This looks like the first true Final Fantasy RPG since Final Fantasy IX (though personally, I liked VIII more than IX.)

Here is a graphics comparison between:

PSP version

PS4/Xbox One version

I'm glad it's moved from portable to next gen consoles, console is better platform for all genres
(wonder why Sega chose portable for Phantasy Star Nova instead of console? Consoles
made Phantasy Star and PSO popular.)

Damn shame it's a shit game

What's really a shame is a lot of people lack good judgement. If people prefer FFXIII or the upcoming FFXV over this, then rpg gamers really don't know right from wrong anymore. :burger:

Wait what? type-0 a shit game?

I don't know or care about the story, but add in the benefit of the doubt that it's a PSP game, and I think it's pretty up there with the best Final Fantasies on gameplay, setting and to-do list alone. @_@

Not helping that FF series is just a bunch of over glamoured mediocre games cept for a 4th of them and a few non-main series games (this game included.)

And since this game never actually came out in english, it's a fair buy even though it's fully fan translated.

It's nice at least someone here knows a good Final Fantasy when they see it. :)

Plus, this version has an easier difficulty mode added (the producer said a lot of people couldn't beat the original because it was too hard to them),
English voiceovers (localized FFs gotta have those),
improved controls
more immersive camera (I don't know how people still complain about the camera, it is much better and easier to handle than Ninja Gaiden. Guess some are too lazy to manually move the camera. If they can play Kingdom Hearts 2, they can play this without fuss about the camera and targeting.)
the multiplayer is cut, but importers noted that's not the reason this rpg is so great.
the multiplayer items are still obtainable in the game through different means.

and of course better graphics with some XV technology added, such as the next gen lighting. :burger:

This really is going to be the definitive version of FF Type-0; this is the best thing that
could have happened to this rpg (aside from a full remake with XV graphics), and I'm sure a lot of FF fans after playing both, will prefer FF Type-0 as their favorite Final Fantasy rpg of the two. And that's worth a second Whopper. :burger:

Before I assume and rant, Saner have you actually played at least the fan-translated Type-0 or anything?

Cause I have so...I have a pretty good basis for why I think it's shit, BS difficult being one reason. Not to mention the awful combat that goes along with said bs difficulty...

NoiseHERO
Oct 25, 2014, 05:12 PM
It was kinda tricky but... I didn't find type-0 hard. <_____>;;

if anything my only gripe is that it was best to level up all the characters, and that could get grindy in the arena. And all the characters have their own learning curves.

I think this should've been the major console FF game, and 13 should've just...

Not exist.

The Walrus
Oct 25, 2014, 06:36 PM
I-I like 13 >.>

Anywoo when I say the difficulty I'm referring to how incredibly glassy all the characters felt, even with armor and stuff on. Like it always felt as though any attack in the game could 2/3 hit kill any character and it was just why. Honestly it was more annoying than hard given the way the combat actually worked...

Type 0 is easy though, you're ideally supposed to be playing defensively in that you learn when an enemies break kill sight comes up, and then remember it for the next 500 times you encounter said enemy. Even without doing that, magic in that game is extraordinarily overpowered. So strong that I completely stopped using it outside of Thunder RF on Rem because it trivialized the game.

There are some characters that have awkward attacks for sight attacks, those ones tend to have options that give them a different kind of edge, like Sice, if used correctly (hard to do she's hard as fuck to master), can rip through a hoard without getting touched if you're using her attacking mobility properly.

The combat really does have a nice amount of depth to it, while remaining simple enough to not be annoying, while also having a huge variety in attacking styles per character to keep things fresh. Though I ultimately end up with a Melee Rem, Cater, Queen, Nine and Jack.

PS: FUCK MACHINA
PPS: Cater, not Cinque, Cinque is 2advanced4mi

I know how it wants me to play. It's why I hate playing it, cause it's awful. The stupid kill sight thing ruins the entire combat system for me.

Also the rest of the stuff doesn't make up for it. At all.

But, whatever, it's my opinion and clearly the majority disagree with it judging by reviews and what I see on forums and shit.

You like FFXIII yet that battle system is more restricting in how to win battles.
Build up meter with RAV fomula, after you break them, juggle them in the air and use COMs to deal the most damage until the meter is empty, repeat.

Not to mention that the FFXIII characters are carbon copies of each other class wise.
A COM plays exactly like every COM, a RAV is like every RAV, and SYN is basically like any SYN.
There are some skill learning differences, but FFXIII ability stat system and overall battle
system is extremely backwards and monotonous compared to the likes of XII and Type-0.
FFXIIIs combat is as linear and strict as its whole design.

At least Type-0 has free movement realtime combat. The kill sight is not hard to learn
and you can still win in various ways with unique selection of characters. Some are
more challenging than others but they all have something different to bring to the combat,
and they are all capable of defeating anything, especially with the nice evade systems,
and other elements. With decent skills you are practically untouchable.

And kill sight timing and learning when enemies are exposed, is not hard to learn.
It's better than just spamming menu commands and eating a huge laser in the face since
there is no free movement controls (FFXIII).

With the new easy difficulty HD is adding, I'm sure people won't need to depend on kill sight
as much since easier difficulties in RPGs tend to have enemies with less HP, so you can
just damage them without needing to master killsight. Plus beating an average boss without using killsight, is still faster than trying to beat something that is just overloaded with HP
and the only way to go high damage is filling up a meter to break their defense.

That's a problem with battle systems like FFXIII, it's just a damage/endurance race, there's no real skill involved. If you just switch to the right paradigms at the right time, it's faceroll easy.

FFType-0 actually makes combat fun, varied and skill based. If FFIX had a realtime battle system, it would be just like this.

Also Type-0 has superior summon system than FFXIII, with fun real-time movement and combat
where positioning and other things play a more natural factor. The first time summons can
be directly controlled like a playable character, not just some menu driven pet/vehicle that fights like a turn based game, or just some cutscene attack.

Well okay we have opinions, but I'm just sharing the other side of the coin. :burger:

You prefer other thing, but that doesn't make Type-0's style bad, just different from your tastes.

The Walrus
Oct 28, 2014, 06:02 PM
We're basically comparing (pseudo real time)turn-based to real-time. Of course they're going to be wildly different in how they work.

Look, I'm not gonna type up some long post like you're fond of doing about why I dislike Type-0.
I think it's shit because it gives me all these options and stuff and yet I still feel railroaded into doing one friggin thing and that pisses me the hell off in this case. This opinion is never going to change, and I'm not going to sugar coat what I think and say "Oh it's not terrible, I just don't like it".

Also I never FFXIII was amazing or anything, I just like it more than Type-0.

This rpg is coming in about 2 weeks, very exciting!! :) Though I still have things to grind like Dragon Ball Xenoverse and I have another great idea for a Dynasty Warriors 8 Empires scenario. Could get those sometime next week, then have some room to play Triple Triad more often in FFXIV.

No its really a joke use when describing people who buy a game regardless if its good or not but ignore the healthy criticizism. I am actually a recovering addict after drinking too much cool-aid when it involved the Mana franchise.

I really hope Square Enix isn't valuing the graphics over story like they did with FF7-X-2.
