Yeah, I get that to a degree. It seems to me that if I'm abbreviating it, I'm usually in a place where people know Phantasy Star. I wouldn't go onto IGN boards and start talking about the classic "PS" games. (Or for any other reason. haha)

I use roman numerals both to prevent possible confusion, as well as to remain consistent with the way the titles are officially rendered.

Although, I usually just say Phantasy Star when talking about the first one.

I think it's probably because any of the games can be colloquially referred to as simply "Phantasy Star", so it needs to be distinguished that you're talking about the original.

I mean, I don't call my friend up and say "Hey, get on Steam so we can play Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edtion!"; I just call it "Street Fighter".
