I've had the same issue with other PC games and it was normally either the Graphics card driver or Direct x, in a worse case senerio it could be a faulty graphics card.

That's the name.

Update: Yup the Shaders on there are 2.0 I believe you need 3.0 to make that error go away also it uses DirectX 9 which the game requires DirectX 10.

The game actually only requires 9. If it required 10 it wouldn't work on XP.

On Vista and newer, it still uses DirectX 9 too.

You can use DirectX 10 on xp too.

DirectX doesn't depend on operating system it depends on your Graphics card. You can use DirectX 9 if you want to see black pixels on your clothing.

Okay but if you don't know how to input the graphics card you should get someone who knows how to, to do it for you.

You can use DirectX 10 on xp too.

No you can't, DirectX 10 needs to use the WDDM display model. This is not available on XP.

The only way to use it on XP would be to use emulation libraries that are available. But they aren't as good native implementation because it is 3rd party.

If you want official proof.

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/hh769064(v=vs.85).aspx

Look under what Direct3D version.

Not so official, but just as informative

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_Direct3D#Direct3D_10

There is the line which states.

"Windows XP does not support DirectX 10 and above."

So you are saying that Microsoft, the people who write DirectX are wrong too? Their own references say that any DirectX 10 functionality is only available for Vista and above? So now they are incorrect?

Also, have you ever checked if his computer really is using DirectX 10? The easiest way would be to use DxDiag.

If it is using DirectX 10 or above then it tells you in DxDiag. The DirectX 10 files will exist in System32 (named d3d10.dll, d3d10_1.dll d3d10_1code.dll d3d10core.dll d3d10level9.dll and maybe d3d10ref.dll d3d10sdklayers.dll and d3d10warp.dll).

Or is it the fact that you are confused about the fact that Windows XP can use a DirectX10 capable card with reduced functionality?

My bro is a computer professional I'm sure he knows what he's talking about also that is Direct3D 10 not DirectX 10. They're two different things.

According to that, XP cannot use DirectX10. You're brother may be using what Ana-Chan described above.

Ana-Chan

No they are the same thing. Direct3D is one of the major components of DirectX. This is under the title of DirectX Graphics along with Direct2D and DirectWrite these days, but previously shared that title with DirectDraw. When any graphics card says that it is DirectX version capable, it means that it is capable of hardware support of a specific Direct3D version.

And throwing around things like "xxx is a computer professional" is a lame way of trying to say "I am right" without the need for proof. Hence the reason why I don't even bother with that.

Lostbob117
