How to zoom the camera closer to the character?

I tried to set the option with the camera closer to the character but it doesn't work

For normal use during gameplay, the / * - + buttons on the number pad change the camera, but mind you, it can only zoom in so much.
For screenshot taking, from the Quick Menu pick Camera Select(?) and change the camera angle for Camera 1, 2, or 3; this camera adjustment is fixed and can not be used for combat.
