I. HUD:

HUD Image: [spoiler-box]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v175/1234554321/PSO2UI.png[/spoiler-box]
The PP system from PSP2 returns, in which the PP bar is tied to your character rather than the weapons.
There is an EXP bar above the HP and PP bars.
During mission events, a counter appears on the right hand side of the screen under the minimap. This counter will display various information, such as how far from the objective you are, how many monsters you have to kill, or the health of objectives you must protect.

II. GAMEPLAY:

Like PSO, you can attack unarmed with your bare hands
While not in battle, your weapon will automatically be sheathed. When your weapon is sheathed, you run faster.
You can perform a "Just Attack" if you time your attacks correctly for a boost in damage. This can be achieved by attacking either with a melee weapon, gun, or using technics in a certain rhythm.
You can now jump at will, which is also integrated into battle, such as comboing enemies in the air with a melee weapon, gaining a high ground advantage as a Ranger, or jumping onto a large enemy's back
Each weapon class type has their own method of dodging. Melee weapons use a side-step, which can be used in between normal attacks to extend combos. Gun/Ranged type weapons get a diving roll. Rods/Magic weapons allow you to teleport.
There are 6 elements in the game; Fire, Ice, Lightning, Wind, Darkness, and Light.
Interrupt events:
-Event occurrence locations are not set in stone.
-There are some rare events which can occur.
-Due to the wide range of enemy levels you will encounter, expect drastic changes between difficulty levels.
-Even if you fail an event by not meeting all of its conditions, you will not suffer a penalty.
-You will receive items and so forth for successfully completing an event.
-Multiple interrupt events may occur at the same time
Incapacitation Penalties:
-If you are incapacitated, your individual grade will fall.
-Results are on a character-by-character basis.
-For example, if Mr. A dies, Mr. B's grade will not be affected.
-In short, you don't have to worry about being blamed for giving your party a bad grade!
-If you are incapacitated, you may be revived by a teammate with a Moon Atomizer, revive yourself with a Scape Doll, or teleport back to the Camp Ship
PSE and PSE burst:
-There is a new component known as "photon sensitive effect."
-There is a fixed probability of PSE occurring while you continuously defeat enemies.
-Attack power, drop rates and Meseta drop quantities are all boosted for a fixed period when PSE occurs.
-If you acquire an "evolved drop" (details unknown) from killing an enemy, you get even more boosted attack power, drop rates and Meseta payout.
-If consecutive PSEs occur, you can perform a "PSE burst."
-Bonuses from a PSE burst last for one minute and include even higher drop rates and highly increased number of enemies that appear.
-You can extend the PSE burst's duration by killing more and more enemies.
Occasionally, you will come across ??? weapons like in PSO. These weapons have special abilities and can be unlocked at the Tekker Shop.
Arks Card:
-By exchanging Arks Cards with another player, you will be added to eachother's friend list. You are able to summon a friend's character, which will be controlled by an AI, to help you with a mission. This works much like PSPo2i's support character system.
The Team system returns from PSOBB. This lets you have up to 100 members in one team. You can even input a website of your team here too. There is also a Team Chat function, which allows you to send messages to your entire team.
Matter Board: acts as the item that advances the story. You are basically going around collecting Matters for this board. You do this by achieving certain conditions. These conditions can cover things like, acquiring a specific item, or coming in contact with specific characters, etc. As you achieve these conditions, you collect matters, and new matters open up.
Client Order system returns from PSP2. By completing orders you receive from NPCs, you can get EXP and rewards.

IIa. RANGED WEAPONS:

With Ranged weapons, you may enter a TPS mode (which also gives bonuses to damage depending on which part of the body you shoot enemies, like their head)
Normal shots no longer cost PP
Instead of having different elemental bullets, guns now get Photon Art special attacks that cost PP to use
The shift key for the rifle switches to another set of commands, such as alternate Photon Arts. Some additional info here: http://www.pso-world.com/forums/showpost.php?p=2627555&postcount=128
Known Weapon Types:
-Rifle- Has a 3-shot burst fire for normal attacks. You may equip up to 3 Photon Arts to it, granting a variety of abilities. For example, one will shoot a small explosive or a strong piercing bullet. There is also a PA which allows you to shoot fully automatic for a brief amount of time.
-Launcher Functions much like PSU's Grenade Launcher. Shoots large explosives to create wide-range blasts.
-Gunslash Essentially a Saber and Handgun from previous games combined. The shift key switches into between gun mode and melee mode. Allows you to equip up to 3 Photon Arts to it.

IIb. MELEE WEAPONS:

Melee Photon Arts return and cost PP to use, and they can also be chained one after another
Certain PA's can be charged to do more damage and/or additional hits
Once you unlock certain Hunter skills, there is an additional bar that will appear above your button interface. This bar is called the "Gear gauge". You can fill the Gear Gauge up by hitting enemies with normal attacks. As this bar builds, the more damage your Photon Arts do, and will grant additional effects depending on the weapon you are using.
The shift key for the Sword and Wired Lances is a blocking action
Known Weapon Types:
-Sword- Uses wide swinging arcs for normal attacks. Has several Photon Arts that have the ability to be charged, allowing you to blow enemies away. As the gear gauge fills, your chargeable Photon Arts will charge much faster than usual.
-Wired Lance- One blade in each hand that are both connected to grips by wires. The normal attack allows you to swing the Wired Lances around, causing the blades to extend out and create a large attack range all around you. Has many abilities that allow you to "grab" onto an enemy, and then either throw them or pulls you towards the enemy.
-Partizan- Has quick pokes and wide, sweeping attacks. Also has a unique action called "Twirl" in place of its blocking ability, which allows you to charge the gear gauge manually. After each attack, you may wait a moment for the Partizan to twirl on its own, automatically filling 1/3 of the gear gauge. Once the gear gauge is full, the range of your Photon Arts are extended.
-Gunslash- Essentially a Saber and Handgun from previous games combined. The shift key switches into between gun mode and melee mode. Allows you to equip up to 3 Photon Arts to it.

IIc. MAGIC WEAPONS:

You may now use Rods to perform Melee attacks like what was possible in PSO
You may mix in techs into normal attacks to form a combo (Ex: Normal Attack->Normal Attack->Foie)
You can link three spells at a time to a rod
Known Weapon Types:
-Rod- Has a normal melee attack. You can equip up to 3 technics on the rod to boost their strength.
-Talis- Normal attack allows you to throw a card at an enemy. You may also equip technics to the cards to allow you to cast them from the card. For instance, you can throw a card equipped with Resta at a teammate to heal them, or throw a card equipped with Razonde at a group of enemies to use the AoE spell from a distance.

IId. TECHNIQUES(SPELLS)/PHOTON ARTS:

Disks are used to learn photon arts and techniques
Disks have certain learning requirements, such as Stat requirements
Unlike PSU, there will not be a limit on the number of PAs or techs you can learn
You will be able to return a learned Photon Art/Technique back into disk form
Low-level disks can be bought at shops
High-level disks can be obtained as enemy drop
For Melee and Gun type weapons, you may link up to 3 PAs to the weapon.
For Melee weapons, the PAs you link to a weapon switch in sequential order through a combo. So if you use your first PA, the PA button changes to the 2nd PA, and if you use your 2nd PA your PA button changes to your 3rd PA equipped. Simply rearranging the PAs linked to your weapon will allow you to create your own custom combos!
For Ranged weapons, you may use any 3 of the PAs you have equipped at any time. For example, one PA button would fire a strong piercing bullet. Another PA button would shoot a grenade. Meanwhile, the third PA button would release a burst of fully automatic shots at once.
You can set different melee photon arts to the three parts of a combo.
Combined melee PAs will let you pull of three-part combos. For example, Tornado Break to Spinning Break to Gravity Break. Also, you can perform normal attacks between all of those.
Techniques are chargeable, and may be cast while in the air. When charging a technic, you slowly walk around.
Techniques are able to be cast and charged either from the equipped Rod, or from the Subpallete
Techniques cost PP to cast, but don't require any additional PP when they are charged
Currently, Forces are the only ones capable of casting and charging technics
A Technique's power, range and effect change when charged
Known Techniques/Spells:
-Foie- Fireball spell. Charged version creates a much larger fireball and may set enemies on fire.
-Gifoie- Spiral of fire spins around your character. Charged version extends the range of the attack.
-Rafoie- Create an explosion of fire around a group of enemies. Charge version increases damage radius.
-Resta- Healing spell. Charged version creates a ring around caster that heals all teammates inside of it.
-Zonde- Lightning bolt spell. Charged version creates much larger lightning bolt and stuns enemies.
-Gizonde- Shoots lighting in a line in front of your characters, which may jump between enemies if they are close to each other. Charged version increases the amount of enemies it may hit.
-Razonde- AoE lightning spell, hitting all enemies around caster. Charged version creates a wider range attack.
-Barta- Linear-moving ice spell. Charged version creates a much larger wave which may freeze enemies.
-Gibarta- Launches a spray of snow and ice in a cone shape in front of your character, which may hit multiple enemies. Charged version increases the time that the spell lasts.
-Rabarta- Creates a tornado of ice around your character, hitting all nearby enemies. Charged version increases the diameter of the attack.

III. ENVIRONMENTS/LOBBIES:

Randomly generated fields
Dynamic weather change system
Interrupt events may occur during a mission, such as killing a number of a certain enemy, or to save an ally from an enemy’s trap
Player Rooms:
-Up to 12 players can be in your room at once
-Set objects and furniture in the room, rotate them.
-Each individual player can have up to three interconnected rooms
-A theme can be applied to each room
-Has a Storage Box to store items
Multiparty Areas:
-Certain areas allow for up to 12 people to play together simultaneously.
-However, this doesn't necessarily mean that you are limited to three parties of four people each.
-For example, 12 individual solo players can all gather in these areas.
-It is possible to reorganize your party in a multi-party area.
-For example, if you have three parties of four people each, players from each party can transfer from one party to another.
-At first you can have the following parties: A1 A2 A3 A4 / B1 B2 B3 B4 / C1 C2 C3 C4
-But you can swap players around like so: B1 C2 A3 B4 / C1 A2 B3 C4 / A1 B2 C3 A4
-In multi-party areas, support techniques will only affect your party.
-There are some techniques that have cross-party effects, however.
-In addition to Interrupt Event Multiparty areas, there are entire missions based around the multiparty system
Visual lobbies:
-Event billboards will be in the lobbies.
-There will also be a large screen theater.
-Motion pictures of some sort can be played on the theater screen.
Vision Phone:
-Vision Phones exist everywhere in the lobbies, and they allow players to access Arks Search and My Shop
-Arks Search is the name of player search function where you can search for the Player ID Name. From these search results you can:
* Invite a person to a party.
* Send Mail (Friends Only)
* Blacklist
* Friend Request
* Transfer to their “My Room”
-My Shop allows you to:
* Search for products
* Search for a shop
* Search for your friend’s shop
Shops:
-Weapon Shop: You can buy low level weapons here.
-Disk Shop: You can buy low level disks which will allow you to learn Photon Arts and Techs from this shop.
-Item Shop: You can buy consumable items, such as monomates from this shop.
-Costume Shop: You can buy basic/default clothes at this shop.
-Tekker Shop: You can unlock ??? Weapons here, grind your weapon, and transfer abilities between weapons at this shop.
-Makeup Counter: Allows you to change visual aspects of your character, such as your hairstyle, skin color, or body type. Some of these things will cost Arks Cash to change.
-Medical Center: You can buy drinks which will give your character special effects for a limited time, such as HP regeneration or defense boosts.

IV. ENEMIES:

Most monsters have weakpoints on top of/behind them
Every enemy has an elemental weakness which is displayed under their name. Take advantage of this by using technics or weapons that are imbued with that element.
Many boss and large monsters have body parts that are breakable
You can now throw certain enemies, and certain enemies may pick you up
You can jump on top of certain enemies
Certain types of enemies may attack each other
Rare forms of enemies can spawn while on a mission, called 'boost enemies'. Boost enemies will be stronger and difficult to defeat compared to regular enemies. However, they have a weak point. There’s a core sprouting out of the body which you can see in this screenshot (http://bumped.org/psublog/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/Boost-Enemies-PSO2.jpg). Killing these boost enemies also provides you with better drops.

V. ITEMS/EQUIPMENT:

You have a pallete with 6 slots for weapons to equip, similiar to PSU
Consumable items return
Meseta returns, which allows you to buy items from NPC shops and Player Shops.
Telepipes return from PSO
You may lock weapons into your inventory so that you don't accidentally discard/sell them
Item drops:
-Drop items are decided on a character-by-character basis.
-Each character can get different drops.
Item List:
-Monomates/Dimates/Trimates
-Moon/Star Atomizers
-Telepipes
-Photon Drops/Crystals
Units:
-Units exist in this game.
-They can be equipped to your arms, back and legs.
-Units can be additional costume parts for your character.
-When equipped, units can change certain visuals of your costume.
-Units can boost abilities such as defense and attribute rates.
Mags:
-Mags return to PSO2 similiar to previous games. They are a piece of visual equipment that float behind your character and affect your character's stats. Mags are machine life forms, when you give them items they grow into various forms.
-Mags now have an Energy Bar. This bar will let you know when your mag is hungry. When the bar reaches 0% you won’t see the mag’s full potential. But as you feed it items, it can perform various supporting actions.
-When the mag reaches a certain level it can evolve and perform “automatic actions”. Your mag could be a striking type and will attack the enemies, or with range it could fire bullets, or as a force type mag, it can fire technics.
-You can also set “trigger actions” that lets the mag do things under certain circumstances, like when your HP is low, it will heal. Each individual mag will learn trigger actions as it evolves. Even having the same mag as another player, each could possibly have quite different actions. You can also use items called devices to add actions too.
-Mags once again have a meter to use a Photon Blast. Once the Photon Blast is activated, the Mag will transform into a powerful creature to launch devastating attacks at enemies or give a beneficial effect to your team.
Item lab:
-Customize your items by grinding, increasing attributes, and adding special abilities
-With grinders you can strengthen the power and defense of your items. When you strengthen your weapon you get a +1 grind value by the item’s name. You can increase this value to +10, however, if you fail a grind, the grind’s value goes down. Fortunately your item will not be destroyed.
-You can increase attribute values like (20% Fire) by composing the same weapons. The amount you can increase is influenced by the other weapon’s attribute and attribute values. You will need an item called “Synthesizer” to perform this action.
-When you acquire a weapon or unit, it will sometimes have an ability attached. You can transfer this ability to other weapons and units with the “Add a Special Ability” feature. But be careful, rare special abilities have lower chances of transferring over.

VI. STORY:

PSO2 will not be set in either Ragol or Gurhal
Dark force spreading through the universe
Star Fleet "Oracle" transports the Arks(the players) who fight against the Dark Force

VII. RACES/CLASSES:

There are only 3 playable races(although Sakai has said that it is possible that this number may increase)
The three races are: Humans, Newmans, and Casts
There are 3 playable classes: Hunter, Ranger, and Force
You are not locked into a class when you create your character; you may change your class when you want
In addition to the three main classes, there will also be subclasses to choose from
Human:

Newman:

Cast:
-Can now hover/skate when they are dashing on the ground. You may also select the option in character create for them to dash normally.

Hunter:

VIII. CHARACTER CREATION:
[spoiler-box]
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z89_Tg1ggRg"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z89_Tg1ggRg[/spoiler-box]

In the final version of the game, you will be able to morph the proportions of a Cast body similar to how you can change the proportions of Human/Newman bodies
You will be able to freely choose the color of your character's eyebrows in the final version of the game

IX. CHARACTER GROWTH:

EXP information:
-Whether or not you receive EXP is determined by your range to an enemy.
-If you are within the enemy's range, you will receive EXP.
-If you are out of an enemy's range, you will not receive EXP.
-This may be a counter-measure for multi-party leveling.
Instead of raising a character level, there are class levels that you level up instead. For instance, if you level your Hunter class to 50, your Force and Ranger classes will still be level 1
Players can further enhance their character by selecting skills (For example: Guard > Just Guard > Just Guard Master > Just Guard Stun)
Picture of Hunter skill tree:
[spoiler-box]http://kurushii.tv/PSO2/Graphics/Skill_Trees/PSO2_CBT_HU_Skill_Tree_EN.png[/spoiler-box]
Skill tree information:
-This system is used to learn class skills.
-EXP earned goes toward increasing your class level.
-You accumulate points by leveling up.
-By using these points, you can learn class skills.
-Class skills can only be used on the class you learned them with.
-For example, a skill learned as a Hunter cannot be used by a Force.
-Even if you max your class level, you cannot learn all skills.
-You will have a limited number of points to put toward skills, so individual skill combinations will vary.
-The ability to redo learned skills is under consideration.

X. CHAT:

Various type of chat modes: Public, Private, Party, and Team chat
Cut-in chat returns from PSU
Lobby animations return
Symbol Art returns from PSO2! It's also much more advanced to it's PSO counterpart. Symbol Art allows you to create a picture using more than 200 pieces of art symbols and shapes at the same time. They have preparations to have more than 300 varieties of symbols you can choose from.
Here's are two examples of symbol art pictures that you can make:
[spoiler-box]http://bumped.org/psublog/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/symbol-art-pso2.jpg[/spoiler-box]

XI. GAME DEVELOPMENT:

This games has already went through 2 Alpha tests and a Closed beta period. There are plans for a 2nd closed beta test, and an Open Beta testing period before release.
THE PC VERSION OF THIS GAME WILL BE RELEASED THIS SUMMER.
The Vita version is set to release sometime in 2013. The smart phone version is set to be released in December of 2012.
A character creator demo for this game has been released, which can be downloaded here (http://cc.pso2.jp/PSO2_CC.zip). It also acts as a benchmark test, which will tell you how well the actual game will run on your PC.
THIS GAME IS PC AND PS VITA ONLY.
There is also a very limited version of the game planned for the iPhone/Android. PSO2 may eventually be released for home consoles in the future, but currently there are absolutely NO plans to do so.
Character data is shared between both the PC and Vita versions, and even the smart phone version.
This game will be COMPLETELY free to play; that is, you won't have to pay to download the game or even pay a monthly subscription. SEGA will make all their money through the Arks Cash system.

XII. ARKS CASH & FUN POINTS

Arks Cash is the system used as cash shop which is incorporated into the game, where you can spend real world cash to buy in-game items/services.
There will be a variety of things you can buy with Arks Cash, such as:
-Storage and Skill Tree expansion slots
-Scape Dolls
-Items that can increase the success rate of grinding, drop boosts, and experience rate, which will only work for a limited amount of time.
-Items that affect your character’s appearance, including variations of clothing and accessories and costumes.
-Certain aspects of the Beauty Salon
-Monthly fee which will allow you to: access your "My Room", your player shop, an expanded item storage, and the ability to trade items with other players
Part of the Arks Cash system is "Arks Scratch". It is essentially a lottery/gacha game, where you can obtain certain items. There are two styles of scratch. The cheap version consists of various cash items including clothing and accessories. In the slightly expensive version, it only consists of clothing and accessories.
There will also be another system in place called "FUN points". You can acquire FUN points by:
-Logging into the game(If you log in each consecutive day, you could get bonus points.)
-Sending and Receiving Good Jobs (The amount of FUN you can get in a day is limited)
-When you summon a “Friend Partner” and clear the quest, or someone summons your character.
-Game Ranking rewards
-You also get a small percentage of FUN points when you spend Arks Cash
When you use FUN Points you can spend them on a FREE Gacha called FUN Scratch.
FUN Scratch include:
-Room Items
-Music Disks ( for use in My Room’s Jukebox to change the BGM)
-Tickets for Accessories and hairstyles
-Special Devices for Mags
-Tickets for additional lobby actions
-My Room 3 day usage
-Limited Time Effect Items (These are not as powerful as AC versions)
-Boost Items (These are not as powerful as AC versions)

Well, I wouldn't say it's a "useless post", since I haven't seen anyone else compile this information, and some of this stuff is actually hard to notice or realize. I could see it maybe being a "useless thread", because it could have just been posted in the video thread. I thought it would have been swept away if I did that though.

I actually created this thread to help CUT DOWN on the useless threads..... >.>

I think the bar below the PP bar is EXTREMELY unlikely to be an exp bar given that we see the players defeat monsters with the bar onscreen in realtime and it doesn't change. As for which function it serves we can't say for sure, but I'd put my money on PSO-style MAGs.

I didn't see a charge shot. It looked like a photon art/second function.

At 2:25, the ranger fires a large shot that takes up a big portion of PP. You can see that the player doesn't push any buttons at the bottom, which lead me to believe that they were already holding down the attack button before the clip started. After the button was released the shot was fired, which is why the button didn't flash.

RemiusTA
Apr 29, 2011, 12:04 AM
She did. If you look closely, before she fires the shot, the button on the far right of her action pallete is pressed. The reason she doesn't immediately fire is because she's reloading.

Also, like i pointed out before, throughout the video the Ranger is using a burst-fire weapon (3 bursts before a reload). But towards the end of the video, she shoots off a full-automatic clip for a good minute before she reloads. The icon was different too.

I dont know if it was another weapon or a different customization, but i'd guess and say it's a different weapon.

edit: AH-HA! Perhaps thats what that icon in the middle of her pallete is for? It looks like a "switch" diagram. Perhaps it's to go from burst-fire to full auto...?

I just watched it again... And it still looks like that right button push was for the clip RIGHT before the one where she fires the shot. It just looks confusing because they blended the two clips together to sync up her reloading the gun... I guess I'll just remove the charge shot thing for now.

Yeah, it does. But the weapons do make alot more sense now.

As long as we still have alot of weapon types for each class, it really makes it more exciting. One weapon type having so many uses, i mean. Imagine the changes they could do involving rare weapons.

On the other hand, i dont want to play a game with 4 all-purpose weapons for each class. (Forces excluded -- In PSO, the magic was the real weapon.)

Hmm, it's hard to tell. It looks to me that it might just be the animation for a critical hit, though.

EDIT: Oh wait.. After watching it over a few times, I definitely do see something was thrown across the ground that explodes in the monster's face... It really does look like a grenade. Can't tell where it came from though... It looks like it thrown from behind the Ranger.

Quoting a post I made at PSUPedia with things I noticed related with this video, I figured this thread would be a good place for it.

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/10506136/huntercombothingy.png
Someone on POSW spotted this. This goes up with every attack (normal or "photon art")
A friend of mine and I were watching the videos and presuming this may be a sort of "rage bar" of sorts, builds up as we attack, then each "level" stocked up can do something, we just have no idea what at this point.
To note that this rage bar does not increase if the hunter does the "dash kick" stunner attack (it's seen twice in the video in the same cut) and using the PA after this "dash kick" initiated the first PA (uppercut) instead of the second (tornado slash) which seems to happen after doing a normal attack first. We can speculate that the "dash kick" can be used more like a linker attack for longer stringers and doesn't count as a normal attack for PA strings, not to mention it did half the damage of a normal attack (in the range of 30s instead of 60s like the other normal attacks done in the same cut sequence).

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/10506136/hunterattackskillicons.png
All the icons in this vid for the 3rd button on the middle panel, in the order they seem to usually if not always show up in..
They change depending on what normal attacks are done before the "PA" button is pressed, just like different strings in action games.
The first icon is the uppercut, it's usually always active, it's the "PA if no button is done before" PA.
The second icon is the "tornado slash" we see being done a few times in the video, that button always shows up if the character did only one normal attack and then pressed the PA button.
So on and so forth for the other icons, the same occurs in the air if the monster was launched upwards from the uppercut.
Also to note that the PA button icon also changes when a PA is initiated from either part of the string, meaning that some PAs lead to other PAs in the combo string, probably with some limitation of up to 3 PAs in the combo string or until the PP bar runs out.

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/10506136/morehunterbutans.png
Not sure what 2 or 3 do, but 3 is activated toward the end of the video at the same time Sonic blocks an attack. 2 is active at the end. Also what seems to be the monomate button is lit up throughout most of the video (but not at the beginning)
That same friend and I were speculating that 2 and 3 could be buttons to trigger a shifta and deband powerup, either "tech" or "item" versions (like shiftaride and debandaride).

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/10506136/rangerbuttons.png
Ranger buttons! No idea what 2-4 do, and none of them seem to be dodge roll as no buttons on any bar light up when she rolls.
Speculation: 3 and 4 could be traps/grenades (fire and poison respectively), 2 is probably a defense debuff bullet skill (the icon has a shield, a bullet and a blue arrow pointing downwards).
The button in the middle for the ranger attack palette doesn't seem to be a block button like it is for the hunter, it seems to say "HD" in the corner (just like the hunter HUD had SW for the attack pallete's icons, probably indicating "sword" functions), the "HD" could potentially mean "hold" which that same friend of mine and I speculated could be a sort of "hold in place" function to increase accuracy while not being able to move.
Of course, that same button also seems to have an arrow circling a yellow block, so we can also speculate it could be "cover tactics"?

Sakai needs to release more details at this point, the video shows too much but says so little, which was surely the intent all along, to get the fans analysing this stuff. :P

We can also pretty safely assume that the "PA button" is a "hard attack button" more than anything at this point, it just happens to use up PP when used.

Perhaps, those sword and shield icons (on the 1-0 customization bar) can be activated when that "rage" bar is filled up.

Something tells me the shield icon and him blocking at the same time is just a coincidence. Dont know why though.

DarK-SuN

You probably don't take damage from an attack only if you perfect block it(which is just blocking right when the attack hits) like it was in PSP2. Also, even if you DID have super human reflexes to perfect block every attack, if you were level 1, you wouldn't be able to damage high level monsters, lol.

This probably goes without saying, but judging from the video, it looks like at the very least RAnewearls and HUmarls are in--or would this be a premature assumption?

NINJA EDIT: In the screenshots, we see what appears to be a RAmarl that looks like the video's HUmarl--though her name has changed from "Tails" to "Amy"--using a rifle instead. I find myself wondering if this means that appearances will not be class-restricted like they were in PSO and PSZ, or if it just means something else I didn't notice.

I never got lucky. I just knew the timing. I think they should reward you for having that kind of precision. It should be adjusted for sure, but theres nothing wrong with having a small reward system for something like that

One thing I have noticed is that there is no enemy information window when attacking them. In PSO you would have a frame with the name and attribute:

and in PSU, a name tag at the top with the element, name and level of the enemy:

But nothing in PSO2, so far.

Well, from a storyline perspective, it looks like the progenitor planet will probably be Ragol - as the "confronters" (our characters) are referred to as "Arks", the name of the anti-government rebels of PSO Ep III. So I think it's a safe bet at this point to suggest that Pioneer 2 landed safely and civilization was allowed to flourish on Ragol. Given the level of technological advancement, it seems like PSO2 will take place somewhere between 200 (likely) to 1,000 years (traditional) after PSO.

The trailer mentions a space-fleet "Oracl", and adventures spanning unknown planets. Given the PSO2 logo, I think it's safe to suggest that there will be at least seven unique planets for players to explore, one of which may or may not be Ragol - to kick off the storyline. So "planet hopping" ala PSU is going to be back, and what this means for server structure and meeting up with friends, I don't know. But it doesn't seem to indicate a single-lobby structure like what PSO had. Perhaps it will be more of a mixture, wherein choosing your planet is like choosing difficulty or area - and each of those has their own unified lobby structure so that you can jump into a game/ship in the fleet and request a telepipe to a specific area.

It'll be interesting to find out whether these planets are unique entities in totally new solar systems, or if we'll be revisiting future versions of Gurhal and Algol. There's already links to PSU via PSP2:Infinity (which if anyone can fill it, might help speculation), and given PSO's own unfulfilled links to PS classic - then perhaps some of the planets we'll visit will be old favorites that are "unknown" only to the perspective of the Oracl fleet.

NoiseHERO
Apr 29, 2011, 06:26 PM
Think they said it won't be in ragol, but a connection to PSO is highly probable, it seems like a word confusion whether of not that connection is the arkz or arks...@_@

At this point they may as well connect ALL the games, seeing as how this obviously isn't going the final fantasy route.

Niloklives
Apr 29, 2011, 06:28 PM
In PSP2 and PSP2i you have a single point for your mission counter which will take you to any available mission on one of the 3 planets or Clad6. I wouldn't be surprised if they did something similar. they'll probably have something to reduce crowding though.

Still I'm inclined to think they've learned their lesson.

NoiseHERO
Apr 29, 2011, 06:32 PM
I still want my own space ship 8D, and according to the setting unless we're working with teleporters that MAY be the case...

In PSU all the planets were temporarily close together for some once in a lifetime thing or something right? and the guardians colony was conveniently in the middle with the short distance PPT shuttles.

But in this, I wouldn't be surprised if we had to travel Starfox style, 7 is a lot of planets and it already looks like they're not flying in a small circle like PSU.

The general idea, again though; I just want my own spaceship that doubles as a "My Room" function. 8D

Sinue_v2
Apr 29, 2011, 06:34 PM
Well, it may not start on Ragol, but that doesn't mean that the Arks or Oracl don't originate from there. It seems likely given the technology, style, and the fact that this is PSO2... and PSO was the story of Pioneer 2 and Ragol.

Even if Ragol is never visited, that fact alone would still secure it's spot as being noteworthy in the logo. Then again, the seventh planet could also be a far future "Copto" (highly unlikely) or "Coral", the original planet that Pioneer 2 came from and where Phantasy Star Zero takes place.

I think some people are potentially misinterpreting what the "Arks" are.
Players are the Oracle Fleet, the enemies are the "Arks", specially judging by part in the video that says the "confronters" are the "Arks" and in the background you see several monsters being the focus of the image with a couple of "hunters" trying to fend them off.

Of course, maybe I'm the one misinterpreting what the "Arks" are, but I think at this point we can't ignore the possibility that the "Arks" may be the enemies and not the players, specially since the english used in the trailer is "engrish" and "confronters" may be referring to the antagonists, just like in PSU we have the SEED and in PSO we have Dark Falz and the D-Cell strain infected entities.

3 more new things I noticed from the video:

- At the beginning of the gameplay, they show the HUmar and supposedly the FOmarl...Sonic and Tails respectively in the gameplay, yet Tails has a different costume that looks like the HUnewearl's without the 'tails' and a different, stronger, physical sword than the others.
- The color of the guns used by the characters differs. I noticed a yellow and blue one.
- The very end of the video where it says "infinite adventures"...the green Knuckles character does something to his gun just as the text pops up and shoots an explosive that does 200+ damage to enemies right in from of him and knocks them up. Attachment?

I think it's a grenade launcher,so yeah I'm guessing it's a attachment but we need more info.

We saw the grenade launcher when the HUnewearl apparently used it to deal 34 damage during the "dynamic weather" section. The enemy hit by the grenade didn't get launched. This is different, with a much higher power and launches.

It look's like a missile maybe a rocket launcher? I cant really tell because it's kinda dark and it happens to fast.

It's launched from the gun itself, and a missile/rocket would have an obvious explosion effect.
Rewatched the segment and maybe it's not a grenade launcher? It makes a muffled "foomph" sound and gives the gun quite a bit of recoil.

I just noticed that for the HUmar, his PP goes up by 10 every time he gained a level.

At level 1 his PP is 100, level 3 it's 120, level 5 it's 140.

This wasn't true for the HUnewearl, though, as her PP was constantly at 100 despite being levels 5 and 6 in the trailer.

Maybe this is a racial perk?

Found out what that counter was.

It's the heli's (the thing that crashed is a helicopter; Knuckles yells out, "The heli!") HP bar that goes down as enemies attack throughout the video.

There's another part where the counter shows how many enemies you killed out of 10.

The HUnewearl has the tail things on her shoulders. The RAnewearl has them coming down from her shorts. Also, the RAnewearl is missing the pink left arm collar thingy.

Well, taking that approach, there's no confirmed FOmarl from the video since she never uses anything but guns.

Also, the hair being different between the Newearl in the video and in the high def pics isn't really an issue. They are likely the same character class because they wear the same clothes. You could change hair as far back as PSO.

Why does that "HUmarl" appear in the introduction alongside the FOmar? I bet she is the FOmarl and she is just using guns instead of Techs for whatever reason (maybe because they are still working on them?)

And if I think she is the FOmarl, that Knuckles newman is provably the FOnewm using guns as well.

Wayu
Apr 30, 2011, 12:59 PM
The introduction Tails character is a FOmarl. In the trailer, since they don't want to showcase the Force gameplay just yet, they set her as a HUmarl, who uses only a physical sword and has the same get-up as the HUnewearl.

The Knuckles Newman is a RAnewm for the same reasons, and only ever uses that rifle.

In the introduction there wasn't a FOnewm, only a FOmarl.

Concerning that mysterious yellow button for the ranger:

http://i569.photobucket.com/albums/ss135/iRathiest/Screenshot2011-04-30at75143PM.png

I believe that it changes the action palette by swapping the buttons on the left and right...

http://i569.photobucket.com/albums/ss135/iRathiest/Screenshot2011-04-30at75513PM.png

... for these two. The button on the left looks like it could be that rocket launcher. The button on the right shows what appears to be a hail of bullets, which is perhaps the fully automatic attack. I presume that the dark blue buttons on the action palette are the 3 PAs for the rifle...

There seems to be some form of lock-on, although it's not auto, as shown when the RAnewearl goes full auto on the enemy in the air near the end of the video (when they were showcasing the explosives).

My guess is that there is a manual aiming system interchangeable with a lock-on system.

Yes, my first impression was "Vanquish easy mode" because it looked like a similar autoaim. So it can be perfectly played with a controller, but, that action palette and that central button makes me think this is a mouse button layout.

My guess is that they've added that one feature from PSP2, where you could make preset messages that would activate if a condition is met. For instance, a couple that where in PSP2 are: A teamate heals you, a monster deals heavy damage to you, and a person enters the room.

It was a nice touch, but dear god you could be annoying if you set all of them the same. Especially since there was an option to set a message when an enemy does light damage to you...

It will go from alpha, beta, and possibly demo.

PSU had a demo, and so did the PSP series. And I think PSO had one too. Going from this, a demo or even a free trial would eventually turn up.

Sorry if I'm asking in the wrong place, but around how much do you speculate the monthly fee for this would be? Also, if there is a monthly fee, do you still have to buy the game?

Anyway, as for a monthly fee, we don't even know if there will be one yet, although it is likely. It'll probably be somewhere within the $9-$15 range. For the actual copy of the game... Again, we don't know. It could be a free client to download, or they could sell hard copies. Obviously if there is no monthly fee, you'll have to buy the game. Although there isn't any evidence toward this, right now, I'm thinking that you'll have to buy the game and pay a monthly fee like PSU did...

For all we really know, though, they could go with an entirely different payment system. For instance, paying for a period of time, such as 100 hours, then you won't have to pay again until you've played for that amount of time.

Anyway, I guess we'll just have to wait a few months as they release more info.

Highly doubtful they'll do a pay-by-time method. They'll never get paid.

It takes a very long time for a usual person to log 100 hours in a game. I have games for about a year that i used to play all the time that i barely have more than 60 hours on. And in the event the time bought is too small, people will become discouraged from playing because having fun is too expensive.

Okay, this is a bit speculative, but did anyone else gather from the trailer that accuracy, in its typical form, doesn't seem to be returning? I never saw a character "miss" during gameplay. And if the observations about PAs is correct, what are essentially heavy attacks cost PP and don't need to be less accurate.

I hope I'm right about this, because I have always maintained that "missing an attack I connected with and getting hit through basically no fault of my own and making the game frustratingly pseudo-difficult" is not something I need in an action RPG.

Hmm... depends... Enemies that jump all over are annoying. If they just do short side/back hops that make them tougher to line up with large weapons, maybe... but if they're dodging fast stuff like daggers then no.

RemiusTA
May 9, 2011, 02:32 PM
Players can dodge roll attacks that clearly pass straight through them. I wouldn't be surprised if monsters could do this.

Malicord
May 10, 2011, 05:39 PM
I'm expecting things like the "gibbons" will be annoying, but I doubt they'll get an invulnerability window like players do when rolling. I think the only reason players do is so that larger monsters won't be impossible to dodge without actually sheathing your weapon and running. It's quite possible that I'm wrong though, as I beleive I saw a spined wolf of some sort jump well over everyones heads. But perhaps a jump attack would work.

At any rate, I don't think it'll be too much of an issue.

RemiusTA
May 10, 2011, 05:50 PM
Honestly, i hope the rolling on this game has no invincibility period. It should just help you EVADE attacks, not tank them risk free.

Same with guarding. I really hope Perfect Guard doesn't exist, and if it does, it shouldn't completely negate damage. Perhaps cut it by 75% or something, but just because you KNEW a giant dragon was going to charge you and hit you at an exact point doesn't mean you should be able to just shrug it off. That makes no sense.

Also, just because something can damage you does not mean you should be able to block it. IIRC you could even block Technics in PSP2...ANYTHING that could damage you, you could perfect block. Final Boss desperation attacks, everything.

In almost any fight, you should be encouraged to just flat out not get hit. It'd make battles much more interesting. Dodge when you should dodge, block when you should block.

Malicord
May 10, 2011, 07:46 PM
I see your point. I've never played PSP2, so I didn't know it was so rigged. If there is perfectly-timed blocks/rolls, hopefully they won't apply to everything, and won't make you invincible, simply reduce it.

And the screenshots, it seems people were shocked when they saw it. The impression gave off this “airy feeling” or “realistic” quality. Even though many of our staff members weren’t from the PSO era, many of the visual elements are different from Gurhal. The screenshots were to give off the impression of a new, PSO-like game. We wanted viewers to feel “adventure” and if you saw the promo video and you felt that, then our goal has succeeded.

I'd have to find one he hasn't already scaled and claimed for himself first. He's already taken Mt. Everest for christs sake.

Maybe i should one-up him and take it to the dark side of the moon. Lets hope he hasn't learned to survive in a vacuum yet.

Is every single topic derailing right now? This may be a PSO-World 1st!

*cough*

Has there actually ever been ANYTHING productive discussed 1 week after we got the alpha video?

(This section really should have just been temporarily locked till the next bit of useful info came out.)

Though I guess that would have just made modding harder if it got pushed to other forum sections.

I enjoyed it, but it never got anywhere near PSO status until like a year later when i finally went online and realized the game did not suck.

One of the biggest "OOOOOOOOHHHHHHHH" moments in gaming for me...trumped only by moment i finally figured out how to pass that DAMMED spinning barrel in Sonic the Hedgehog 3's Carnival Night Zone when i was in elementary school. It tortured me forever.

YouTube - ‪Sonic 3 - Carnival Night 2: Spinning cylinder/barrel solution‬‏ (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=39HwCcwzbmY)

OMG YES, props for remembering that. That part drove me crazy back then, lol.

One thing always I hated about classic side-scrolling sonic's is that the levels were actually long...so once you get stuck at that one place...you get pwnd by the time limits...

Where tails finds the time to play game gear is beyond me. ]:

Yes of course the infallible and totally perfect Fuzzy-Logik figured out the barrel puzzle when he was 6 on the first playthrough immediately.

He also hit puberty at 9 and had his first threesome with two models at 14. He's also a billionaire, and is currently dating Adriana Lima, but he has Jessica Alba on the side. Did i mention he graduated top 3% from Harvard, and is currently rewriting our books on quantum physics? All of us really should use him as an example. He's so amazing.

Not like it's nowhere near close to impossible to figure it out at a young age on the first go.

I'm always amazed by the amount of people who said they got stuck on the barrel part, I did jump on it a few times I'll admit but a minute or so later I tried out pushing up and down, I was like 4 or 5 years old at the time as well?

It wasn't what was said so much as the person who said it, Vashyron.

It gets old after a while.

I'll try to tone it down around you, but it isn't easy when you are this fantastic.

I see this forum area hasn't improved much these past three weeks. ^^;

Flipped back a few pages; no new info since the "OMG NEW VIDEO" incident?

Nope, I'm afraid not. :( I'd just wait a couple more weeks when E3 starts up.

Tomorrow 11am it gets started, but the 7th is when most of the "Bigs" reveal the surprises. (I just want to see the Cafe)

Hulu has a live G4 E3 stream: http://www.hulu.com/live
