Stayed up pretty late to catch the reveal stream. After some other games were revealed, such as PersonaQ and Persona 4 Dance (wat), and viewers growing impatient, the teaser trailer was shown.

Seems the series is gonna go back to the dark tone again that was in Persona 2 and 3. A nice change from the "happy happy" tone in Persona 4, in my opinion.

Man, that is a huge assumption based on a single image and one line of context-free text.

I wouldn't call 4 "happy happy". I found it fairly dark with the whole "everyone kinda wants to see you fail" undertone, and I can't wait to see what kinda tone 5 brings.

I rather it be like P2, and less like 3/4, Social Link shenanigans are getting old. Not like I ever care about the characters and being their therapist. I just want THE POWER.

EDIT: Either way I'm glad it's not P4-2 like rumors suggested. That would have been so bad.

That was a hell of a set of announcements.

From Dengeki via duckroll on NeoGAF:

Looks like Dengeki did have some sort of feature on Persona 5 after all. Not a ton of info, but they confirm that the setting of the chairs in the teaser is a highschool classroom. The theme of the game is about the emotion joy of being released after overcoming trials - hence the imagery of chairs and chains. The game will continue to be focused on school juvenile setting of the series, but the tone this time will be completely different.

Edit: Before there are more "Dark Souls!!!" replies, I think I'll clarify:

They say that Persona 5 is a RPG with the message of expressing the emotional catharsis in the shout of joy made after overcoming your trials and finally being set free of your chains. I would say that the theory about it being about pressure and stress from the Japanese school system is probably a very good guess.

Emphasis mine. See, that's the kinda stuff that makes me interested in the Persona series. I know it's pure speculation at this point, but tackling these kinds of issues is one of the big reasons I think the Persona games are so neat.
