivers and the San Diego Chargers 31-20 on Sunday.
Chicago (7-3) continued its remarkable turnaround and handed the Chargers their fifth straight loss, their longest slide since an 0-5 start in 2003. But it wasn't easy.
Rivers threw for 280 yards. For most of the game, he looked more like a Pro Bowl quarterback than the guy who had been turning it over at an alarming rate. But two late interceptions helped preserve the win for Chicago.
The Bears were leading 31-20 when San Diego's Antoine Cason returned an interception 64 yards to the Chicago 20. But instead of driving for a touchdown, Rivers sealed it with an interception.

TEBOW TIME!

Although more than anything the defensive has been playing lights out especially Von Miller (Gig Em...WHOOP!)

My dad and I decided to watch that game. No offense, but Tebow is really predictable. Not necessarily bad, mind you, but just easy to read. Almost every play was either an option run, or an attempted pass that turned into a run. Even though he did have a some nice completions, most of his passes were horribly overthrown. I don't see what the big deal is about him.

Anyway, I played a guy in Fantasy this week that didn't even bother changing his lineup (he had Fred Jackson, who is on IR, and Chad Ochocinco, who was out) since his record is like 4-7 or something. So, easy win for me, and Darren Sproles hasn't even gone for me yet.

As for the Dallas game on Thanksgiving, I knew it wasn't going to be easy, really. Miami has been looking sharper than usual the past few weeks, so I knew it was going to actually be a game, and not just a beatdown. I had to take some Excedrin after the game, though, due to stress and too many shots of rum. Good times.

Yeah I was kinda surprised about the Cowboys/Dolphins game. I agree with Tebow being somewhat predictable but man that guy just has a will to win. I still think our D isn't getting enough credit. Von Miller is only 4 sacks away from breaking the rookie sack record that Julius Peppers put up and he still has 5 more games. It's so funny b/c I told all my friends and A&M college buddies last year that he was the perfect fit for Denver. It's working well thus far

He's... perplexing. He's a bad quarterback, but he wins games. He's got one hell of a set of intangibles that's working... somehow.

I'm still trying to put an opinion together on him and his future in the NFL.

ok. this morning at work i went on facebook and on my news feed was filled with Jack Del Rio fired. I think it's the Players not doing well not Jack Delrio. becuase back in the coughlin era Brunell , Fred Taylor, Jimmy Smith.. etc those players. they did great. after that they started to do bad. and fired coughlin. becuase players start to get old. and it was just them that are goof. but this year and the past seasons with jack it's just the players. that dont do good. i think. becuase right now in NY they are thinking of firing Coughlin.

but oh well it is what it is...

I think The Jags should Pick up Bill Cower. or Maybe pick Couphlin again?
also a jags sold to a new owner. since wayne weaver retired and hes getting old. and want to enjor life. the new owner. i think his name is kahn want to stay in jax with the team.. but hey that could change.. lol. last year in 2010 he want to buy the rams. lol.

this was so unexpected when i saw it this morning.

wow when i go to monday night football. i'm going to feel a bit weird at a new era. I think alot of fans are.

I heard on the news that Del Rio had an ultimatum at the beginning of the season:

Get the Jaguars to the playoffs, or hit the road.

And, I think the Jags playoffs hopes are pretty much out the window, so Del Rio's job in Jacksonville followed suit. I found it kind of a shocker that the new owners were considering selling the team off to another city, but they said it probably won't happen.

I dunno Del Rio to looks like he packed it in a few weeks ago. Doesn't help that the Jags for the most part haven't done a very good job in the draft so Del Rio didn't have much to work with anyway. Couple that along with the Garrard debacle before the season started probably started the smoke before the FIRE (lol corny I know)

Jacksonville does it again! as in Tebow! :)

Broncos share division lead after beating Vikes
MINNEAPOLIS -- Tim Tebow led yet another late rally, passing for a season-best 202 yards and two third-quarter touchdowns to help the Denver Broncos win their fifth straight game with a 35-32 victory over the Minnesota Vikings.
Matt Prater kicked two field goals in the final 93 seconds for the Broncos (7-5), who moved into a first-place tie in the AFC West with a loss by the Oakland Raiders. Christian Ponder set Minnesota's single-game rookie record with 381 yards passing, including a pair of touchdowns to Percy Harvin, but his sideline throw with 1:33 remaining was intercepted by Andre Goodman to set up the winner.
Harvin had a career-high 156 yards for the Vikings (2-10), who lost their fourth in a row.

We are the only team Brady has a losing record against in his career (1-5 inc playoffs). On a side note I'm torn who I should start for Fantasy Football Playoff game. I got Brady but of course I don't want him to do well against Denver and then I have Stafford and I DO want him to do really well against Oakland. Right, but they're getting shit on by Washington, who is a much worse team, this week. Things happen. I don't see any reason to "BOO-YAH!", really. You also have to take into account that Dan Bailey is a rookie, so of course a last second re-kick is going to psych him out.

As for the Denver/New England match-up, that will be a true test of Tebow's luck. I'm not saying I want him to fail, but it would be nice for him to get a reality check.

What was Sunday's biggest upset?

Chiefs over Packers

Colts over Titans

Redskins over Giants

Panthers over Texans

Chargers over Ravens
___

Id say Chief's Over Packers.

Orton finished 23 of 31 passing for 299 yards in his first start for the Chiefs (6-8.), who fired coach Todd Haley last Monday with the team having lost five of its last six games. The loss also ended the Packers' 19-game winning streak.
But behind an inspired performance by the defense, four field goals by Ryan Succop and Jackie Battle's short touchdown run with 4:53 left in the game, Kansas City managed to hand the Packers (13-1) their first loss since Dec. 19, 2010, at New England -- exactly one day shy of a full year.
Aaron Rodgers was just 17 of 35 passing for 235 yards and a touchdown, and he also scampered eight yards for another touchdown with 2:12 left in the game. But the Packers were unable to recover the onside kick. The Chiefs then ran out the clock.

It was not easy watching the Chargers beat on my Ravens, seeing that it will be harder to get the 1 seed. Not having Lardarius Webb really hurt us against the Chargers. With that Steelers loss to the niners, we should at least get the 2 seed by winning out. The Browns and Bengals should not be that much of an issue. It will be difficult for any team in the AFC to come to Baltimore and win a playoff game.

2-14 Colts finish would sew up No. 1

The suddenly surging Indianapolis Colts are guaranteed to have the No. 1 overall draft pick should they lose their final game of the season.

The Colts started 0-13 but their second straight win was a stunner, 19-16 over the AFC South champion Houston Texans on Thursday.

Still, if Indianapolis loses at Jacksonville on Jan. 1, they would finish with at least a share of the league's worst record at 2-14 and have the top pick in the draft by virtue of strength-of-schedule tiebreaker.

Both St. Louis and Minnesota are 2-12 heading into Saturday's games, but the Colts' .547 strength-of-schedule percentage is going to only worsen after playing the 4-10 Jaguars. The Rams' percentage is .587 and the Vikings' .587.

If the Colts beat Jacksonville and the Rams and Vikings lose their last two, the Colts would not get the top pick. If the Colts beat the Jags and St. Louis and Minnesota also finish 3-13, the No. 1 pick would go to the Colts.

Minnesota has games left at Washington (5-9) and at home against Chicago (7-7), and St. Louis finishes at Pittsburgh (10-4) and at home against San Francisco (11-3).

Lets Recap from today

Texans top Bengals, await Ravens in next round
HOUSTON -- No first-time playoff jitters for the Texans.
Rookie defensive end J.J. Watt returned an interception for a touchdown, and Andre Johnson and Arian Foster put the game away with second-half scores to power the Texans over the Cincinnati Bengals 31-10 on Saturday in an AFC Wild Card Game.
In the postseason for the first time in their 10-year history, the Texans came up with big plays on offense and defense to move into a divisional playoff game next Sunday at Baltimore.
Watt returned the first of Bengals rookie quarterback Andy Dalton's three interceptions 29 yards for a score that broke a 10-all tie with 52 seconds left in the half.
Texans quarterback T.J. Yates, also a rookie, then hit Johnson on a 40-yard touchdown pass late in the third quarter, and Foster added his second touchdown run, a 42-yarder, to put away the Bengals.

Brees, Sproles help Saints pull away from Lions
NEW ORLEANS -- Record-shattering Drew Brees threw for 466 yards and three touchdowns, and the New Orleans Saints poured it on in the second half for a 45-28 NFC wild-card victory over the Detroit Lions on Saturday night.
Brees hit on 33 of 43 passes while throwing for the most yards in a regulation playoff game. He highlighted his night with three completions of at least 40 yards.
As usual, the quarterback had plenty of help from an offense that set an NFL record for yards from scrimmage this season (7,474). The Saints (14-3) gained a whopping 627 yards of total offense, and will travel to San Francisco for next Saturday's second-round game.
Matthew Stafford threw for 380 yards and three TDs for the Lions (10-7), who simply could not keep pace in their first playoff appearance since 1999. They have lost seven straight playoff games.
All-Pro receiver Calvin Johnson had 12 receptions for 211 yards and two touchdowns in his playoff debut for Detroit.

Manning's passing, Giants' D too much for Falcons
Eli Manning threw three touchdown passes, and the New York Giants ran all over the Atlanta Falcons in a 24-2 rout in an NFC wild-card game Sunday.

Manning, who's having his best NFL season, connected with Hakeem Nicks for a 72-yard score and Mario Manningham on a 27-yarder as the Giants (10-7) pulled away from the inept Falcons (10-7) in the second half.
Manning also threw a 4-yard TD pass to Nicks in the first half, which came after the quarterback scrambled 14 yards to spark the 85-yard drive.
While Manning came through with touchdown passes, the tempo was set by New York's defense, which never allowed Atlanta to get going, and the league's lowest-ranked rushing game, which ran for a season-high 172 yards. Brandon Jacobs led the way with 92 yards on 14 carries.
The Giants travel to Green Bay next Sunday to play the defending Super Bowl champion Packers (15-1), who beat them 38-35 in December.

Haha yeah Brady and The Gronk are a huge handful for sure. Im just glad they opened up the offense so now with that bad NE secondary Denver can at least have a punchers chance

The worst part is that everyone's going to be all "Oh, praise Jeebus! Timmy did it again, all because he prayed to Jeebus!" That will get old quick.

Anyway, I'll pick for next week, even though I was only 1/4 for this past week. But, hey, that's why it's for fun.

-The Baltimore Ravens over the Houston Texans (Playing a playoff game on the road is completely different than at home, so I think Houston will feel the pressure)

-The Green Bay Packers over the New York Giants (It's another grudge pick, but Green Bay is rested, at home, and the Giants are known for flubbing in week 2 of the postseason)

-The New England Patriots over the Denver Broncos (The Broncos got another lucky win against a Steelers team that just plain ol' wasn't there. I think this is a case similar to Houston's, as in, being on the road is completely different. I'm not sure that Brady ever has had the type of "off day" like Roethlisberger had today. Also, as we saw earlier in the season, Tebow can't keep up with Brady unless the Denver defense is 110% for the whole game)

As for the New Orleans Saints versus the San Francisco 49ers, I really don't know. I won't even hazard a guess. This match-up is like Sir Issac Newton's "Unstoppable Force meets Immovable Object" theory personified. The only advantage is that the Saints statistically don't do quite as well in outdoor arenas, but I think that's all hearsay anyway.

My friend is attending a Bible college in Missouri - consequently, he's following a lot of other students and teachers on Twitter.

He's getting dozens and DOZENS of tweets saying something to the effect of "TEBOW TEBOW HES LIKE A MISSIONARY IN FOOTBALL!"

I don't have anything against the guy... But it seems like he's either hated or adored.

Nah you are exactly right. It's why he's the most polarizing person in sports right now. Some people don't like him b/c he's succeeding when "really" (just being honest) he shouldn't be and b/c he openly preaches about the Lord, etc. For those exact same reasons though that's why there are crazy fans "Tebowing" and saying he's the greatest thing ever. Listen I've been a Broncos fan all my life (grew up in Denver as a kid), but I really don't have a love em/hate em view with the guy one way or another. I'm just glad he's winning football games for the team I cheer for. That being said I am a Broncos fan who would rather see us get another QB like Robert Griffin III from Baylor b/c yes I would rather have a more polished QB playing on the team I cheer for, but that being said I am impressed by the way Tebow has performed with basically the entire nation (well media at least) breathing down his neck since he took over the QB duties

My predictions for the playoffs, the tl;dr version

Baltimore Ravens over the Houston Texans.
I don't like Houston
I like Harbaugh's brother
Ray Lewis will literally eat the Texans front four
Final score: 31-14 Ravens

Packers will take down Manning early
Rodgers will try to (but not match) Brees 400+ yards passing from the previous two games
Final score: 38-7 Packers

Bronocs over the Patriots.
Brady will be sacked on his first play
His favorite player (Gronk) will be double and triple teamed by the Broncos
Broncos will use zone defense to cover his favorite pass route.
Brady will throw no interceptions but there will be a lot of missed passes.
Tebow will pray to Jesus and a magical victory shall develop.
The game will be decided on the final play OR overtime.
Final score: 21-20 Broncos

I'm a 49ers fan. Ever since the Montana-Rice era.
I think Brees is a great quarterback and will likely air it out.
Expect a 400yd passing game (AGAIN) from Brees
Smith is no Montana. He's not good against sacks, so he needs protection.
The Saints front 4 are not going to pressure Smith very much
It all comes down to the running game of the 9ers.
If Brees gets intercepted or pressured, take about 2 scores off their final total.
Final score: 34-31 49ers

Which divisional round playoff game will generate the most points?
Saints-Niners
Broncos-Patriots
Giants-Packers
Texans-Ravens

id say Giants and Packers.
becuase the rest. probably has good offense and defense.

I haven't seen a high number of touchdowns by Smith the entire season.
(Maybe the 48-3 game against Tampa would count if Tampa weren't a JOKE team.
The St. Louis game also doesn't count because again...JOKE team.)
The Niners have a running game though, so if they break through it could be 28 points by Smith and another 14-21 by Gore.
Brees, if not contained, could literally hit 7 touchdowns.

Most points? Man, that's a tough one. Since I wager that the Giants/Packers is going to be the biggest shootout-style game, I'll pick that one.

Heh, maybe they should ask John Fox who he'd rather have as QB. ^^;

I keep my radio in my bedroom on ESPN radio all day. I always get a laugh or two listening to die hard fans call in and try to defend their team to no avail (especially Cowboy and Bronco fans)

I dont think that the Broncos will beat the Patriots, but I also said that they had no chance against Pittsburgh. If they didnt have that meltdown in the second quarter against New England in the game in the regular season, that end result could have been totally different.

To be honest with you, I care more about watching a good game. I hate blowouts because it says nothing for the friction of Offense vs Defense.

If the spread of points breaks is too wide, I change the channel.

You know the spread on the game is 13 1/2 for the Pats? I agree though I don't want to see a blowout. If the Broncos lose that's ok its been a great season for us fans anyway, but still to get blown out would really suck.

I am one of the believers that during playoff times, in order to maximize sales and profits we escape the realm of "Professional Sports" and go into "Sports Entertainment" which is kind of depressing and many scandals exist on record to that effect.

I still remember that one year when the WWE got into a scripted argument with the Green Bay Packers. Afterwards it was revealed that a lot was said that wasn't supposed to be said and the NFL got involved and pointed fingers in both direction.

After that happened, I started putting a lot of gambling for Green Bay. I knew that Americans are as much about being entertained as they are into watching sports, hence why something as fake as WWE has over 40% of its fanbase being women and a much higher viewer count than most professional sports in the US.

That year people called me insane, but I won my bets because I knew that there was absolutely no way in Hell that the NFL was going to let an organization like WWE get away with the scripted insult that was blown out of proportion on TV.

That was what lead me to believe that Football in some minor ways (sometimes major ways) are scripted and easy to set up. Its not 100% about pure raw talent. I will say maybe 90/10 or 80/20.

If it airs on TV and people buy SPORTS PACKAGES to watch their "favorite" games on TV. Obviously they want viewer count to increase to make sales, so of course they will plan on making games more interesting.

Did anyone catch that the Steelers v Broncos game drew 42.4 Million viewers? It was the highest rated television show since last years Super Bowl. I can only imagine what Broncos v Patriots is gonna get with Primetime slot and all. Just ridiculous

Smith outduels Brees as 49ers oust Saints
SAN FRANCISCO -- Alex Smith completed a 14-yard touchdown pass to Vernon Davis with nine seconds left just after Drew Brees had put the high-powered Saints ahead, and the resurgent San Francisco 49ers capitalized on five New Orleans turnovers for a thrilling 36-32 playoff victory Saturday.
Smith ran for a 28-yard touchdown with 2:11 left and threw another scoring pass to Davis. Coach Jim Harbaugh's NFC West champions (14-3) proved that a hard-hitting, stingy defense can still win in the modern, wide-open NFL by holding off one of league's most dynamic offenses.
San Francisco triumphed in its first playoff game in nine years, moving within one win of returning to the Super Bowl for the first time since capturing the proud franchise's fifth championship after the 1994 season. The Saints finished 14-4.
Next up for the 49ers is the NFC title game against the winner of Sunday's New York Giants-Green Bay Packers matchup.

Well that was a complete DUD by the Broncos all the way around. Well at least us fans got to see 1 playoff win for the first time since 2005-06 season. Looking forward to seeing how they can improve for next year but its gonna be tough since they have to play the 1st place team schedule. At least other fans of teams in the playoffs might get more coverage instead of hearing about Tebow 24/7 and honestly as a Broncos fan I was getting sick of it myself

Brady puts away Broncos with five first-half TDs
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- Tom Brady's way of dealing with Tebowmania was to silence it with a record-shattering performance.
Brady threw six touchdowns passes, five in the first half, and put the New England Patriots into the AFC championship game after roughing up Tim Tebow and the Denver Broncos 45-10 Saturday night.
The Patriots, winners of nine straight games, will host either Baltimore or Houston next Sunday for a spot in the Super Bowl. Saturday night's romp snapped a three-game postseason losing streak, two of those at Gillette Stadium, and lifted the Patriots to the verge of their fifth Super Bowl appearance in 11 seasons. They've won it three times.
And so ended one of the season's most exciting story lines -- one that caught the nation's attention and began when Denver was 1-4 and made Tebow a starter. The one-time third-stringer promptly won six in a row and seven of eight, with a string of stunning comebacks, and the Broncos ended up backing into the AFC West title.
out of all the plays this was the best. lol
