I don't know what I'm looking forward to more... this movie, or seeing William Shatner put on a brave face, applaud the movie, then sulk off to some darkened corner and cry to himself over not being in it.

... actually I'm looking forward to Shatner crying more. Fucking payback for Star Trek V, motherfucker.

Otherwise, I'm one of those irredeemable nerds who actually liked the dialog, moral conflicts and politics, and the exploration of high(ish)-minded concepts. The new Star Trek films are good, don't get me wrong, but they're just not Star Trek to me.

That would have made such an amusing teaser poster if the text wasn't there.

Star Trek V
This is the one Star Trek movie in the original series that I don't remember.

This is the one Star Trek movie in the original series that I don't remember.

It's probably your subconscious blocking the trauma. The best scene in it was when Captain Kirk went up to god like a frickin' boss and asked him what the hell he needed a Starship for. But even that was diluted by the fact that Kirk was having an argument with god over his starship. The whole premise was just silly and mentally insulting to religious and irreligious alike.

They probably thought it was a good idea because, hey, at least Kirk has plenty of experience in this realm. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Who_Mourns_for_Adonais%3F)

Isn't the rule of thumb concerning Star Trek movies that the odd-numbered films suck?

Though a few I didn't like, I like the new and the older ones. The reboot catering to become more appealing to everyone else. I blame Michael Bay because pointing fingers to find inner peace is the cool thing to do these days. :-P. Joke aside, I do look forward to the new one. As long as it doesn't hit the TNG era.
