Anyone got some information to share about this build? Am I missing anything important, or forgetting about certain key factors in power/usage?

Haha, i was in the middle of editting my post while you were posting that. I had figured many havent had an account so i linked to each part. That should livin it up abit ;D

That tower case seems nice, actually fits into what i'd like and its 5$ cheaper xD. much fan space, empty I/O slot, 7 PCI slots. and looks pretty nice. cant seem to find the size though

lol, we picked the same MoBo, yours is a much more realistic build then mine, but in your case, i'd get 1866 MHz RAM as that board supports it, even if you have to go with less RAM, it'll make upgrading in the future a little nicer+^_^+

It's a good starting build, but what exactly are you going to be using it for? If its for day to day use with some light gaming then I would say its good to go. If you plan on gaming quite a bit with it I would make a few suggestions.

Case: The case is gonna be too small for when you want to expand later on with fans, new vid card, more drive bays etc. Best to just get a good size case with lots of options for when you want to upgrade later

Processor: Going with an i5-2400 is probably not the most cost effective purchase. I know the i7-2600k is more expensive. but for the performance vs the i5 its more bang for the buck sor:hands down.

Hard Drive: Probably should be a bit bigger however its not necessary.

Video Card: Again not sure if you're using it for gaming or not but if so don't even bother with DDR3 vid cards. Best to get GDDR3 cards since they output more shaders, etc. DDR3 would struggle with even some of the 1-2+ year older games. Lets put it this way...even the 10yr old 360 has a GDDR3 video card processor in it.

Best advice when building a PC is to not cut corners when making one. The power supply should be just fine but having a real good case is more important than people give it. For airflow to keep components inside cool, future expansion, noise reduction, cable management, etc. are all pretty important to having a well ran PC.

Now if you are within your budget then go for it b/c its not a bad build, but the only thing I would really suggest is getting a more high quality PC case.

Hope this helps. I'm sure other people will comment and help ya out also

Thanks :D I've actually been wondering about the case does it really matter where the PSU sits? top/bottom, what would be a good size suggestion?

And it's mostly for gaming, but all in all i want something stable(and fair priced) that can handle casual playing of skyrim, minecraft, d3, etc. Also i have a thing for older games, "welcome the new with open arms, but treat the old as equally" however many newer PC's dont quite follow that motto.
This game for instance (the guys playing it on an older PC just fine)

Also sidenote, i feel if in the future i upgrade piece by piece, i'll eventually have a 2nd PC, which could be handy.

Nah it really doesn't matter where the PSU sits its just that most cases now have the bottom setup instead. Again for gaming purposes I would just get a GDDR3 vid card and bypass the DDR3 card.

also, avoid zotac, i mean i know there are people that are quite satisfied with them, but i hear they have the most horrendous customer service if something goes wrong, better to stick with an asus, evga, gigabyte vid card imo+^_^+ again, only what i heard, but when enough people complain then something must be wrong+^_^+

Thanks for the tip. i'll try giving a peek into anything else xD

hows this look?

Newegg dont seem to have much for GDDR3

better+^_^+ but if you can manage, the best card to run PSO2 at highest possible settings is the one i posted, or maybe this one as it's cheaper http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130770
i know it's more then twice what you wanna spend, but it'll live longer+^_^+ anything more is overkill for PSO2, unless you want surround gaming or you like playing heavy hitting games that just came out+^_^+

I'll actually consider that it's got a cheap price, with nice specs and it isnt Amd/ati nor Zotac.

One thing im curious about with ram is What should i look for in Cas?

there i updated the list above and [/s]'d the old and *'d the new.

the ram i picked out is: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231460

the price got jacked xD

well, PSO2 is optimized for Nvidia and therefore gets a slight performance boost over ATI on Nvidia chipsets+^_^+

Yeah that's good starter vid card. Then later on when you want to get a much better one you'll be able to.

Here is my current build

Case:

Mobo:

PSU

Video Card
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127599
Note: I have 2x Geforce 560 ti cards but waiting for my final sim racing build before I put them in along with my 3rd monitor. In no rush to use them right now

Cooling:
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835181017&Tpk=Corsair%20h100

And then the usual components
1gb HDD and 360gb HDD
8gb DDR3 1600
3x 24" Monitors (only using 1 right now until i have the racing sim rig setup properly. Stupid cockpits are expensive so still shopping around)

Your Processor being an Intel will probably be just as good if not a little better than the AMD processor I have. i7 is still one of the best on the market for sure no matter if its the sandy bridge or new ivy bridge models.

xD i still need to try finding out where i gotta go to opt in for pso2, and to download it ._.

3x 24" Monitors (only using 1 right now until i have the racing sim rig setup properly. Stupid cockpits are expensive so still shopping around)

That sounds like it'll look awesome once its complete xD

Now that i got this all setup i gotta get to making changes to my resume before tuesday lol Thanks for the help, ofcourse i still got more questions and ofcourse feedback i'd like to hear.

Questions:
Whats Cas? On the RAM
and uhm... Do i need to look for a heatsink?

I would suggest against the "new" RAM you picked out (the GSkill). The tech support guys at Intel believe that is what caused my month long issue with my i5 processor. The RAM was supposedly incompatible with the processor, resulting in an early processor death.

Here is a reference page: http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/gaming/gaming-computers/core-i7-memory-suppliers-datasheet.html?wapkw=memory+processor+compatibilit y

If you feel like saving money, a motherboard for half the cost would probably work fine. Also if you don't feel like spending the extra $ on an i7, try a i5 2500.

Heatsink+fan comes with the processor. CAS is yet another way to measure speed.

i could try getting this 8) http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131817

lol jk. I cant understand that chart really :<
I'll try looking at some other motherboards though
i'd like one with a bit more PCI slots.

and thanks for the PSO2 links :D

Actually, looking at the chart, it does appear your GSkill RAM is on there with your processor.

May I ask why the need for extra PCI slots? Video card x2 (in case of future upgrade), possibly audio card, and?

Meyfei

Not sure really. but a need might come up in the future for one
Edit: when checking Cas whats best? high numbers or low ones?
