View Full Version : Hindu inspiration inside PSO?

I knew that some of the Mag names sounded like Sanskrit names, but when I investigated (out of curiousity) some Hindu pantheon associations at http://www.gaminggeeks.org/Resources/KateMonk/, I came across a lot of familiar words...

This page in particular: http://www.gaminggeeks.org/Resources/KateMonk/India/Hindu-Gods/index.htm has a lot of familiar Mag and weapon names.

I wonder why they chose to use these names for the evolution of the Mags? Unfortunately, I'm not very familiar with Hinduism...

Edit: (Finally able to verbalize...) I get the feeling that the changing forms of the Mags as it gains levels is related - inspired perhaps - to the changing forms of the Indian deities. Am I off?

Wow, you're right... There's a ton there. Agni, Indra, Varuna, Asparas to name a few. Cool stuff. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

yes, this has been discussed before. they have lots of hindu inspirations. maybe they chose it because there are a lot of options to choose from. a lot of the names are from myths like the ramayana and mahabarata, demons, gods, deites, reincarnations and the vedas, etc. it's funny to me because my brother's name is indra, and my mother's name is surya.

Sorry for the lack of originality, but I had to comment. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif Vulpes commented that maybe the Greek and Norse references were becoming too much of a cliche. Makes sense, given the reoccurences of weapons like 'Ragnarok' and 'Excalibur' in the Final Fantasy series. Hindu names certainly are a more original alternative. But somehow I wonder if there's more to it than that...

na it's okay, there're lots of new people too that would find it interesting. if forum search was working, i'll dig up the thread for you. but so far, judging from all the names in the game, there is no specific naming schemes that i've seen. maybe they chose it because it's more uncommon, less people would have heard of it. to me, those are familiar names because hindu is one of the religions back home, i have parts of family that are hindus and the religion has a lot of influence on our culture.
