View Full Version : Thread rating disable

Is there a way to get rid of this? Just asking because I'm sure that ones stuck with a bad rating affect the topic. If not well is there a way to hide it or stop others who don't like a particular person from being able to do damage to a topic like this, you know like an option on creating a topic via permission to set enable/disable topic rating like in YT?

I find it rude actually that when I make something then some creature comes along to stab it like that. Actually to admit, it's unfair.

Downvoted.

But, really, the point of the thread rating system eludes me, because the last thing it does is promote quality threads and shun low-quality ones. In PSO2 General especially, because ratings there mean the following:

1☆ - somebody asked about Asiasoft;
3☆ - Shunka and S-Roll nerf discussion (1☆ coming from Shunka users and 5☆ - from those who hate it, I assume);
5☆ - AIDA's topic.

Stop making bad topics.

Though really, it's not that big a deal. Just someone taking a stab, oh well. Let them flaunt what little power they have.

Well, no wonder you get low ratings, with that attitude.

No, you are asking everyone, since you posted this on a public board where anyone can post at.

its a vbulletin feature that I havent access to alter.
It'd be te admin who can disable that feature. Not members.

Meh, I don't ever see anyone really rate as a regular thing, so the whole stars thing seems worthless and easily abused anyway because just one person can vote. Why does one of my threads in FKL even have 5 stars?

I've never considered the rating system to be at all reliable or indicative of anything except the spite/humor of a couple members, or the preference of a small number of members (maybe 20? 50?) in a particular community that even acknowledge the voting system's existence.

It might trend with thread quality, but not reliably enough to dismiss a thread over.

It's the same reason I ignore karma systems on forums.

Most people I know (i.e. literally everyone I've ever talked to about it) take those kinds of systems with a grain of salt in communities like this, so I wouldn't worry too much about it.

I have literally never even looked at any of the 'thread ratings'. I don't think anyone does. It's just for trolling/humor purposes, more or less. It's not affecting anything.

Did it ever serve any purposes in the past? It seems like it's been a completely superfluous function on this site, making me question its original intent. :/

I did not even notice the rating system until now xD

Then PM them about it. This is a public forum, and if you ask a question, expect some kind of answer.

I see that "based on 1 vote," so perhaps the thread creator voted on their own thread! (which is allowed).

You can only vote one time. It doesn't stop updating after the first vote. Like this thread has many votes and an overall rating combining those for an average.

If i were to take a hunch it probably was a default for vbullietin; some forums use those for whatever reason, but has no function here.

AFAICT it was just a feature forums added around the time this version was released, but either was phased out or people just stopped enabling it when installing their forums because nobody cared. Some forums use it, but it's not especially common anymore.

Makes me feel special regardless of the rating I get when someone does mess with it.

I doubt that you would be able to convence them to change the site alone... You would need to gain support from the members to have a sliver of a chance.
