View Full Version : So I've been playing PSP and PSP2...

...and I gotta say I'm quite surprised with how much more I like PSZ... even though I've already played out this game severely. Everything from the character design to the weapon usage just feels better in PSZ. This probably isn't worth a thread, but I just wanted to share my sentiments and hear some opinions from other individuals who've played both series. And I'm bored.

Agreed. I feel PSP2 went overboard on the customization of your characters aspect, and I spent way more time than I should have just trying to make my character look good with nearly every weapon I could. In PSz, it's not that hard to mix and match, and play around with certain theme. Also, grinding weapons is MUCH easier here, as I'm sure can be made aware. Also, having to wait until A-Rank armors for 4 slots in PSP2 was annoying, and I wanna say the entire weapon-assigning for classes was, while cool (sword-using FO's HIYAAAAH!!!), also lead to some minor equipment issues, which I cared so little for, I let a hacker hack one of my characters in PSP2 so she could use every weapon, so I wouldn't have to deal with constantly swapping points every which place for every mission I wanted to use specific weapons for.

Simple is always best, imo. There is such a thing as OVERKILL CUSTOMIZING.

Yes, definitely. I remade my first character FOUR times in psp2. I eventually just gave up and imported my psp character equipped with PSO HuCAST armor :3

Best part though is the drop rates lolololo

I dunno if by droprates you mean the good or the bad. Some were pretty good for me, I got two 15* rares from my 2nd S-Rank Orga Anastasis, but I could never find just a simple 10* rare weapon I needed for the rare catalog... :/

I had PSP2 for a while and couldn't get into it in the long run like I did PSZ.

That's more or less what happened to me. PSP2 is ok, but it isn't PSZ. I guess the funny thing is that PSZ is the game that seems to get the bad rap due to the hardware that it's on.

I vastly prefer PSZ, simply because it is more of a direct sequel to PSO. It's that simple for me. I truly loved old school PSO, and PSU never held my attention. I could use a few more rare boss fights and areas, maybe a room to decorate, but I LOVE PSZ, as frustrating as it can be sometimes.

I'm sure I'll laugh once I get deep into PSO2. Phantasy Star Zero will always hold a very special place in my heart. I constantly think about how or when we're going to be able to play the online portion after May. Someone somewhere has GOT to pull through...

Keeping PSZ's online alive after the wifi shutdown isn't going to happen. You need to connect to a Nintendo server to get your DS FC, and you need your FC to play together, barring LOLFree Play, and even that will require its own stringent requirements for its matchmaking purposes. I guarantee no one will put forth any such measure to prevent DS Wifi from fully undoing itself.

PSZ community migrating to PSP2? I'm down for that :D

No, you read the reverse. It's the PSZ community playing PSP2 and going BACK to PSZ because we didn't like it nearly as much. :P

Guess I'm the exception in this thread. Once I moved to PSP2, and especially to Infinity, I couldn't go back to PSZero seriously again. It was just far too clunky and content limited to be something I could sit down and play regularly. The biggest problem with PSP2/i, is that they are extensions on the horrible PSU universe, and I can overlook that for the quality of gameplay it brings to the table.

I liked PSZ story and characters better though psp2 had some likeable character but more drama in the story.
PSZ handling the chaining better I don't know why they made it tougher in psp2. Plus the AI in PSP2 is awful and they chain break too early. =-=

I'll be honest, I've never owned a format for the PSP games and as such, I've never played them. However, on some DS consoles... *glares at the DSi* playing PSZ for any amount of time is painful on the hands, but I've found things have improved a bit when playing on a 3DS - primarily due to the circle pad.

I can appreciate the PSU gameplay - and even recognised that the character animations in PSZ were right out of PSU itself. However, for me, it's PSO on the gamecube that keeps me coming back to it.
