I spent a lot of last year writing because my heart wasn't into drawing as much then. So I feel really good about this. Nothing says warming up than a date right? RIGHT?

I've been working on my original fiction Aizora and this is just a quick thing I've been working on and off on. It's of the main Main character Kai during the few year time skip between part one and two of Aizora. Probably gonna rework the hair a bit.

And then I actually did a speedpaint to get used to painting with the tablet. It's a bit smoother to get the effects that I want.

Got some nice stuff here. The underdrawing could use a touch up, but overall, not bad.

I had always heard about Paint Tool Sai, but never had the luxury to use it. Personally, I'm messing around with Sketchbook Pro at the moment.

A month or two isn't too bad though, well, for me anyway.

I was looking at some old pics and I found one of my first Duman before Akumi. Her name is Loren (her real name is Kiri though) and she was a schoolmate of Ami's when they were kids and she's a clothing designer. Also I found a thing that saves transparency settings in SAI so I've been testing it.

I was working with the practical beta version of SAI2 while doing this. It's a little bit of transition since I haven't had the time to play with the settings. Right now I'm writing the second half which is a time skip so I figured I should sketch them out. [s]mostly for me to remember how they look when I start writing

Anyway, during the summer I'm working on a 50 prompts challenge and a couple of them I've based in Phantasy Star. This one is a special one, because it just might be a prequel to a fic I've been planning for a couple years now.

Word Count is a 3171. And as such it might be a bit long so here spoilered below and as usual the DA link to said entry (http://mirror-alchemist.deviantart.com/art/Renewed-Beginnings-573204225) if you want to read about my comments about it.

Hyuga Ryght sometimes wondered if his popularity was a curse or a blessing. He walked around Clyez City within the Guardians' Colony. He wasn't oblivious to the double takes or the murmurs his fellow Guardians and citizens of the colony would make towards him. A part of him wondered if the attention he got was due to his fame within the training school or being one of the saviors of Gurhal from the Seed threat.

Or...more infamously, being an associate of an assassin who attempted to kill President Dallgun.

He ran his hand through his white hair and emit a sigh.

'You don't make this easy, do you Ethan?'

The Guardian made his way to the lower levels of the colony. More specifically, the Central Table. He needed to push out those stray thoughts for now. For he had a mission.

A minor mission.

But a mission nonetheless.

Displaying his ID to the reader, he boarded the elevator to the barracks. It was an uneventful ride and short walk to his destination. He slowed to a stop at a gray door. He gave two swift knocks. There was no answer, but there were definitely sounds of movement beyond the door. He was prepped to knock again before the door slid open.

Ami placed the last bit of her clothing into her storage box. She looked around her new living quarters. It was still a fresh feeling that she was now living on her own. Within the Guardians no less. Her light blue eyes looked downward at the item in her hands. The road to get to her present status wasn't easy and she had to say goodbye to people along the way. In her hands was a double saber. But it wasn't of the beginner's build one would usually have. It was long and elegant with a helix-like pattern being surrounded by jagged fire photon blades.

“Vivi...” She mumbled.

Ami sighed again. It was just a few days removed from having her last mission from the newborn Cast. Ami knew she had to be strong then for Vivienne's sake about her ultimate fate. But this was different now that she was alone again.

Two knocks on her door brought her out of her thoughts.

“Who is that?”

“You have an orientation at this time.” Her partner machine responded.

Ami stood up. She went to her storage box to place the weapon inside. She dusted the stray dirt off her clothes and made a mental check of her items in her nanotranser.

“Alright then, I'm off Megami.”

The partner machine hummed in confirmation before Ami went to the door. It opened the moment she reached the door.

Ami was taken aback by the sudden male at her door. Her eyes widened. She was mentally grateful that she didn't yelp or anything like that. It would be a bad first impression. She took a moment to look at him. He was taller than her by a quite a few inches. His eyes were paler blue than hers, which complimented his white hair. He dressed in a very neat manner. The more she looked at him, the flush on her cheeks started. Ami wouldn't outwardly admit, but he was pretty.

“Your name?” he repeated.

“Huh?” she asked, “Oh! Right. I'm sorry, I'm just scattered. It's been a busy few days.”

She stuck her left hand out. “Ami Satomora, trainee for Mobile Defense.”

The male took her hand into his and the two shook.

“Hyuga Ryght, of Mobile Defense. Quite ironic that we're within the same division.”

Ami's eyes lit up at the mention. He was right. It was quite the coincidence. “Well it's not official yet. But maybe if I pass through training we can buddy up in missions!”

Hyuga chuckled at her enthusiasm. Slowly he separated his hand from hers. “I'll hold you to it. So you better do your best when you actually go field training. But for now, lets get orientation out the way, yes? You have your items ready?”

Ami nodded and took her hair out of the wrap it was. Two knee length braids dropped down. “Yep, lets go.”


* * *

The pair arrived at the Central Table. It wasn't as busy as usual, but still very populated with citizens and Guardians alike.

“I'm sure you know about the Central Table.” Hyuga noted.

“Yeah.” Ami replied, “Basically a meeting venue, a lobby of sorts. Also is the entrance to our barracks. Males and Females separated.”

“Uh huh, despite that the rules are really lax. As long as nothing indecent is taking place.” he added.

“You sound as if you got in trouble by it.” she remarked.

“Wouldn't you like to know?”

Ami's face turned red and Hyuga laughed. She lightly punched him on the shoulder. “That's not funny.” she mumbled.

“My apologies. But no, I haven't gotten in trouble. No girl has ever gotten that far to my barracks.”

Ami wasn't sure if she believed it. His actions sounded very familiar with what she had heard about a trainee before her. But she shrugged it off. For now. The two went up to the next floor. From there Hyuga showed her the various combat shops. She stayed focused on the weapons shop however. It didn't pass by him her interest.

“You need to get a weapon?”

She shook her head.

“No, just a bit frustrated they don't really have twin daggers there.”

The answer surprised Hyuga. “You're training to be a Twin Daggers specialist?”

“I would like to. If I can find better shops. I think Yohmei's have a better selection so I'll check it out once I'm cleared for there.” she noted.

“That's very admirable. My former instructor was a twin daggers specialist. Shame she's retired, might have gotten some good tips from her. And alas I'm a saber and twin saber specialist. Maybe if you need some pointers on using them you could contact me?”

Ami smiled the best she could. “It's okay, hopefully I'll just get better with time.”

The pair went up to the next floor. Hyuga explained the various shops there. From Lumilass to the clothing shops. Ami knew this was a part of the shopping center she would spend most of her free time.

“And over here is Club Commune. It's not very large but it's very good for just unwinding after a mission. And the owners here are very kind to Guardians.” he noted.

“You sound as if you're quite the regular.”

“You could say that.” he answered, “I've had the honor of having quite a few outings within there.”

Ami stopped for a moment. Then started to laugh. Hyuga looked at her in confusion. She waved it off. Ami knew it was in bad form to be laughing so much during a mission but everything seemed to click with her.

“So you are the infamous trainee who stole the hearts of the fellow female cadets.”

“Whatever do you mean Miss Satomora?”

“Please.” Ami said, “It's just Ami. We're nearly the same age and it doesn't feel right being addressed with such formalities Hyuga. But during my time at the academy there was mentions of a trainee who offered his company to the female cadets of his group.”

“I didn't think I built that kind of reputation.” he admitted, “I'm just following the pull of the Holy Light.”

Ami frowned a little to herself. In the few minutes she spent with Hyuga he was nothing like what her fellow classmates had told her. It frustrated her a bit that she believed such things. Even in the tiniest amount.

“Honestly they made it sound like you were a male escort.” she mumbled.

“Well,” he said, “I can't have you having that mindset. How about one day, if we're both not busy I'll take you to experience Club Commune?”

Ami's eyes widened. Her mouth gaped open at the invitation. Quickly she closed it with blush forming on her cheeks. Before now, Ami never had another guy ask her out before. Even if it was just between colleagues. “Uh-uh...” She fumbled around with her hands nervously. Slowly she nodded. “Sure...that's fine. Someday.”

Hyuga smiled at her answer. “Great, I await that day. Let's finish the tour shall we?”

“And that is it for the G-Colony. Any questions?”

Ami shook her head. She was attentive through his explanations of the various parts of the colony. She felt she could manage navigating through it on her own. Hyuga nodded before walking towards the Linear Line.

“Okay, lets do a mission to refresh your combat skills. So take this practice partner card and add me to your party formation.”

Ami took the partner card and noticed that his name was beside it in first priority. This realization didn't lessen the blush on her face at all. It seemed to increase. Hyuga gave a slight nod to her.

“I just got the notification that you added me. Now all that's left is to go over our gear. You have your goggles equipped?”

Ami searched through her nanotranser before she saw the item. She watched the item materialize in her hands. It was a simple ear clip. “You...you mind putting this on? It's a bit harder for me to do since I have long hair and don't want it to tangle and I usually would put it on before I leave for the day but I've been unpacking all this time and I fo-Oh!”

Ami's voice fell silent mid-sentence as he approached her. He took the item out of her hands and placed it behind her left ear. He moved a stray strand away from the goggles before stepping back.

“There, is that good?”

She heard the familiar click of the goggles connecting to her communit. Her eyes glances at each of the various icons displaying in her vision.

“You see the bottom left? That gives a rough estimate at how your heath is and any other party members as well. Let me go ahead and send the invite to your party.”

There was a beep with the prompt to invite. Ami gave a slight nod before Hyuga stats showed above her own.

“Good. Be mindful of your stats and help out your teammates if you're able. Teamwork is crucial to a good grade on mission completion. Now...we've been asked to look around and purify any stray Seed-forms within the lower levels of the food plant. This will be your first time battling real Seed so I think three blocks should be okay.”

Ami made one last check over her inventory before walking to the Linear Line gates. “I think I'm ready to go.”


* * *

The ride to the plant was uneventful. They arrived at the entrance to the area. Ami looked through her weapons and frowned. Since she was a Hunter, her standard issue was more striking based. Usually it didn't bother her, but they were weapons she didn't really have a high proficiency with.

“I really wished they would let us choose what types could start off with.” she muttered.

“The initial equipment not to your liking?” Hyuga asked as he materialized a saber.

“Spear, Sword, Saber, and a Handgun. I guess I'm okay with a Saber and Handgun but I really clicked with Twin Daggers.”

Hyuga went over to Ami and gave her an item. “Here take this. It should make using the saber a little easier. I would recommend picking another weapon or two to train with in addition to becoming a Twin Daggers specialist. Consider it my gift on graduating from the academy.”

Ami examined the disc. She knew that it was a Photon Arts disc. She blushed at the gift before pressing it to her forehead. The disc slowly disappeared as the knowledge it contained went into her mind. She made a quick change to link her saber to the arts before equipping the sword.

“I think that's all the preparations. We should get started.” he said.

Ami nervously nodded.

“Don't worry,” he assured her, “If it gets too much I'll intervene. You have nothing to worry about.”

The pair walked through the door to be inside the plant. Immediately, they were met with Pannons. Ami's eyes narrowed as she rushed to the Seed-forms. She delivered a downward slash at them while feeling her hair blow against her face from the force. The Pannons were knocked to the ground from the backlash of the attack. Ami took that time to run to the middle of the group and perform a Spinning Break skill on them. The Pannons let out a high pitched yelp as they fell in defeat. She gripped the sword's handle tightly that her knuckles turned white. Another group appeared and Ami immediately went to work on the others.

Meanwhile Hyuga studied Ami's actions.

Despite her reserved appearance, there was like a hidden intent in her attacks. He wasn't surprised in the least. There were many who signed up to become Guardians for more personal agendas. A grunt from her broke him out of his observation. Ami was pushed back from an attack. He took his twin sabers out and diverted the Form's attention to him.

Ami used that time to lift herself up using the sword. She watched in awe as Hyuga fought the Seed-form. She noticed how precise each strike was. Not a movement was wasted with Hyuga. Even performing a skill like Assault Crush seemed natural to him like walking. Ami had to admit, she felt a bit jealous. She shouldn't be since he had much more time to refine his skill and such.

But a small part of her felt like she was getting in the way.

“Maybe you should switch to something lighter.” Hyuga suggested, “Swords are very powerful weapons. But if you're not used to the weight in regards to your frame you'll quickly tire out.”

It dawned on Ami then that he quickly put away the form.

But all she could do was nod as she switched to a saber.

The two got through the rest of blocks within a decent amount of time in comfortable silence. Ami was about to take a step further before Hyuga stopped her.

“Up ahead is a Seed-Vitace. They can attack from afar with their tendrils so we need to be careful.” he noted.

Ami gave a nod and looked ahead. Her face paled at seeing the form. She knew the form well.

It was hard to forget the form that killed her mother.

The Vitace picked up on the two before it threw a projectile at them.

“Move!” Hyuga ordered.

They ducked out of the way, missing the attack. Hyuga immediately began to get closer to the Seed to attack while Ami switched from saber to handgun. She shot ice-imbued bullets at the creature. She smiled slightly as one of the bullets landed a critical hit.

'Now's my chance.'

Ami switched to her sword again and ran towards the Vitace. She was poised and ready to deliver a downward thrust at it.

Then she stopped.

Her eyes widened as flashes of memories went through her mind. Seeing Holtes City in chaos. Her and her mother trying to get away. Seeing the blood splash on her body as her mother was violently impaled by the same kind of Seed. The helplessness of that day coursed through her body as she dropped her sword. The Vitace picked up on the moment of its enemy's weakness to dug a tendril into the ground. Hyuga noticed as well and ran to reach her. He took her body into his as the two dove out of the way from the underground attack. Still shielding Ami using his body he took out a handgun and shot light-imbued photon bullets at it. He kept firing until the Vitace screamed its death cry.

He let out a sigh in relief.

Hyuga got up and examined Ami. Physically, she looked okay. But mentally he wasn't sure. She was tense and her expression was a slight touch of fear. He helped her up and led her out into one of the benches that littered Clyez City. He placed a hand on her shoulder. She shook before she blinked.

“Huh? Oh...Oh no! Did I blank out?”

Ami stood up and began to bow apologetically.

“I'm so sorry! I didn't mean for that to happen!”

“It's okay Ami.” Hyuga assured her while putting both his arms on her shoulders. “The most important thing is that we both made it out there okay. Despite that episode, you did very well. If you'd like, we can talk about it over some tea.”

At that Ami became stiff again. She looked up at him. The narrowed glare in her eyes gave him her answer.

“With all due respect.” she spoke in an even tone, “It's best I don't. It's not your concern.”

Hyuga was surprised at how quickly Ami was from friendly, to nervous, to this seriousness in a short amount of time. It did bother him a bit at the secrecy. He wanted to help his fellow colleague out. It was the right thing to do. But he relented.

“If you're sure, I'll respect your decision.” he said.

“Great!” Ami said. “I think the payout from that mission gave me enough to get at least GRM's twin daggers. Since I'm cleared there already I think I'll stop by and pick up a pair.”

Hyuga nodded as he removed himself from the party formation. “That sounds good. I guess this is where you and I part ways. I have another mission this afternoon.”

Ami froze in her steps. “Wait, you're not my training instructor?”

The look on Ami's face nearly made Hyuga laugh. But he reigned in it, he didn't want to offend her any more than he could. He smiled as gently as he could to lessen the disappointment.

“No, alas. I don't have the qualifications to apply for an Instructor's permit to my ID yet. I only help with orientation for the new Human trainees. But I'm sure your instructor will be happy to have you as their pupil. I think you see them tomorrow.”

Ami gave a nod and then bowed.

“Thank you so much for everything Hyuga.”

He waved it off.

“It's nothing.” he said, “Just doing my job as a Guardian. Become a strong Guardian Ami. I think there's a great potential in you.”

“You're just not saying that because I'm a girl are you?” she asked.

“Not entirely.” he answered truthfully, “Trust me, I have a knack for these things. Besides we have a deal of going on a mission together. I don't take those lightly. It was a pleasure working with you. Keep it up and you'll be my ideal partner.”

The two shook hands before Hyuga took the elevator down. Ami looked down at the hand she used to shake hands. She clutched the fist tight.

“I'll become a Guardian no matter what.” [/spoiler-box]

It's been a really really REALLY long time. For that I am sorry, life is mad busy with school and birthdays and work and conventions. But I'll try to be more active now that I'm getting a hang of this whole "adulting" thing. There's OC/Canon ships sailing but I try not to make it the main thing

Funny that i've known about Ao3 for a long while now but never bothered to write in it. Cool to see you rewriting your stories though, 30 chapters is a lot and I don't think I would ever have the motivation to do that, maybe. Welcome back.

How does it make you feel to look back at an old work and compare it to your writing today?

@Q HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAI I'm sorry I haven't been doing my group duties again OTL

@Yoshiblue : I was the same way tbh, I had friends who posted on there and finally convinced me that I should. To look back at my old stuff and now I can definitely see an improvement. It's a bit more time consuming but the results are worth it. I think it's in part of me doing NaNoWriMo each year (or attempt to). It feels good that all the work is paying off

An a quick two-tone piece (http://mirror-alchemist.tumblr.com/post/164954138692) It's of my protag of another story I'm rewriting (maybe as part of NaNo I dunno), I realized that I didn't really have any new pics of her and the most recent one was kinda too messy so I decided to do this. I guess I'm okay with this.

This is awesome. I get very excited knowing my style is being an inspiration.
The next step in Sayara-ga is to give up on dark colors. And let vibrancy burn the world. Make those yellows hyper bright. If i do have to contribute my art to "fear" its less gore and more anxiety by brightness. So keep at it. Or use the techniques for your own future works \o/

You say that and I already have in mind something that uses bright colors <o<. It's not that associate the style automatically with doom and gloom, but it really worked with what I had in mind

This one is more so a mesh of what I usually do in my own style. I still can't do back shots well but I'm trying. I've been focusing a lot of head and frontal shots so it's a nice change of pace to do this.
