I figured that with all the class discussions, the classy classless weapon could use its own thread.

One of the strengths of Gunslash is that since it has no class requirements, it can fit well into several different builds. Currently, it seems, the best builds to insert Gunslash usage into, along with appropriate Gunslashes to use in them, are:
---
FI/HU(Limit Breaker/Tank):
•Crafted Sonic Laser (http://pso2.swiki.jp/index.php?%E3%82%BD%E3%83%8B%E3%83%83%E3%82%AF%E3% 83%AC%E3%82%A4%E3%82%B6%E3%83%BC), Last Stand potential grants +14% to all damage at <25% HP, which Limit Breaker automatically fulfills. Crafted because its stats are low otherwise.
•Celesta Laser (http://pso2.swiki.jp/index.php?%E3%82%BB%E3%83%AC%E3%82%B9%E3%82%BF%E3% 83%AC%E3%82%A4%E3%82%B6%E3%83%BC), its unique potential Breath of Life automatically restores 10% HP every five seconds, making it one of the best tanking weapons in the game.
•Ares Buster (http://pso2.swiki.jp/index.php?%E3%82%A2%E3%83%BC%E3%83%AC%E3%82%B9%E3% 83%90%E3%82%B9%E3%82%BF%E3%83%BC). As a 13* it's automatically more powerful than any other Gunslash.
---
RA/HU:
•Celesta Laser (http://pso2.swiki.jp/index.php?%E3%82%BB%E3%83%AC%E3%82%B9%E3%82%BF%E3% 83%AC%E3%82%A4%E3%82%B6%E3%83%BC), its unique potential Breath of Life automatically restores 10% HP every five seconds, making it one of the best tanking weapons in the game.
•Ares Buster (http://pso2.swiki.jp/index.php?%E3%82%A2%E3%83%BC%E3%83%AC%E3%82%B9%E3% 83%90%E3%82%B9%E3%82%BF%E3%83%BC). As a 13* it's automatically more powerful than any other Gunslash.
---
FI/GU(Limit Breaker/Critical/Chain Trigger):
•Crafted Sonic Laser (http://pso2.swiki.jp/index.php?%E3%82%BD%E3%83%8B%E3%83%83%E3%82%AF%E3% 83%AC%E3%82%A4%E3%82%B6%E3%83%BC), Last Stand potential grants +14% to all damage at <25% HP, which Limit Breaker automatically fulfills. Crafted because its stats are low otherwise.
•Crafted Roelia Bellow (http://pso2.swiki.jp/index.php?%E3%83%95%E3%83%AA%E3%82%AE%E3%82%A2%E3% 82%A8%E3%83%B3%E3%83%89), its potential Chain Finale grants a large +20% to Chain Finishes. Crafted since its stats are low otherwise.
•Rebel Cypher (http://pso2.swiki.jp/index.php?%E3%83%AB%E3%83%99%E3%83%AB%E3%82%B5%E3% 82%A4%E3%83%95%E3%82%A1%E3%83%BC), since its potential gives +13% damage to critical hits. Combined with Fighter's Critical Strike skill, critical hits do 28% more damage.
•Ares Buster (http://pso2.swiki.jp/index.php?%E3%82%A2%E3%83%BC%E3%83%AC%E3%82%B9%E3% 83%90%E3%82%B9%E3%82%BF%E3%83%BC). As a 13* it's automatically more powerful than any other Gunslash.
---
FI/BO(Limit Breaker/Critical):
•Crafted Sonic Laser (http://pso2.swiki.jp/index.php?%E3%82%BD%E3%83%8B%E3%83%83%E3%82%AF%E3% 83%AC%E3%82%A4%E3%82%B6%E3%83%BC), Last Stand potential grants +14% to all damage at <25% HP, which Limit Breaker automatically fulfills. Crafted because its stats are low otherwise.
•Queen Vera (http://pso2.swiki.jp/index.php?%E3%82%AF%E3%82%A4%E3%83%BC%E3%83%B3%E3% 83%B4%E3%82%A3%E3%82%A8%E3%83%A9), super high T-Atk makes it an adequate weapon to make use of BO's ability to cast techs.
•Rebel Cypher (http://pso2.swiki.jp/index.php?%E3%83%AB%E3%83%99%E3%83%AB%E3%82%B5%E3% 82%A4%E3%83%95%E3%82%A1%E3%83%BC), since its potential gives +13% damage to critical hits. Combined with Fighter's Critical Strike skill, critical hits do 28% more damage.
•Ares Buster (http://pso2.swiki.jp/index.php?%E3%82%A2%E3%83%BC%E3%83%AC%E3%82%B9%E3% 83%90%E3%82%B9%E3%82%BF%E3%83%BC). As a 13* it's automatically more powerful than any other Gunslash.

Makes three slashes in front of you. A pretty much all-around terrible PA. I can't recommend this PA, ever. Avoid like the plague.

Rapidly stab forward, hitting three times, then finish off with a single shot. Compensates for a very short range by being very fast and quite strong. The bullet has a larger range than the stabs, but does less total damage than the striking portions.

Make an upwards slash that launches enemies into the air, then shoot a strong, exploding bullet at the current target. The slash portion has a small area of effect, but not so small that it's completely unusable in mobbing situations. It's especially effective when combined with Gravity Bomb or Zondeel. Although the slash launches upwards, and the animation of the PA shows your character shooting upwards, the bullet will travel in whichever direction your current target is. The bullet itself is very powerful, and in addition, when it hits its target, it explodes and spreads its damage around wherever it hit in a respectable area of effect.

Addbullet GS? I was avoiding mentioning PA-specific Gunslashes for the time being, since this guide/discussion is more about focusing on GS as a whole. I was planning on including a Photon Art section which would include the PA-specific Gunslashes, however. It's actually next on my list.

Why wouldn't you add the Rebel Cipher to FiHu as well? Crit builds aren't uncommon as a FiHu, especially when it comes to species weapons that need crafting.

...What kind of bullcrap is that? Slash Rave has a higher rating than Addition bullet in ranged damage? Serpent Air has a higher rating than Rage Dance in speed and striking damage? Thriller Explosion has 3/5 in MT damage? Addition Bullet has 2/5 in ST damage?

I have enormous doubts you use gunblades at all.

Maenara
Dec 22, 2014, 06:45 AM
Estimates are estimates. It's absurdly challenging to accurately represent each PA using such a rating system. In any case:
•I've had the final hit of Slash Rave do 450k on Dark Vibrace. I've never seen anyone pull off a 100k+ with a single shot with Addition Bullet, hence the rating. Show me otherwise and I'll gladly change it.
•Serpent Air is the single best single-target DPS Gunslash has to offer. It hits twice as many times as Rage Dance in the same amount of time, and in my experience, each hit of SA does only slightly less that RD. You're right about the speed though, I forgot that they removed the delay between the striking and shooting portions of RD.
•I legitimately made a mistake on the Thrillsplosion multi-target damage. I didn't intend to make that a 3.
•Did they buff the melee portion of Addition Bullet? Last I checked that was total shit.

Some parts make me curious but I'm waiting a bit to see the explanations myself.

For any /Bo build though, wouldn't crafted racist weapons like Sarhaling, Ex Lieser etc be an option since you need a rainbow set anyway?

Maenara
Dec 22, 2014, 07:00 AM
Well, yes, but that's pretty much true for all weapon types and builds(minus the crafted part). It's pretty difficult to beat that +20% damage. After I finish the PA section I'll get more into build specifics and gunslash choices.

ST = single-target. Addition Bullet is strong enough to be used in 1v1 situations where it will hit the weak spot more easily than other ranger weapons.

I only use Slash Rave on melee classes, so there's no way the final hit could do so much on a melee class, but 450,000, even on that very weak spot with WB... that sounds like too much, even if you managed to trigger Standing Snipe and you were RA/BR.
Regardless, Slash Rave should not be advised as a mainstay ranger PA.

I'm really not sure Serpent Air beats Rage Dance, let alone Slash Rave. The PA is slower than it seems (reiteration time) and it takes you in the air (not necessarily a bad thing, but usually a disadvantage).
I'm gonna have to test Serpent Air again, really, but when Ep3 came out, I tried all melee PAs for gunblades and the best two were Slash Rave and Rage Dance.

Lv71/75 BO/FI, no shifta drink or anything. Gunblade has 871 S-ATK, 890 R-ATK, Steadfast Reaper Lv3, never triggered. TAJAB was never triggered, either. Brave Stance active, but not Elemental Stance. Target is Lv65 Gilnach (:3).
Serpent Air: 1800 x 5 + 2200 = 11,200
Rage Dance: 1300 x 5 + 2500 = 9,000
Slash Rave: 2500 x 5 + 6800 = 19,300

Anyways - I never claimed to be the foremost expert in Gunslashes. I welcome input, I welcome suggestions, I welcome corrections. Gunslash users are very rare despite the fact that it's very good these days, and I'm sure a guide on using them effectively would help inspire more people to try them out.

In fact, you seen very knowledgable on the subject, Hrith. Why not help me compose the guide?

Hrith
Dec 22, 2014, 05:08 PM
I started using them as serious melee weapons with the release of Ep3, but it did not last that long. All other melee weapon types will outperform them in any situation, it's a bit sad, especially considering how powerful Addition Bullet is as a shooting attack.

I have made sure all my gunblades were usable whether I'm a melee or ranged class, so I do use them as hunter, bouncer or braver, but ever so rarely.

I have immense hopes for the eleventh PA, SEGA had better not disappoint.

Maenara
Dec 22, 2014, 06:07 PM
Sega, I would accept Banish Arrow/Vol Graptor for an eleventh Gunslash PA.

Hrith
Dec 22, 2014, 07:51 PM
That would boost the 1v1 DPS of gunblades quite a bit, but I would rather have a melee or melee-friendly PA that is good at dealing with multiple targets at least as well as Addition Bullet is.

Maenara
Dec 22, 2014, 08:04 PM
Here's an idea for a good mobbing melee PA: Step back -> Begin spinning around and slashing in a circular motion, move around the point you began the PA at in a circle while continuing to spin and slash. creating a suction effect that draws enemies in, then after a complete circle, finish up with a powerful upwards stab to the center of the circle where enemies have been drawn.

And almost every other GS PA would be better to use. Addition Bullet is the weakest GS PA. Pretty much only thing right to call Mae out on was the error on Thrillsplosion. Everything else was accurate.

God you're a nub. You seem to be under the illusion that citing numbers helps to make you look like a good player, but you're just a nub grasping at straws.

People who know you in-game know how terribly unskilled you are. You make a point in posting in every topic on PSOW, in hopes your stupidity will be heard enough times to be seen as something else. You dare use words such as 'competence', but you cannot show any, you berate people who claim this game is not easy, but you suck so much at the game, you cannot even successfully play classes that require the least skill to master.

I thought we were done with retards who think they have a valid opinion because they can add 2+2, but nope.
Go back to learning the basics, you know nothing about this game.

Did you mean: Reverse Tap>Aerial Shooting

Maybe. Are you going to contribute any other valuable insights? This tangent has gone on long enough in my opinion.

In any case, began build section, will try and finish and polish PA section later today.

Did some testing with Regenschlag, turns out the striking portion is actually quite strong.
Also began FI/GU testing; damage is very good. Against UQ enemies, with no Limit Breaker or other damage buffs, non weakpoint damage per use of Rage Dance is ~20k, Ein Rakaten ~25k, and Slash Rave ~50k. On Anga Fundarge, with a 40-chain, a single Slash Rave did 600k damage. Once my Roelia Bellow is crafted I'll do better chain damage testing.

No, but I do have a question: Just how does one go about getting Kreisenschlag's hits in? I'm having trouble with the shooting portion hitting anything. Sometimes the bullets just... phase through mobs... even bosses like Anga... And we all know Anga is not the smallest target.

Just trying to make use of my kreisen17 .-.

First of all, Kreisenschlag is glitched as of episode 3. It only does 48% of its power notation as damage, and its power was supposed to be doubled with episode 3, which means, not only did this not happen, but actually got nerfed by 4%.

All of Kreisenschlag's shots shoot out at specific angles. The first and last two shots are the only ones that shoot directly in front of you. You CAN actually land all shots on a single target if you spin your character around as you use the PA, but it's tricky.

The fuck are you talking about? The only people I've dealt with that called me unskilled think that weaker damage = more skill. You're the moron thinking Addition Bullet is a good single target PA. You know, last I talked to you in-game, you were telling me how Wand Gear hit twice at max gear and treating me like a twit for not being able to tell. I have no interest in your opinion of me. If my knowledge of the game is shallow, yours is nonexistent.

I said Addition Bullet was weak. That's fact. It does low damage. I did not say it was bad for mobbing, I did not say that it was bad for its execution speed, I only said that it was low damage and that it was poor for single targets. Like bosses. And it is. Don't agree? Prove me wrong.

Now I'd really like to know what people have told you all about what a terrible player I am, because I play with almost no one in the first place, and it really sounds like you're just making shit up to make me look bad. So if you could please cite some names, and what was actually said, so that I can tell that you're actually not making shit up to discredit me simply because you don't have anything real to discredit my ability as a player, that'd be great. Thanks.

In terms of just numbers, it is. Since the correction was purely about what kind of numbers a PA dishes out, the only relevant thing to bring up was the numbers. Obviously, Addition Bullet is a great PA. Damage isn't the only factor for that. But those other factors don't say how much damage it does. And its damage is pretty low compared to every other GS PA.

Right, but if you want to compare Slash Rave to Addbullet, you obviously need to consider it from a dps standpoint, not just which has bigger numbers which I know you know, just wanted to state it to be explicit. I guess I just didn't see the point to discussing pure damage numbers when dps is the relevant quantity.

It's impossible to compare DPS with the way I have the ratings set up. You can't compare the DPS of the ranged portion of Slash Rave with the DPS of Addition Bullet because that would be flat-out ignoring the damage that the striking portion does. That's why I also have a speed rating. You can see how much damage the PA does, and how fast it does it.

Could just split up DPS by striking or ranged.

Total Power:
Additional Bullet's total Power/Time: 698%/s
Slash Rave's total Power/Time: 1,210%/s

Striking Portion:
Additional Bullet: 698%/s * 25% = 174.5%/s
Slash Rave: 1210%/s*55% = 665.5%/s

Ranged Portion:
Additional Bullet: 698%/s*75% = 523.5%/s
Slash Rave: 1210%/s*45% = 544.5%/s

Now you have values that you can multiply attack with, apply specific striking/ranged multipliers on for comparison.

Unfortunately, information regarding how long each PA takes to execute and JA timing isn't available as far as I'm aware, otherwise I would have calculated DPS in addition to providing flat damage numbers. So this is pretty much the best I can do. I don't do anything more than spread information already available, actually finding things like that is too much work.

But uh, looks like Walkure already had that covered, and it indicates Slash Rave is better DPS for striking, ranged, and combined damage. Maybe I should have looked at his melee PA thread, thought GS was excluded for whatever reason.

Yeah I thought Walkure had just melee weapons and not Gunslashes for whatever reason. Should have double checked.

Well, I could calculate DPS easily with this factoring in striking/ranged differences for each of the suggested class combos, but I think it'd really be more appropriate to ask for permission first.

Kreigenslag and Thrillsplosion aren't accurate though, Kreigenslag does 48% of its notation at best, and Thrillsplosion does 20% more of its notation than stated. Think that should be pointed out.

I recorded all orange-weapon PAs. Knock yourself out, but I should really note some of the crudities/flaws of it I still haven't got around to fixing:

It's mostly melee-focused (I adjusted power/time and power/PP on the chart around expected attack values for each weapon on a standard Fighter build). It's a little bit more muddling for Gunslash in particular since it has split S-R attack and that doesn't reflect properly. For total accuracy I'd go back and change that, but with the L17 disc boosts to other melee weapons, and gear skills for Fighter weapons, I lost most of my interest in melee gunslash.

Right now I'm considering just phasing out L16, and including unadjusted power/time and whatnot and have the attack-adjusted comparisons as a pseudo-DPS number to lower confusion a bit. Those are shown in each weapon's tab on the sheet, but not on the tables as of right now.

DPS time. Gonna use level 16 for this since the improvements for 17 are minimal and Slash Rave's DPS for level 17 is missing.

Corrections are as follows:

Kreigenslag: 48% of notation
Thrillsplosion: 120% of notation

Kreigenslag = 552 damage/s
Thrillsplosion = 777 damage/s

Striking damage:

Serpent Air: 1,117/s
Tri-Impact: 965/s
Rage Dance: 629.2/s
Slash Rave: 596.7/s
Ein Raketen: 522/s
Regenslag: 290.4/s
Kreigenslag: 276/s
Addition Bullet: 166/s
Thrillsplosion: 0/s
Aiming Shot: 0/s

Ranged damage:

Thrillsplosion: 777/s
Aiming Shot: 650/s
Ein Raketen: 522/s
Slash Rave: 508.3/s
Addition Bullet: 498/s
Rage Dance: 338.8/s
Kreigenslag: 276/s
Regenslag: 237.6/s
Serpent Air: 0/s
Tri-Impact: 0/s

Total damage:

Serpent Air: 1,117/s (1,117/s striking)
Slash Rave: 1,105/s (596.7/s striking, 508.3/s ranged)
Ein Raketen: 1,044/s (522/s striking, 522/s ranged)
Rage Dance: 968/s (629.2/s striking, 338.8/s ranged)
Tri-Impact: 965/s (965/s striking)
Thrillsplosion: 777/s (777/s ranged)
Addition Bullet: 664/s (166/s striking, 498/s ranged)
Aiming Shot: 650/s (650/s ranged)
Kreigenslag: 552/s (276/s striking, 276/s ranged)
Regenslag: 528/s (290.4/s striking, 237.6/s ranged)

Serpent Air has best DPS for striking damage, Thrillsplosion has best DPS for ranged damage, Slash Rave is the most PP efficient. Since Addition Bullet's kick is basically worthless but holds 25% of its total damage, AB has the worst unweighted DPS among all GS PAs, and is least PP efficient too.

I can weigh damage by build, but that'll probably need another post so it's easier to read, and not all that sure it'll even be that necessary.

AddBullet's power isn't that low, since it can hit double damage in places where striking damage can't. But then again, AimShot can do that too, and it would be silly to use AddBullet on a single target instead

It's still low. Adjusting DPS to take into account headshots...

Striking damage:

Serpent Air: 1,117/s

Rage Dance: 629.2/s
Slash Rave: 596.7/s
Ein Raketen: 522/s
Regenslag: 290.4/s
Kreigenslag: 276/s
Addition Bullet: 166/s
Thrillsplosion: 0/s
Aiming Shot: 0/s

Ranged damage:

Thrillsplosion: 1,554/s
Aiming Shot: 1,300/s
Ein Raketen: 1,044/s
Slash Rave: 1,016.6/s
Addition Bullet: 996/s
Rage Dance: 677.6/s
Kreigenslag: 552/s
Regenslag: 475.2/s
Serpent Air: 0/s
Tri-Impact: 0/s

Total damage:

Slash Rave: 1,613.3/s
Ein Raketen: 1,566/s
Thrillsplosion: 1554/s
Rage Dance: 1,306.8/s
Aiming Shot: 1,300/s
Addition Bullet: 1,162/s
Serpent Air: 1,117/s
Tri-Impact: 965/s
Kreigenslag: 828/s
Regenslag: 765.6/s

Remove AB's kick, and it only has better DPS than Tri-Impact and the -slag PAs. Still weak. AB's nothing special for getting head shot damage.

There are a lot of enemies with weak points that apply to all forms of damage anyway.

It'd do about twice as much damage as it is currently, which would put it on par with Slash Rave in terms of DPS (which is what Kreigenslag is for). Slightly stronger if every bullet was a headshot, slightly weaker otherwise.

Suffice to say that it would be really good considering its animation is short and has super armor.

I took that into account. Half the damage it does is striking, half ranged. Simply doubling the damage it does (which would actually put it at 96% and not 100% of its notation) puts it at DPS equivalent to 1,104 (Slash Rave is 1,105). Counting headshots, Kreigenslag is 1,656 damage/s, while Slash Rave is 1,613.

Which actually kinda contradicts what I said, Kreigenslag would be completely better in terms of DPS compared to Slash Rave if its damage was fixed. Granted, heavier striking oriented builds would have Slash Rave as superior to Kreigenslag, but if all things were equal, then Kreigenslag just beats it. It even costs less PP (even if only 2)!

One that's always fun is Ein Raketen -> Serpent Air -> Slash Rave. I'm almost positive that the first two link; I'd have to go test it to be sure. Could also trade Serpent Air for Rage Dance, but IIRC Slash Rave is better in the air.

I need to go fiddle with Gunslash again. It's not efficient, but it's fun as hell. SEGA needs to hurry up and figure out some sort of Gunslash Gear that differs depending on main class.

I can think of a few great ones.
