Which subclass would you pick for Ranger if you wanted to do the most damage possible?

Hunter

Same for Fighter, Gunner, and Braver. Sub Hunter.

Isn't fighter a subclass?

"Advanced" class, as in it unlocks once you get Hunter (or Braver) to lv30 and complete some Client Orders.

But any class can be used as a main or sub.

I don't understand the skill simulator too much.

Is ability important for rangers? Which is better for pure damage, ability, or R. attack?
Before I put any points into my mag, I want to make sure it will help me the most.

Pure RATK would probably be good.

My friend got a Bieberass Launcher yesterday, so I set his character to Hu/Ra (63/59?) for fun and tried it out.
His rank 13 Cluster Bullet was doing 12k on enemy heads.

Even with the Blue Bouquet Rifle, his character was doing 30k damage rank 16 Diffuse Shell shots on Cradle boss WB'd weak points.
People weren't kidding about it hitting crazy hard.
And this was all with melee luck gear and Hunter main.
Still seems pretty viable.

The link he gave you only has the hunter tree. It's the standard sub hunter tree used for more than half the classes in the game.

Ratk is best for damage. Dex only brings up your minimum damage. It's still not a bad idea to have 30-50 dex for so you can potentially equip things sooner. Although it isn't necessary in the current endgame, we could be seeing some high dex gunslash in the future.

Ranger has a ton of Dex/Abi skills that you can't skip, anyway.

Even with them, depending on your race, you'll still need a bit of dex to equip emperor axeon and katar by level 65/65, and not all of us like waiting until 65/65 to be able to equip things. I enjoy being able to use my Jikomi in the early 40s.
