Phantasy Star Fashion Contest 2013

[High-class Patrician]

Good afternoon gentlemen.

This is an entirely new fashion contest. It will have different rules and guidelines. Please feel free to participate!

The most fashionable character will be chosen by a panel of real world fashion experts from over a dozen different countries on a bimonthly basis to win:


1000 AC!

We will choose two winners per month!


The winner will be chosen using a complex 30 point system which involves general aesthetics, creativity, uniqueness, color coordination, styling, etc.


Information and Guidelines


• The graphic quality (in-game settings, Photoshop effects, etc.) of your screenshot will be ignored. We believe this is more fair to everyone.

• Any poses or cutesy angles will be ignored. We do not care. In fact, if your pose obstructs the outfit, accessories, styling, etc. you may be deducted points. Idle animations are recommended.

• The background (in-game setting, etc.) of your screenshot will be ignored. We do not care.

• We will not be judging based on sex appeal. Characters who use revealing outfits such as the bikini, towel, etc. will probably not win, unless their use of accessories and styling is superb.

• The release date, rarity, in-game price, etc. of your outfit and styling will not be considered.

• There will be no preference given to female or male characters. It is very unlikely that we will have one gender winning 99% of the time.

• There will be no preference given to "moe", "cute", or "childlike" characters.

• Your screenshot should include a full, clear view of your character. The judge just needs to be able to see what they're judging.

The first cycle of our contest will conclude on Tuesday, April 16.

I think it's okay to create your own contest with different rules and such, but, calling the other topic biased is completely unnecessary, the spotlight is not even the main point of the fashion topic, the spotlight is just an incentive for people to post more and better pictures, I believe.

At risk of sounding ungrateful, I do find the OP's reasonings rather... insulting. I think he and his voting group should get together with the current one, to see the inner workings, before throwing accusations.

Still, I can't say I don't agree with him. Many of the same type of character tend to win fashion threads. I'd like to see if this contest is any different. It'd be great to see more deviant character types in the top ten. Plus, I'd like to see the taste of these judges.

I think a lot about this thread sounds like somebody got mad they didn't win the fashion spotlight in the phashion thread. Things like calling it 2.0 or Ultimate, is something you don't call a thread if you are new and starting a first contest thread. And giving out an AC prize of 1000 AC every two months, instead of 500 AC every month.

Also it is very strange that a first time poster would come and right away start a thread like this with an AC prize. And like said, I personally think there is no reason for two fashion related threads. Because if somebody feels wronged here, they will just go an and create a new one. If, like what Zorafim mentioned, it would be better if the OP came into contact with us, sponsored the fashion spotlight with us and became a judge for us as well. But like this, we will just be stepping on our toes on both sides.

Interesting, I would be really interested in meeting these players, because I love talking about fashion, especially the fashion in the phantasy star games. I also find it interesting that you assume that nobody in the phashion group does any of those things, you do not know any of us, so why dismiss us so fast and our capability of working together?

Also, if all of you are too focused on fashion, I think that hinders your ability to fairly judge a characters appearance, because the fashion you talk about is purely clothing related. So having people that are more open minded and know a thing or two about character design and design in general could be helpful.

We will be distributing 1000 AC prizes on a bimonthly basis over the course of 2013. Including exchange fees, this could amount to several hundred dollars.

Please keep in mind that we are asking for nothing in return. If you aren't happy with the way this contest is being run, participation is obviously not required.

Over the past month, over a dozen people with backgrounds in art and fashion have agreed to help me with this contest. I won't provide specifics on them for privacy reasons. If your suspicions prevent you from wanting to participate, I apologize.

We have nothing against the other contest or its coordinators. The differences between the two contests were outlined for clarity, but those differences did not imply superiority. Sorry for any misunderstanding.

Fashion is subjective. It is impossible to eliminate all bias, because beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

However, with our point system and wide variety of feedback from judges with different backgrounds, I'm hopeful that we can choose some truly awesome winners that really deserve to get noticed and win some prizes!

Well can you elaborate on the 30 point system? I understand not wanting to tell us who your judges are, privacy and all that, but explaining how the system works to everyone doesn't seem too much to ask.

As for the scoring system, the exact weight of certain categories are likely going to be adjusted more before the first cycle of our contest concludes and judging begins.

Wouldn't it be better to get the scoring system down before starting the contest?

Also, I think it might be a good idea to explain how to apply and stuff, as well as the rest of the rules if there are any. You said that certain things can get points deducted, but can you give more examples? How would you judge an outfit that's generally good but has some clipping issues, for instance.

Furthermore I feel casts (using cast parts at very least) should be separate. They get more customization options than the other races, due to have 3 separate parts they can mix and match, as well as a few accessories and "hairstyles" that only they can use.

Hello. Mod person here. Sayara is what im called.
After reading through these 11 glorious pages of textual information Im going to cast my judgement of the following.
1. I have no problem with an outfit coordination type contest. As long as it goes as it goes.
a. I would however like to see this not as frequent as the the other groups spotlight thing considering the intensity of the prize. Personally I don't like the prize scheme for the other group either considering it is not "distinctively noted as" this is a contest.

b. Giving my 2 cents on the idea. I like an idea of fitting a theme for each one of these events maybe you can coordinate between you two groups to have each your own competitions. Like if last month was about Cosplay (and Olaf's thread) or one about romantic date apperence, or this case Coordination of outfit/appereance (which is different to how the Phasion works in that sense as modelling is part of the deal with them too. Almost in a magazine spread type deal.)

2. I DO however have a problem with basing yourself under the idea of being "completely different than the other thread."
a. I DO have a problem with it being entitled the "ULTIMATE edition" as if it were a direct improvement of the original when its /clearly/ an exercise of design element vs an Model type thing

3. To everyone else i DO have a problem with you coming into another persons idea improperly marked for their intentions and go in with arms of rage into them. If you have a concern you want addressed thats what I'm here for. There is no need to get into riots about something like it. Are they upset they didn't get spotlighted? Are they tired of anime majority things? Who knows but thats not something to just slap into their face without any backup information.
a. tl;dr Don't like the idea? Don't post in it. Its an easy process like 1 2 3.

Sorry, but I'm going to make an example of you for future entrants!

Your fourth and fifth pictures are perfect. You didn't really need to include the outdoorsy and dancing screenshots, and I would rather you didn't. The judges simply need to see your character in its entirety.

Sorry for singling you out! Also, using high quality graphics is fine, as long as you know that it won't make any difference in terms of judging.

You're only required to submit one screenshot. However, it does need to show your complete character in its entirety. I would recommend submitting another full body screenshot. Don't worry about reduced graphics quality when zoomed out, because that's not a part of the scoring system. I've added a guideline to the first post on submitting a full, clear screenshot of your character.

Your fourth and fifth pictures are perfect. You didn't really need to include the outdoorsy and dancing screenshots, and I would rather you didn't. The judges simply need to see your character in its entirety.

I find it funny this guy makes a contest for fashion as well and now you all feel liek he is invading your hood or something he clrly laid down his rules and he isn't doing anything as twitted or half twitted from what im seeing.


I have noticed this though it seems the ppl that are insulting him are pretty much people who have good relations here and on the game it's self.

As soon as Red roses posted and did her share of comments im sure now this is being talked about to the rest and now in game as well and now they are bogging it down. Why would it even matter if he thought his contest was better? If you're going to be in charge of something, or start something you would want to take pride and think that your method/contest is better. If you thought that it was worse or lacked any kind of improvement on the previous then there would be no reason to start it, or no reason to advertise it.

Honestly? The breast. So big.

I only say this because i like your character okay. I think you did a really nice job using the ECHO outfit (please tell me it's the ECHO outfit or i'll look so dumm), the scarf is going real nice with it and everything. I really like your char.

I do realise it needs AC to change that but i wanted to give you my opinon because you said it's your first rodeo and seriously? awesome mate. I just acquired the ArabianNight LawrenceArabia thingy skin if you know what i'm talking about. Rerolled my char straight away, everytime i hit a moving button, they just go bounce like my char is going to fly or something. Looks so retarded.
On the other hand i do like big breast ..

Edit : Okay dude i have to tell you. I'm gonna steal your char. Really please don't be mad it's just so in my taste, god .. I will use exactly what you use for an alternative character, if you don't mind. Well i don't think you mind but i wanted to say it cause.. so damn cute omg

I love the bangs of that haircut, but wasn't so confident about the two braided pigtails, until I bought and recolored this dress. Now I like the looks of my character after so many failed looks. Well, I was so eager to start to play back in the day, so I didn't polished every detail as I should have. And we all know differences between character creation and ingame models. With the way I've designed Luna's outfits so far, they (in my opinion) tend to look better in motion, since her hair and parts of her outfit are intended to trail behind her. I also try to keep them sleek and simple, so pieces of the outfit sticking out that clip through weapons and look silly while she's doing Gunner flips are a no-no. Basically, I'm trying to give the impression that Luna is agile and acrobatic on the battlefield.

With the way I've designed Luna's outfits so far, they (in my opinion) tend to look better in motion, since her hair and parts of her outfit are intended to trail behind her. I also try to keep them sleek and simple, so pieces of the outfit sticking out that clip through weapons and look silly while she's doing Gunner flips are a no-no. Basically, I'm trying to give the impression that Luna is agile and acrobatic on the battlefield.

You know, that top would look so much better if it didn't have that one strand of "cloth" covering the "breasts". The way it works now, it looks like you're trying to cover up something that isn't there. And it doesn't flow well with the rest of the top. I know they were trying to be skimpy, but... Hell, the rest of the top looks like plastic anyway. They may as well say you're a barbie doll and be done with it.

Um, just being clear. I'm not critiquing your character at all. Your look is nice. It's just, you know, that one part of that top.

I hate it, too. The Helma body would look so much nicer if not for the character designer trying to make it so shamelessly skimpy. But it's closest to the look I have in mind for Luna. If something better comes along, I will gladly ditch the Helma top.

Fellas, this is from Japan so of course certain outfits are going to be skimpy, distasteful and utterly shameless just be happy you have a variety of parts and clothing to play dress up with instead of having nothing like the males do.

Even though this still seems fishy to me, Sine is correct. Judging these kinds of things takes time, especially with so many entrants like this thread got. There's all kinds of things that could halt judging progress, be it certain judges not having free schedules/not being able to get in contact, someone's PC having issues, or anything. However, it's usually nice to post some sort of progress report if it's taking a while. But, I suppose this fellow doesn't deem it necessary nor courteous to keep anyone in the loop, as it were.
