This is AMAZING!!!! :) It's over 9000 whoppers!!!! :burger:

They are revolutionizing Dragon Ball gaming and adopting the genius Dragon Ball Online
lore and content to expand the series in more creative ways.
This could have it's own PSO sized community.

online HUB.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g4U-5Vqkxxw

Xenoverse looks to combine DBZ with Dragon Ball Online, which is a great thing because
even though DBO doesn't have servers anymore (though Revelations might make private ones),
it holds 5 years worth of Akira Toriyama's new creations and expansion of the Dragon Ball
multiverse.

here is a glimpse at some of the DBO atmosphere:

DBO Opening 1

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zM3Njqnjg6s

DBO Opening 2

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p84nBxAwQOs

Akira Toriyama and Bird Studio worked with NTL for 5 years in creating and designing EVERYTHING, from the story, to
the characters to the lore of DBO, you can say DBO is the true sequel to DBZ,
and Xenoverse is looking to adapt the DBO lore with itself, plus combining social elements
from PSO (that pioneered the online HUB concept on consoles) to create the most incredible
Dragon Ball game ever.

And there are about 4-5 races players can play as and customize.

Xenoverse is going to be the first official fighting game to have female sayians, the
majin race, and more (perhaps Frieza's race too).

Xenoverse could support up to 6 players for matches, maybe it will have a world tournament
event like DBO, but of course Xenoverse style.

Here is a cool preview article

http://www.dealspwn.com/preview-dragon-ball-xenoverse-star-181001

By rigidly following the series story arcs and religiously focusing on the characters, they've never given us the chance to see how we'd fit into their universes. They've got all these cool powers, abilities, weapons and skills, yet we're rarely able to create our own avatar and really become a part of their world.

Dragon Ball Xenoverse is finally going to change all that. Now we're the star of the show.

Dimps have been teasing a mysterious new character for weeks, and finally revealed their identity at Gamescom 2014. The new hero is us, a fully customisable new chararacter who we can design to our specifications.

Character creation appears to be impressively deep, at least considering that it's the first time we've seen it to any great extent in the series. Your first choice comes down to race, which modifies both your basic appearance and your combat role. Earthlings are typical jack-of-all-trades with strong if unremarkable stats in all areas, potent with Ki attacks. Meanwhile Majin are much tougher and resilient with higher base HP statistics, whereas Namekian heroes continually regenerate their lower health pool.

You're then able to set your gender, skin tone, hair style and physical attributes -- height and weight -- which actually factor into gameplay. Bigger and bulkier characters will hit harder and suck up more damage, but naturally move much slower than shorter lithe brawlers. Finally, your special moves can be picked and tinkered with both in terms of type, damage and cosmetic effects. Yes, you can become a Super Saiyan, before you ask.

it's clear that Dimps are using the power of the new-gen systems to great effect, as evidenced by wince-inducing facial animations as characters take a crunching hit, and an impressive level of detail. Havok physics and new Yebis 2-powered lighting make their debut too.

Dragon Ball Xenoverse is slated to release next year, and details are still thin on the ground, but we hope that it will be a breath of fresh air that lets us finally step into the Dragon Ball universe ourselves; not through somebody else's eyes.

They are having a beta test in Japan this month and EU beta test early October. :burger:

Also if you want some basic lore of DBO, to understand how things like Majin race came to be,
and what the future is like, here are some wiki quotes:

The Human Race and Classes

Of the three races, the humans have the longest established culture on Earth, and they're also the most prolific, having spread to all corners of the world, including the Wastelands. As of Age 1000, the human race has become cross-bred with the Saiyan race, and as such, many believe that the race holds a powerful, hidden potential. In Age 820, the remnants of the Frieza Army invaded Earth; the war and environmental destruction has given the human race an intense drive to protect the planet.

You may have also noticed that humans in the Age 1000 are well aware of advanced fighting techniques. This is all thanks to Son Gohan, who published the book "Groundbreaking Science" around Age 800, presumably introducing concepts such as ki control to the general public and ushering in a worldwide revolution in martial arts (details on this aren't completely clear).

Introducing the New Hermits

After Gohan wrote "Groundbreaking Science", which advocated martial arts and increased expectations to use them, many began to call for a revival of the Turtle and Crane Schools. However, the Turtle and Crane Hermits had retired due to old age, and the task of revival was passed on to Kuririn and Tienshinhan.

Krillin founded the New Turtle School. Having fought many battles alongside Saiyans and Namekians, he understood that humans simply couldn't compare to aliens and developed techniques that revolved around working together. Even if they're unable to deal a killing blow to kill their opponent, they can still weaken them, and by combining their efforts with others, would be able to contend with far stronger enemies.

Tienshinhan, on the other hand, came to a different conclusion, believing that it was more important to develop aggressive attacks by controlling ki than it was to provide support. Having witnessed the Genki Dama that Son Goku used to defeat Majin Boo, he realized that it was possible for an individual to defeat even the strongest opponent by raising their power to the limits and gathering tremendous amounts of ki. As such, he developed techniques that revolved around strategically collecting ki and unleashing bursts of intense energy with precise timing.

Founding of the groundbreaking Kikoukenjutsu Sword School

In Gohan's "Groundbreaking Science", he wrote that the Katchin metal (that was used to test the Z-Sword) could, in fact, be cut, which caused many to become interested in learning swordplay. When Trunks and Goten learned about this, they got all fired up and decided that they'd start an awesome sword school of their own. This lead to the founding of the groundbreaking Kikoukenjutsu Sword School. Kikoukenjutsu, or "Spiritual Swordsmanship", revolves around elegant swordplay and infusing blades with ki to overpower opponents.

The Namekian Race and Classes

After the namekian's homeworld, Planet Namek, was destroyed, they migrated to New Namek. However, that was attacked by Miira in Age 853, forcing them to move yet again. They settled on Earth, primarily around "Porunga Rocks", a region that was terraformed to resemble Namek. They now work on behalf of Kami-sama Dende to prevent Miira from causing global destruction.
Unlike other races, namekians are genderless and reproduce asexually.

The Namekian Warriors are warrior-type namekians that follow the teachings of the legendary namekian warrior, Piccolo, and they fall into two categories Makai Warriors and Madou Warriors. Makai Warriors follow Piccolo's teachings, while the Madou Warriors are those who have reinterpreted Piccolo's teachings to develop a new style.

Namekian Dragon Clansmen are the rare namekians born into the Dragon Clan, who have the ability heal others and to create and control shenlongs. The Dende Priests follow the teachings of Kami-sama Dende, who is regarded as the greatest spirtual teacher in Namekian history, and emphasize healing and strengthening their allies. Poko Priests, on the other hand, vomit eggs that hatch into demon shenlongs called Pokopen, which they can control, similar to Piccolo Daimao; these Pokopen include Bongo and Gamelan.

The Majin Race and Classes

After Goku left to train Uub, Mr. Buu and Mr. Satan won the 28th Tenkaichi Budokai by cheating, and remained undefeated through the 29th and 30th. However, after a while, Mr. Buu became envious of the humans and the close relationships they had with their sweethearts. In Age 790, Buu accidentally found and read Mr. Satan's copy of "Bob and Margaret", a controversial adult book, in his library. He began to study it in order to create a "Female Buu" that would be just his type. With the name Buuby in mind, he removed part of his body and molded it into a wife for himself, then finished by hitting her with a Love Beam, causing her to give birth to a "Baby Buu".

http://dragonball.wikia.com/wiki/Miss_Buu
\
From then on the population grew quickly, and, in time, the descendants of Buu were recognized worldwide as the Majin race. They're an optimistic and joyful people who dedicate themselves to making "fun days" for otherse, though they can become dangerous when they're angry or confused. They stand against Miira in order to create a more pleasant Earth.

The majin fall into two basic categories: Daimajin (Large Majin) and Imajin (Strange Majin). The Daimajin are happy and have a natural gift for uplifting the spirits of those around them and are also able to reduce the impact of enemy attacks with their soft bodies. They can become Ultima, musicians who enjoy fighting and rally their friends with songs, or Granma, chefs who torment their enemies with a mischievous and fattening fighting style and use maces that resemble foods.

The Imajin, on the other hand, are majin that at some point experienced the corrupting influence of sin. They're aggressive, and develop fighting techniques capable of really hurting their enemies. They can become Plasmas, who become too fixated on enjoying themselves and taking pleasure in nature; like monks, Plasmas use their drums to draw on the power of nature (like lightning), but can also use the drums to fill their friends with rhythm. The Karmas are majin who have developed a dark side due to past experience with sin, and they dance and wear masks to frighten or entrance their enemies

Makaioshin

corrupted Kaioshin (Supreme Kais) that rule over the Dark Demon Realm

I share this info for those interested in a unique flavor that PSO veterans since Dreamcast
can appreciate (well at least fans of both PSO and DBZ). :)

And I like how they name it DBXV instead of DBZ, this goes to hint
how revolutionary and innovative this is for the franchise itself.

It isn't a RPG dungeon hack or an mmorpg, but for Dragon Ball, it's authentic 3D fighting flavor
is fitting for its style and theme. Plus it seems like it will include PVE content besides PVP.
It might include 2-3 players online co-op, at least for the story missions or some kind of missions.
Local versus is said to be confirmed. With the online HUB, it will connect the community in OUTSTANDING ways, plus with the customization and refreshing story perspective, the old and new can be experienced in exciting, creative and more personalized ways. :)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3lsYlps2C0k

Now with character creation, even the roster itself will go over 9000.
In my opinion, this kind of formula has what it takes to make Dragon Ball games
more popular and fun, with greater possibilities and ways to enjoy it.
Now people can not only play Dragon Ball, they can LIVE Dragon Ball.

An ongoing Xenoverse series makes sense and it's in the right hands, combining the
best gameplay from Budokai and Tenkaichi also. :)

As for Super Sayians, in DBO, Humans (descendants of sayians) could use the dragon balls to become super sayians.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mtbs2tmvCc4

though think they now have two separate races (Human and Sayian) in Xenoverse,
So Humans could have their own power up, and Sayians have, of course Super Sayian.

Oh please. It's like these days people can't be enthusiastic and share bundles of info
on things they are enthusiastic about without being labeled as some employee or
paid mercenary.

I think fans of anything want what they are fans about to succeed
and be liked by everyone that's interested in it and help others discover it sooner,
not for the sake of making money themselves.

Like really, are people so selfish and selfcentered that they think everyone doesn't do anything nice things without profitting from it; without some monetary incentive to make extra effort to inform the community of something they could be excited about and benefit from that information?

most people don't browse and search for all this info , and especially
not in one effecient bundle of sources and information that would take hours to find it all themselves;
past and present information and media.

It's like the only ones that don't get questioned is if like a board moderator posts the scoop instead. Well yes, I haven't posted here for like years, PSO hasn't really come to consoles,
and not interested in Monster Hunter, even if it came to console I use.

but this is something I think some other PSO fans could probably relate to and find valuable
(even though it's a different genre, it does share some design fundamentals that connects
the community aspect with its core gameplay in an immersive, interactive, and customizable way instead of matchmaking lobby screens. kinda of like how PSO reinvented console rpgs and pioneered social ORPGs on console. )

so I shared whatever sources of info I gathered here, so people learn as much as I know
about it to date. I think this could have a lot of loot to obtain to expand the customization. :)

Hey not my fault sega alienated the western console PSO fanbase for so long and dropped the ball with how they handled PSU (well they did screw up the Valkyria Chronicles franchise, among other things, and where's Streets of Rage 4? ). So the Majin race can be any color? Welp, something to look forward to. But why have body types, but no slim Majin?

Saner
Dec 12, 2014, 01:33 PM
So the Majin race can be any color? Welp, something to look forward to. But why have body types, but no slim Majin?

Well it could be among these reasons.

1. They already broke the record of providing the most amount of playable races
in a Dragon Ball game (Dragon Ball Online only had three: Human, Namek and Majin).
Providing lots of customization options for Human, Sayian, Frieza(?), Namek and Majins
would of course set a strict cap on how much customization each race gets, especially in
regards to body customization.

2. It is probably because of Dragon Ball Online (and Dragon Ball Heroes) lore that
male majins are always fat.

3. It could add incentive for more players to play as female Majin, which have slim body.

4. the origins of Majin race had Mr. Buu (fat) and Ms. Buu/Buuby (slim) the foundation of
how the shape of their descendants are based on their gender. It could be a unique trait
that is exclusive to that race, so the developers follow that lore since there are no sources
that have contradicted that fact.

5. even though Buu was known to take different forms, including tall and slim form,
again, reasons 1., 2. and 4. could be strong influences why the Majin race is set to the
standards it has now.

6. people could argue that Majin at least has the benefit of having fat and slim option through
gender choice, while the other races have no choice of being fat at all (from what is seen
currently). So Majin still has some exclusive size advantages exclusive to male majins,
while female majins still provide a slim option.

7. perhaps slim is exclusive to Super Buu due to the nature of their absorption.
Super Buu was Fat Buu + Evil Buu, absorption how it works for a Majin could have different
physical nature than for example breeding new Majins. So the traits that Majin descendants
receive, could be more specific. Also Majin descendants are said to be weaker than
Pure Majin by default, so changing their body mass may not be as simple, unless there are
transformations yet to be invented/discovered that the Majin race can use to go from fat
to slim and vice versa.

8. perhaps to make each Majin gender more unique. And it could also tie into their
natural unique gameplay traits (male majins are slower, female majins are faster.)

Straight from the Majin race example video:

male majins have more HP, lower speed.
female majins have less HP, higher speed.

So those gameplay traits could also factor into the overall standard size for both.

:)

So there are several factors to why the race is designed and set this way.
and I think it does make sense on multiple standpoints. That's not to say they can't
add more options, but I think at least for now, they want each gender to commit to
a specific build for that race, and want that build to reflect upon their body mass.

Yes. :) And here are some translations from recent article. this is the first source that
confirmed an Original Video Anime episode is included (well I think it's included, unless they
put it on the separate disc. Well there was another game that included a full movie, so I'm sure
the OVA is included with the game. OVAs tend to be around 20 minutes in length.)

Raging Blast had really good comboing; looks like we're gonna see more of that in this game. Better than that bullshit we had in Ultimate Tenkaichi. Coin flip fighting is lame. Never do that again.

It isn't an insult, it's actually a compliment considering this has more relatable things to classic PSO veterans like myself. That's why I called this PSO of fighting games because if PSO were a fighting game, it's design would be similiar to how Xenoverse is, with a hub that connects all the pvp content together, and Xenoverse also has PVE content, so it has cooperative values just like how co-op was the center of PSO's multiplayer.

On top of that, Xenoverse has a loot system that is also relatable to PSO/PSU. Xenoverse is less gear dependant than PSO, but like I said it has its differences and similarities. Dragon Ball Xenoverse is really as close to PSO as any fighting game has gotten, and that is a very good thing because a hybrid formula like PSO will greatly benefit Xenoverse and shows this type of formula is not limited to RPGs.

:burger: multiple alien races to play as with vast character creation customization and unique race traits
:burger: immersive city home base where community can socialize, emote and team up. connecting all the content
:burger: rare loot, leveling and usable items
:burger: shopping in the city hub the community shares.
:burger: cooperative missions for multiple players
:burger: story centers on player instead of premade character.

Although this officially has no android race, technically androids are creatable using the
Earthling race (the Earthling buffs also possess advantages that are relatable to androids.

Xenoverse really learns from Phantasy Star Online the right way. Like the original PSO and Episode II, Xenoverse can also be played offline, so fans of one or both types can enjoy this, even long after the servers are down.

it really is amazing the more you play it, and the network test was just a taste of the whole kaboodle. :) It isn't a dungeon hack like PSO, but it doesn't have to be to have lots of relatable qualities. :)

I think the main issue people have is the "Boy who cried wolf" syndrome. It's not this topic, in particular. Just that this forum has seen countless "The New Phantasy Star-like" game topics, and pretty much all of them aren't really like it at all. Or are stretching aspects, that barely make up a smidgen towards the feel of a Phantasy Star Online game, as if they are enough to make it feel close enough to one.

Well as a PSO veteran since Dreamcast, I have every right to compare Dragon Ball Xenoverse to Phantasy Star Online and relate things I like about PSO to it, the similarities are big enough and stand out enough to me to see a resemblance despite the difference in genre.

Of course other veterans may disagree, which is ok, but I'm not wrong to pair the two and I'm sure Xenoverse learned some things from PSO more than any other out there. Yes, the developer has been said to also been inspired by Destiny, but Destiny's design concept is basically a ripoff of PSO, which some PSO fans have proven, so anyone that borrows from Destiny, is also taking notes from PSO as well, since PSO started the basic formulas on consoles.

At the sametime, PSO fans should not look at Xenoverse as a straightforward PSO clone with
DBZ skin. It's more complex than that and has its own differences. However, if there was ever a fighting game that would resemble PSO's principles the most, without entering the dungeon hack genre, it would be Xenoverse. :)

In the previous page I already listed some of the clear and relatable things Xenoverse has
that PSO pioneered, so I really see that as a good thing and a compliment to PSO. I'm not saying PSO fans would enjoy a game like Xenoverse, but PSO fans that would like a DBZ hybrid that borrows some features PSO has, can enjoy something like this as much as PSO, in its
own hybrid style.

So yes at least to me, Xenoverse is the PSO equivalent to a innovative social DBZ fighting game.
With the PSO traits it adopts, Xenoverse is going to have a community and gaming atmosphere
that can be relatable, at least for some PSO veterans that can see it.

http://www.saiyanisland.com/2015/01/dragon-ball-xenoverse-delayed-in-europe-middle-east-and-australasia/

Also in other news, I read that there is a delay, it's coming on the 27th of February, not sure if this also affects all regions, but Japan release is still February 5, and maybe the North America release is the same, but if they want to keep a global release, then maybe all regions get it the 27th.

I'm planning to buy it tomorrow on Steam.

I mean, I'm assuming the demand will be high for it on PS3, so it'll be sold out on that venue. Besides, the more games I can own on Steam, the better (I would get Shovel Knight and Freedom Planet as well, but my budget'll only allow for one or the other; and this sounds like it'll be more enjoyable).

Not to mention that DBZ runs in my childhood (hell, who HASN'T grown up with it?), and a lot of my early OCs were inspired heavily by DBZ, so in a way this is repaying the debt I have toward the franchise.

I figured out to still access the online hosted rooms, just be offline when you launch it, and then after you are in Toki Toki City, log in to your account/connect online and then the Online desks will be usable to search/create rooms for versus/parallel quests. If you just are online, you might not be able to enter single lobby at all, so it's recommended to start the game offline first.

It's very sloppy of them to not have enough servers and room for the multi lobbies to support everyone, but I think they are in the process of getting that fixed.

The game really is tons of fun, and a good way to pass time. I do enjoy it having a character creator, I wouldn't really have gotten it otherwise honestly.

Some of the story battles are a bit crazy with how long they drag on. You'd defeat a set, and think that's it, then suddenly have to do another battle with you at low-ish health.
