wat is the spread needle?

i thought the spread needle was a shot, not a rifle, cause if its a rifle, y is it so good? i think a shot would be better w/paralyze

It fires 5 shots, like a shot. But the animation and speed is that of a rifle.

The Spread Needle is a rifle with a unique attack. What makes it so good is the combination of speed, five target capability, and an Arrest (paralysis) special that is extremely effective even in Ultimate. The problem with shotgun-class weapons, in comparison, is that they're slow and their special attack effectiveness is divided into five bullets (each bullet divides the original chance of success into 1/5 each). Arrest on a Spread Needle is effective like a rifle and isn't divided into five bullets. Each needle has the full chance of success.
