View Full Version : Girl gamers-what do you think?

Prodigy
Mar 8, 2001, 02:57 AM
I know that a large majority of the gaming world consists of nothing but guys. Nothing against all you guys, that's for sure, but what do you all think about girl gamers? Girls who play just as much as you, as dedicated as you. I'm a girl gamer myself, but some guys find it really hard to accept the fact that girls can play as good as guys. Why is that? I don't see any difference. Can you prove me wrong?

Uh...

Hmm...

SC Gals, or Starcraft Gals, a long standing all girl guild for a while(not sure whats up with them anymore.) , was literally a joke. If you ever played a game with them, they demanded the use of hacks simply because they were poor, little, incompetant girls. I got a real kick out it all needless to say...

I don't think girls are any better or worse then men at anything, including gaming. The difference is that there are more boys that play games then girls, and that is all. But for every good guy gamer I can find a comprable girl gamer, and for every poor girl gamer I can find a poor guy gamer.

I also think a few too many girls around here are spending too much time gossiping and pondering instead of gaming. You don't see any "Guy gamers unite!" messages anywhere.

Guy Gamers UNITE!!!!.... hehehe just kidding spy http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/icon_smile.gif hmmm... PSO as a dating
system... ? Spy is right, aside from majority being on the guys side. And physical differences, there isn't much difference.... but if your "Girlfriend" is down to play online "With you", she gets lotso Scooby doo points... there hard to come by.. i can't get my fiancee off quake.. and she's pre-ordered worms world party... hmmm now that i think about it.. you could compare Girl games like rare items in PSO... hard to come by... let's see a duper dupe that... dating twins excluded....

<font face=times new roman color=red>Guy gamers dont have UNITE posts because most everyone is a guy gamer, therefore they are already united. For girl gamers to unite is a rare opportunity. For real girl gamers, not those that just play a little and call themselves gamers. Thats not being a gamer. True girl gamers know what I'm talkin about http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/icon_smile.gif

BTW Prodigy, I'm makin an all girl clan for PSO, interested or nah? WE're just gonna put our name in our guild cards and make roomnames with our clan name, but we can still play with whomever we want. Just and Idea to make things more interesting I think. If not, thats cool too.<center>

Hee hee...guy gamers unite-that's a good one. But I agree with Sciler-most gamers are guys, and so they occupy most of the gaming world. I can tell that you two (Spy and Hunter) aren't like those jerks who put girls down. Your opinions mean a lot to me. Thanks. And Sciler, I'd love to join your group! And I totally agree with you about a true girl gamer. Anyway, some guys find it offensive when they find out they're playing with a girl. Why is that?

Oh yeah? Can you write in the snow... with your URINE?! Erm... gross. They feel threatened that their male virility might be upstaged by a frail little woman. Or that their society, which they envision as being created by males, has been infiltrated by others that want to take their power from them. They don't want you to make more money than them, they're comfotably established in their unequal pay world. Women bear and tend children - they don't go out and hunt for food or kick butt at PSO. When you introduce your estrogen into the game, their world becomes all topsy-turvy and they get anxious and overly defensive. Unfotunately for them, girls can kick butt.

Spy
Mar 9, 2001, 12:23 AM
Prodigy, I don't know why some guys find playing with girls to be offensive, unless most of them are 12 year old boys who haven't hit puberty yet and still find girls to be "gross." I myself find many girls gamers to be a lot of fun to play with.

Pollo - I hear that girls can write in the snow too, it just takes more effort http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/icon_wink.gif

Mar 9, 2001, 01:31 PM
Lol, girls can write in the snow (with effort mind you). You're prolly right, Spy. I've been playing with too many lil kids. =) Anyways, thnx very much for clearing that up for me. It's good to know that there are some guys are accepting girl gamers. Geez, even my parents think I should leave video games to guys! Aah! How unfair! Oh well...I play them anyway. Oh, one more question: do you guys think girl gamers are tomboys? I, for one, am not, but so many ppl consider me one only because I play video games. I don't have to be a tomboy to play video games!

HEy Prodigy! Guess what! SLEET GOT DELETED! YEP! thats like the 4 time too. I think Dark Angel got deleted too. you know that i accept girl gamers cuz i only play with you like every weekend. My new force is level 8 and had a lv 200 pian. but i accidentally changed it to churle the bat thingy. And it wont let em use my pian heart to change it back! I think a main misconception is that girls can't play games as well as guys but I think it is a per captia issue...

You have 10,000 guy gamers and 1,000 girl gamers... of course there are going to be better guy gamers out there cause it is a much bigger pool but on on the whole I think the numbers are the same.

I knew some women who could wipe up the floor with anyone in Tekken 2. They could topple the most elite over and over again... but in tandem I could destroy most hardcore puzzle gaming girls in Bust a Move 4 and Puzzle Fighter.

I don't think it has anything to do with reflexes or aggresivness... just exposure to games and in some part gender association. How many Hello Kitty games you seen marketed to 12 year old boys and how many Beast Machines toys you seen for girls?

eek..! okie this whole post got away from me...

Spy
Mar 9, 2001, 02:19 PM
Hmmm, girl gamers = tomboys... I've never given it much thought, but here's a better question: How many girls think all guy gamers are nerds?

Back to the tomboys, if you're a tomboy because you do more than play make-up and throw imaginary tea parties, then yeah, I would have to so.

I dont see what the big deal is about girl gamers I think if a girl whants to play games go ahead enjoy in fact I've played with a few and I often play whith 1 and her husband and she kicks his ass in alota games I think some girl gamers are better than the guys but there as hard to find as a sonic mag

<font face=times new roman color=red>Well, I will admit overall I'm pretty tomboyish. I dont like to shop, unless its for electronics and whatnot. Im just not very girly, I have times when I do like to dress up and do my hair for a special occasion, but I dont enjoy doing it all the time. Give me my khakis and a tshirt anyday over a dress lol.

BUt also dont misconstrue being tomboy for being manly. I enjoy playing video games and hanging out with the guys, becuase well, guys are more fun, BUT I am definitely a guy lover http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/icon_wink.gif Anyone who's seen my pic can also tell Im not exactly manly looking lol.

And I think I can hold my own on competitive games. I mean DOA2 I can kick some booty with my girl Helana, BUT i probably wouldnt do so well on Tekken, i just dun like Tekken much. Super Puzzled fighter and Bust a Move I love...so you'll have competition there http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/icon_wink.gif And anyone who challenges me to Need for Speed or Test Drive....well...I hope you can admit defeat to a girl http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/icon_wink.gif<center>

I have no problems with girl gamers as one of my two usual PSO partners is a girl. (Level 100 Fomarl). She has a very aggressive style of play that is almost suicidal for a Force character, but I keep an eye out for her life bar and bail her out if need be. This is not to say that she doesn?t hold her end, because she does a very good job covering my Hucast and anyone else we happen to be playing with.

I really don?t care whether a player is male or female persuasion as long as they (in regards to PSO) are a team player, i.e. honorable, don?t loot, don?t steal, and watch each others back.

Personally I find female gamers appealing. To me a female gamer often brings a different aspect to the game that I didn't see or consider before. Obviously this can change drastically on the type of game, but it is really evident in online type games.

There are many female gamers in online games. Granted there is a higher ratio of guys to girls but they still exist. Not all of these female gamers are tomboys either. Now I consider it a plus that some females have some of the same likes as I do, but I don't think that makes them a tomboy. A good friend of mines fianc?e likes action movies and playing video games and such and still behaves in a very feminine manner. This doesn't bother me in the slightest. In fact I wish I knew more girls like her since she is one of the cooler females I know. Throughout my different online gaming experiences I have also met many husband and wife combos. These women obviously enjoy playing games and I wouldn't necessarily call them tomboys either. Some do it to spend more time with their spouse, but others do it because they enjoy it.

To say gaming is simply a guy thing is false. There is a definite female gaming community and it?s growing. I think this is a healthy thing and long overdue. After all, who wants to game with just guys all the time?

As for the guys vs. girls debate, I say it all comes down to personal skill. I don't believe there is any gene that dictates that one is better than the other. It has to be taken on an individual level as I have met players of both sexes who excel and those that fall flat on their face.

As for being intimidated, not at all unless its a female gamer who wants nothing to do with me simply because I'm male. As for why other guys are intimidated, I have no idea. I don't feel that intimidation so I can't answer why.

Whew. Sorry this got a little long winded. Yes I realize I have a HUnewearl for my avatar, but I assure you I am male.

Wow! Thanks so much to everyone who replied! Your opinions really do mean a lot to me.
Aah! Sleet, I'm so sorry to hear your char got erased! But don't worry, I'll help you level up. Didn't I tell you you'd never catch up with me? =P lol j/p I'll see you on later today.
I totally believe that no gender has better skill over the other. Actually, the whole reason I set up this post is to wonder how everyone felt out there. I wanted to be sure that I wasn't just making a bad judgement. Honestly, guys still rule the gaming world, but females are beginning to make their stand. I'm actually going to pursue some kind of career in video games (much to my parent's dismay) and I'm rdy for it.
I've never thought of guys who play games as nerds. To be honest, I've never thought that a guy sitting in front of his t.v. screen COULD be a nerd. Besides, if I consider guys who play games nerds, which I don't, then I'd consider myself one too. So, no, I don't think guys who play video games to be nerds. As for this tomboy thing, I am very interested with my looks. Actually, I do everything a girl does-except I play video games.
Here's a question for you guys: would you admit that your butt was just kicked by a girl? In whatever game you two were playing.
Video games are for both genders. At first, I never understood why girls were put down so much for playing video games. Thanks to all of ya, I have a better understanding.
I'd love to play with you all sometime! I always hang out in Titania. I'm Prodigy (duh!), a FoMarl, and I'm blue-you can't miss me! Let's team up sometime. I look forward to it. I'm reliable and I don't steal-even though I've been stolen from. Argh!
Anyway, this topic is developing into something very interesting and unique. Let's keep it going ok?
Take care! =)

I love getting my ass kicked by ladies. Maybe 'cause I'm a masochist and get some kind of perverted pleasure out of it (kidding). Anyway, I consider myself a geek. What else is there to cover? I think I've already touched on the socio-economic standpoints of gender issues. Sex and child-bearing have also been highlighted. Ever wonder what it would be like to have a fem-dominated army? Amazons... spiffy. Actually, the amazon and sorceress in Diablo II are cool characters to play with. I also thought playing with items that took away from your attributes in Diablo was fun (in the sense that a guy looting your corpse gets totally surprised, and that it added challenge to the game).

Admitting that I got my butt kicked by a girl? Well, I dunno about that because it's never happened. I rarely ever get my ass kicked soo bad in any game that somebody would feel good bragging about it.

But what the hell, I play starcraft:Broodwars, Quake3(DC), and UT. Challege me ladies and find out what happens, or if it's even possible for me to lose, but if [Hell]Spy tells you to "Bow Down" after swallowing 6 rockets don't say I didn't warn you http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/icon_biggrin.gif

And I'll tell you off if you pull that immature masturbatory/symbol chat crap. Bunch of low-life teens that can't control your hormones is what you are. Shame on you. I prefer Girl players. Unfortunately I've only met a few and they are rarely on. I find that girls are more interested in meeting people and having fun. What a concept for an online game! I'm considering a female Chr just to meet people with. My girlfriend, RAcaseal LV 55, thinks this is a good idea, but she's weird like that ;-> You might say "game with her" but were playing in the same physical room, it seems more like PlayStation Doom or somthing with a link cable. She meets people every time she plays, and I think she gets more out of the game for it. She's not as interested in rares, or mags, etc, she takes true advantage to what Yuji Naka, CEO of Sonic Team called "[Dreamcast's] most important feature, the modem" ODCM Issue 11

Pollo, you're really silly! But yes, I will admit that there are some occasions where killing monsters just isn't what I feel like doing at the moment, and I prefer just to hang out for a while. I know that girls really prefer to just talk and goof around, but I will fight. I'm not level 54 for nothing. =P
I'm not saying that you should go boasting around saying, "Yes, my ass was just kicked by a girl!" or something like that. Sheesh, I wouldn't say that myself. But occasions occur when it might happen. Here's an example: my bf and I were playing Bust-A-Groove 2. I dunno, maybe I have more rythym than he does, but I kicked his butt pretty bad. If you've ever played the game, you'll know that you get points for ever correctly inputed command. Anyway, the total score was 55,635 to 23,964. Maybe it's just my judgement...lol. But this happened when we were at our friend's house, who was having a party. Anyway, he got really angry and blamed me for screwing me up. Immature? Prolly. None of his friends seemed to care that I had beaten him-in fact, we had a lil contest. My point for this story? I dunno...it's just one of the many incidents I've encountered. Plz tell me why he's like that.
Oh, and about that 'nerdy' thing, why do you consider yourself one, Pollo? I think that playing video games isn't nerdy at all! It's a hobby. How does that coincide with being a nerd?
Thnx again for all of you who have replied. Hope to hear from you soon!

I'd love to say that my girlfriend whupped my ass at chess, or any other game - just so I can take pride in the fact that I'm totally in love with someone that could be more than my intellectual, or physical equal. Did you miss my diatribe concerning the elevation of the phallus as supreme deity in the modern world? Simply put, he's like that because he has a penis, and he wants to flaunt it and his male superiority over dainty little fragile women.

Speaking of phallus, here's a random "Touch the phallus!" - Khaotika, lvl. 98 RAmar, upon taking the final boss warp to Dark Falz encouraging me to activate the last monolith to finally bring the game to a conclusion.

Anyway, I didn't say that playing video games make people nerdy. I just said that I'm a geek.

From www.dictionary.com (it's amusing, to say the least):

geek (gk) n. Slang
An odd or ridiculous person.
A carnival performer whose show consists of bizarre acts, such as biting the head off a live chicken.

nerd also nurd (n?rd). n. Slang
A person regarded as stupid, inept, or unattractive.
A person who is single-minded or accomplished in scientific pursuits but is felt to be socially inept.

Afterthought: I saw that masturbatory crap again. I told people off. "STFU! Nobody F!#%ing likes you!" I hope those bastards are crying into their pillows now.

hey I love playing games with girls, they're very appealing, and unless they're jerks, they're fun to play with. The only stereotype I believe about girls is that there are just as many types of girls as there are types of guys, but its so much more appealing to play with girls!

But guess what? I'm a guy playing with a female avatar (HUnewerl) and I get asked alot "Hey are you really a girl??" tons of times. Even trhough simple mail. You know the people who ask wish I was, I don't know why the demand to play with girls is there.

... I guess in their (& my) twisted little heads is that it somehow makes up for all the lack of interaction with the opposite sex in real life, that's the only explanation I can think of. or maybe they think they're going to get some tail.

Oh yeah, I'm a whole lot more sympathetic towards women after playing PSO and getting called many degrading terms and people just being rude to me because I am a 'woman'.

As a 'woman' though I won't let myself see myself as a victim.... but there are jerks out there who treat women bad bad bad.

But I still lover playing vid games with women.

Ahh, it's great to be back and posting. =P Anyway, you're right Grinner: females are often criticized and put down. In fact, yesterday I was playing with a good friend of mine and some people joined in. We were about to fight good ol Darky in Vhard mode when one of them asked me, "Prodigy, maybe you should stay behind." When I asked why, he said, "You're the weakest out of us all. Besides, you can't help us. We'll go fight him." Argh! Can you believe that??? How rude! But my friend insisted that I come, mainly because he knows I'm a good player and that if I didn't go, neither would he. Hah! So they left us both behind, and we stayed in the city and talked. Let's just say...they faced a cruel, harsh death(s). HAHA! Shows them. Oops, did I go on mumbling again? Lol my bad. Just had to say that. Anywho, guess I'll post later. Peace outtie!

Gender bias is not relegated to just video games, "We no dunk, but we got good fundamental." http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/icon_wink.gif

Society has traditionally bread women to cook, clean, and take care of the kids. While men are out hunting and gathering the money. Little girls play with toy dolls and tea sets, little boys play with toy guns and video games. Only in the last 15 years or so have traditional gender roles really come under question, and thankfully, the line between a man's role and a woman's role is thinning a bit more every day.

I'm an idealist, see. I believe there should be as few lines drawn as possible. He's not a male gamer, she's not a female gamer, they're gamer's.

One girlfriend I had was a kickass gamer. While she could not defeat me in Quake, she took me to school everytime we played Command and Conquer, or WarCraft. I loved every minute of it.

I'm not looking for a subjugate, I want an equal. No girl since her has held my attention for very long, because of her gaming qualities http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/icon_smile.gif God I miss her... On to the depression thread.

Girl gamers are definately too few, and far between. Here's looking to the future... And hopefull a change to that.

P.S. Mystariana, I have family in Layton. A sister who, despite all my best efforts, is not much of a gamer http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/icon_smile.gif

Hey Guys,

I've been reading this board since day one, so I figured the other day it's time to make an account and start posting my thoughts. Anyway coming from a stand point of a guy that has played many games/online games. I think it's also refreshing to find females playing more games.

Fact..most guys are shocked when they find out that the person they are playing with are really females.

Fact 2.. Most guys want to date a female gamer.

Fact 3.. This is most important guys need to understand that women aren't all the same. When I played EQ there where many women gamers. Most guys wouldn't want to play with them cause they would say they would use there charm etc. to get those hard to get camped items. Meaning they would use the I'm a woman thing as a excuse etc. So I could understand why most guys would act funny- standoffish against female gamer.

There's no excuse for it but when people get burned they never forget. I think the real question here is why aren't there that many female gamers? What turns a female off so much from alot of these games? I'm not talking about games like Tomb Raider etc. Most women I have dated seem to think video games are in the same league as comic's or some kind of kid's toy.

It's like oh, you play video games. I myself would jump at the chance to hook up with a female gamer. So don't get too upset ladies when you run into that tenth thousandth a$$hole from hell. He just doesn't have a clue.

Heh. Guess I should offer my two pennies, since I don't have cents. ^_^

I have nothing against girl gamers. In fact, I encourage them to play! ^_^ My little sister gets A-ratings on that Sonic Adventure 2 demo that came with PSO EASILY, while I struggle to get a C-rating or higher.

And yes, she disses me about it too. And she's only 12! ^_^;;; I dread/look towards the day I buy a VMU for my sister and let her try out PSO... ^_^;;

I generally find female gamers more fun to team up with on PSO. Why? Because they don't go: "ANYONE HAVE S-BEATS? NO? ANYONE HAVE DOUBLE SABER? NO? ANYONE HAVE PAN ARMS?

And ten seconds later, the same question pops out again and again and again... ^_^;;

Instead, girl gamers (well, the ones I've noticed), like to talk and converse! And even during battle! I'll never figure out how... heh. ^_^;; PSO is a lot more fun when all members of the party are talking. My friend, even though she doesn't have a DC keyboard, still manages to actually type out remarks and such. ^_^

Yeah, women have a tendency to be better conversationalists than males. I think it's 'cause males are generally one-track minded. It's amazing how versatile that fixed chat stuff is... "Everybody, I like bonsai trees!" And I did notice that the females have a tendency to keep on chatting through battle... distracting, but funny. Whereas the guys have a tendency to stop everything before they can type something witty to say. I'm not ambidexterous enough to be able to type and fight at the same time, but I try - often resulting in my face being smacked down into the dirt by a dimenian, or something. All this while, I was thinking I was left-brained, too. Blah.

Hee. The most I can manage is use left hand to run circles around the enemies, and type sort of disjointedly with the right. ^_^;;

Then again, sometimes, I let myself get hit by the enemy to knock myself down, and then quickly type something, before saying something back. ^_^;;

The only conclusion I can come to is... is there a person beside the girl gamer who's typiing and conversing while the gamer is fighting? ^_^;;

Heh heh... even better... this Japanese girl gamer, though she couldn't speak English, was using the auto-build sentences severely easily and quickly. ^_^;;

The moment I healed her, the phrase

Thank you
>Iceblink.

pops out immediately! ^_^;; Even with my name! ^_^;;

If anything... I think some girl gamers are much more advanced than we are. ^_^;

Damn, I haven't been on for a while! Thanks for posting your thoughts everyone. It's good to know that not everyone out there are assholes.
LOL! Yeah, girls do talk a lot, but it's true- you do have more fun with a talkative team than one that doesn't. To be honest, I need to talk. Fighting without talking is just SO boring. If I'd do that, then I might as well play offline.
Haha, I guess girls have that special skill for both fighting and talking. It seems as if evolution is taking its toll...lol j/k.
I've been trying to encourage all my girlfriends to play more often. Unfortunately, most of my friends would rather go out on a date. Sorry guys, guess some girls want that material thing. =P
Anyway, I think more people need to start appreciating girl gamers-or at least, repsecting us. I've had too many occurences where I was insulted for my gender. Is it really that hard to accept the fact that gurlz can play too?
I'd give you a recent example, but I dunno, I don't wanna bore you. You guys have to know though, I don't degrade your gender in general, just the simple few that insult me. =P

But I still don't get it: why do a good number of you get so damn offended?? And why do some of you think that we aren't as capable of playing video games???
Oh...I think I asked this question in the beginning of the post...Lol guess I'm still not convinced yet.
Anyway, thanks for helping me out and keeping this post alive. *Sniffle* Wow, 5 pages! I'm so impressed. Lol.
Just to let anyone know, I have a early day Friday, so PSO will be mine for a majority of the day, starting at 11:00a.m. pacific time. If you'd like to play with me, I'll be in Titania Block 5. I usually have pass protected teams, but none of my PSO buddies will be on that early. =P My FoMarl is called Prodigy, I'm level 71, and I'm all blue and white-you can't miss me! Honestly. Stop by and tell me wassup or something. I'd like to meet the ppl I'm conversing with on this post.

After all, I grew up around many females telling me that "video games are a waste of time."

I now own: NES, SNES, N64, Sega CDX, Sega Saturn, Sega Dreamcast, PSX, and PS2. I've been playing since Atari and I currently own near 100 games total. I worked at a video game store for 3 yrs, and I still work at one part time during the holidays. I playw ith mostly males on video games, and I can damn well hold my own in a fighting game, if not beat thier ass. If its a racing game, you will lose, no if ands or buts. Puzzle games, yeah, i like them but only if Im in a calm mood, if Im in a pissy mood you cna bet Im putting in a racing game to blow off some steam. And with PSO, any who have played wiht me know I am a trustworthy and fair player.

If you have a problem with female players, you need to get some help because so help me if we ever meet I will show no mercy and beat you then brag about how you got beat by a girl. Before you can sit there and talk smack, why not try to learn a little bit about your competition ignorant child.

(sorry if I seem a bit pissed, but I DO NOT tolerate that kind of ignorance and flat out disrespect....if you wish to act like a child I cna sure as hell treat you like one, and if you try to claim it was a joke, I will think you are a coward who wont stand behind his words...so if you wish to redeam yourself, you may explain, or you can run along like a dog with this tail between his legs)<center>

Actualy if you think about it he shot himself in the foot. The whole puzzle game thing, if indeed is his view would make the Girls seem smarter looking imho. I mean really games like Quake and such are only games that deal with physical reaction and memorization of boards and items. After time they take NO real talent what so ever, trust me on this..years of PC gameing experiance. One of my toughest opponates in Starcraft was a female, for a long time it bothered me..you know male pride but over time I learned to not be jealous but respect her for choosing a path of activity that Society rejects so many times. I mean is it proper for a young lady to like games and ninja turtles instead of Barbies and House?

HELL YEAH THAT ROCKS!!

Unlike you Troll, oh I mean Nova I provide substance with my post, care to elaborate on what your saying, or you just gonna stay there looking dumb saying "I can prove it" so do it Jr. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/icon_wink.gif

I play games every spare hour of the day. And for nearly a year now, I've been going to gaming parties where I and others play games for around 20 hours straight. Some guys have brought their girl friends along, but it isn't too long before they're bored and giving their guys the I'm bored and I wanna go home look.
So maybe girls dragging their guys away so I don't have anyone kick around, has sort of left me with the feeling that girls and games don't really mix.

Anyway, it seems to me you have never met a girl gamer that I am talking about before.

I know some of us might sound horribly sexist (Me included), but I've had experiences myself. As Pollo said, ever since the dark ages, War has just been one big opportunity to prove one's virility. And, when it comes to us male gamers, gaming IS war. There's a disturbing sense of satisfaction that can only be achieved by whooping ass in a good game. I pride myself on being the Soul Calibur God. I'm undefeated by anyone, can complete the game on the hardest difficulty with straight perfects, and have mastered every character and every move. If someone were to come along and beat me, suffice to say I wouldn't be best pleased. DOA2 however........I've been beaten by girls oh-so-many times on that game......so much, it doesn't hurt. I build a barrier by saying 'Yeah, well I suck at that game anyway. Fancy a few rounds of Soul Calibur?' I can accept girl gamers, although it does come as one hell of a surprise when you lose flawlessly and then realise you were playing a girl. I think victory makes a person feel as though they can dominate the loser. As for me........well, sometimes female domination isn't a bad thing...Damn I forgot what my point was. Anyway, respect to all the female gamers for your effort. Bet you still can't beat me at Soul Calibur, though.

Oh man, I used to be the blasta, rasta, shiznittyassta, master at Virtua Fighter 2. I played it all day on my Saturn destroying all the other local neighborhood kiddies, then took my miz-add skills over to the arcades and quickly began embarrassing anyone who stood in my way. It was so great when I (at the time I was like...12 I think) was sitting there, playing a game by myself and some old homey g wannabe walked up with his friends or his gf and tried to impress them by beating up on a little kid. Then I proceeded to completely decimate this hapless fool causing much laughter directed towards him by his peers and/or significant other. UNTILL. The day will stay burnt into my memory forever as it was, possibly, the point at which my mind snapped. I was completely destroyed by some...some...guy. Just some plain, old, average guy! The same day I was beaten by another guy and then his damned girlfriend! So I belted out a good, "I've had all I can stands, I can'ts stands no more." Then I got all violetn and ended up....just walking out of the arcade, never to return again, a shell of my former self. I recently bought back a Saturn along with VF2 and I actually get beat by the CPU on Easy mode occasionaly. Sigh. VF was once the shrine at which I was worshipped as a God. Now I'm just some damned peasant begging the AI in the game to have mercy on me. Oh why, cruel fate? Damn you! You will rue the day! Alas, I disgress, for on that fateful day a large part of my manhood was removed from me.

Ok, enough already!!

Here are some common things from reality:

1) There is some truth to Heavy Nova's second post (not the first one...that one was just uncalled for): from a lot of experiences, more females (talking quantity, not quality here) tend to be under the type, if they were in an arcade, the "I'm bored, let's go home" over "Hey, let me kick your ass in :insert game here:" Don't take this to extremes and say "Killer B said that all girls tend to be "I'm bored, let's go home" and none of them are "I'm gonna kick your ass at such and such game..."

Trust me, I live with a family of women...I'm probably the anti-sexist, but I'm stating harsh reality.

2) Yes, there are hardcore female gamers. I've met a few online, but I know of none in my area, other than one who opened up a can on my ass a few years back in Mortal Kombat II (St. Louis, MO/Metro East IL, anyone?). Every female in my area is basically either "video games are a waste of time" or just play for about two or three minutes a month.

Ultimately, I have nothing against female gamers. In fact, I just wish there were more of them so my video game/computer game/anime habits don't ruin any more relationships.

So here we go:

- Female gamers exist. Gender is irrelevant regarding the quality of gamers. However, it may be connected to the quantity of gamers, which leads to:

- Video games are male-dominated, not to be sexist or anything, but that's reality. Males are more likely to jump for joy over the release of, say, a new Quake game, Street Fighter game, Final Fantasy game, or Phantasy Star game over females. The harsh reality is that girl gamers are the exception, not the rule. I wish this wasn't so, but it is. There's no denying this as of April 6, 2001...

I happen to know a girl gamer that can put most guy to shame. Some of the games that I have had trouble with, she thought were rediculously easy. Personaly, I have a lot of respect for girl gamers, the fact that they are willing to shed off some of that feminity and get down on a guys level is totally cool to me. Besides, most of the girls I know are gamers, and true ones at that. Best compatition I've ever had, now if I could get them to play fair. They need to be disqualified for kissing during a match, or just plain acting so darn cute.

It's not the kissing part that gets to me, Pollo, it's the fact that that's how they choose to win, and it doesn't work the other way around. If I kiss them then they just kiss back and beat me anyways. Just once I would like to get a good rank when playing Golden Eye deathmatch. Please girls, kiss after the game, not during.

Pollo_loco
Apr 20, 2001, 01:55 AM
Hey, they can win the silly video game with kisses if they want... they'd just better not be teasing. It sucks to be left hanging like that, especially if you're thinking that the sexual olympics are gonna start - those are fun games. Can't have a hard-on for your video game console (and HUnewearls) all the time...

-BK-
Apr 20, 2001, 10:19 AM
Although, I practice abstanence, you make a good point; and I would have to wonder about anybody that would try "stuffing" thier game systems. I'm just a competative kind of person, so I like to win even if it is a silly video game, but when that game ends let the fun ones begin.

Pollo_loco
Apr 20, 2001, 02:39 PM
I did the abstinence thing for a bit. It's not really abstinence if you're letting girls kiss you http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/icon_wink.gif Moderation is the golden path. And it's not hard for males to abstain because females can so easily control the bedroom situation (which is one of the reasons why they rule).
