Hey everyone,

I'm following up my screen resolution poll with another computer-related one. This time, I'd like to know what operating system you use.

Since there are so many versions of the different operating systems, I can't fit them all in the poll. Please reply and tell us exactly which one you use.

I use Windows 98 on the family computer, and on my laptop I have a dual boot set up. It uses both Windows XP and Linux Redhat 9.

Mac OS X (10.2.4, to be precise).

I kinda miss OS 7.x and such. Thinking about it brings back warm fuzzy memories of my old Performa 6360.

I'm surprised nobody has voted for Linux yet, I heard that it's really good if you know how to use it...

It is. Like Sean, I use Linux Redhat 9. The Redhat version of Linux is a lot more "Windows-ish" and there is more pointing and clicking. Less typing=happy 2Xtreme.

My computer has Win98, WinXP Pro, and Win2K.

I feel sorry for the people that are stuck with WinME...

Yeah, I know. Weep for Panda. @_@

Seriously, I'm considering either:

A.) Getting Linux, even though I have no idea how to use it, because I can learn! Probably!

or

B.) Digging up my old Windows '98 disks and installing it.

DOS never crashed on me... I miss you, DOS.

Windows 98 is in every way better than Windows ME, ME was only released to make more people want to upgrade to XP in a year or two.

I don't know about Liunux though, I've never used it.

Ohh, I screwed up pretty bad a few days ago. I attempted to create a dual boot system with Windows XP Home and Redhat Linux 8.0, and basically ended up screwing up SOMETHING (in a boot sector, or a partition or something) so that Windows XP wouldn't boot, no matter what I tried. The partition was still there and I was able to access it from Redhat (I've freaking memorized the mounting command now), but somehow, Linux layed t3h smacketh down upon M$ (haha I'm clever) and screwed it up pretty badly.
So I was stuck on Redhat 8.0 for a while, and was forced to learn the sucker quite a bit.

Now that I'm back on Windows XP, well... Let's just say that it's nice to be back on an OS that doesn't force me to type in a long string of commands just to make a freaking desktop shortcut. o_o Not to mention that it didn't support my Audigy 2 soundcard, so I was stuck with silence the entire time, ugh...
Not that Linux is bad; it's an incredibly powerful OS, even moreso if you have programming skills. I originally installed it out of curiousity and because I'm currently majoring in computer science and figured I should learn it eventually, but... Man, what a stressful OS for a beginner. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_lol.gif Time to change my major to basketweaving, I believe.

Anyway, it's so nice to be back on Windows XP...

currently juggling XP Pro and Longhorn Build 4008 ... Longhorn's still way too buggy to run full-time

Anyone who says any Windows owns all should be shot.

Windows 95 - 2 Gig partitions max, constant crashing
Windows 98 - better partitions, still constant crashing
Windows ME - heard terrible things about it, it damaged my friend's hard drive...not cool.
Windows XP - dumb graphics (some you can't turn off), too many annoying personalized menus, and has to do something with EVERY FREAKING CD I PUT IN THE DRIVE! I mean really, I use Nero, not Microsoft crap...
Windows 2000 Pro - Crash Resistant Kernel, still windows though

So in my opinion 2000 Pro is the only good one, and it's what I run. I've gotta re-install Linux soon...
