Nope, PSO2 is always online, Much like how PSU Ambitions of Illuminous was also an always online deal at least in 360's case

There is going to be something about an Android and Tablet port but its purely offline and has no online capabilities as far as I know.

The smartphones version is a completely different game though.

Anyway, yeah, PSO2 has no offline, it's online only, but both the client and the online mode are free to play (with some optional paying features).

Nope. Even if you go offline for a split second, all current progress is lost. Better not d/c

Vita version has character creation while offline but past that I'm not sure any part of the game can function without being online.

PSO2's a little different. I've sometimes reset my router randomly, and I've not disconnected from the game. I just have a lag spike and then the game resumes connection.

While it does suck for the game to not have offline play the "always online" mechanic makes client side hacks that were only possible via offline mode impossible otherwise.

Well I've been kicked out of PSO2 while still being connected to the Internet and then immediately logged back into the lobby. I can even tell the people I partied with over IM or voice chat that I d/c'd right as it happens

If you miss PSO, then play PSO. PSO2 is NOT PSO

Does the OP's question warrant the topic stretching to two pages?
I mean really now.

Interesting part about doing that is the mobs can't damage you, but you can move wherever you want.
