It's still copyrighted by sega, just like bayonetta. They are doing it great, allow nintendo and sony to drop their moneis in their franchises, and receive whatever they asked for it. Sony is also paying for the localization of Yakuza 5, released this fall on PSN.

Yeah I will admit I lost it when they played the trailer for FF7 remake just because its one of my favorite FF games. It's needed a remake for so long I pretty much gave up hope. But everything looks absolutely amazing in this trailer. I seriously hope it looks that good ingame with that much detail. The music hit me right in the nostalgia feels also.

I would be happier with the FF7 remake if they did anything to convince me that the graphics they shown weren't just cinematic cutscenes. The typical Square fare with that title.

I don't think they've shown any gameplay at all. Even though, if it had the graphics of the last gen Final Fantasy games, it'll be enough.

Shenmue III is one of those things I've waited forever for. Still just announcing a Kickstarter isn't enough to get me saying, "It's finally coming out!" After such time, I'm still rather skeptical about its release, even though the kickstarter goal they set would easily be reached. That still leaves way too much cost, needed for the game, that could lead to issues during development. However, if it gets done, whenever it gets done, it'll probably turn into one of my Big games of whatever year it comes out. Shenmue 2 was one of my favorite games of all time, and qualifies as the number 1 game for which its ending sold me on the next game immediately.

Still, after last year, I want everybody to simply show actual gameplay with people showing what it does realtime. Anything to convince me it isn't a staged cinematic which doesn't have the physics, AI, or all of that stuff to run the gameplay behind it. Sony and Microsoft's (though mostly 3rd party) 2014 E3 demonstrations compared to the actual quality of produced games, was a poor percentage. I don't want them repeating that. I kind of want them to do more of what Nintendo did last year. Show people actual games running, with no staged stuff, where we could only expect the same or better when it actually comes out.

This is what I'm afraid of about Shenmue III because Shenmue II had a huge budget (70 mil? or something like that) and Shenmue III kickstarter targeting 2 mil leads me to either thinking it's already near finish, already have a budget but needs more, or just a hype train to a major flop. so far its going to be coming out first on the PS4 then later PC and XBOX one, so far zero plans for last gen systems and i highly doubt it since those systems are 11 years old and developers want to focus on current gen now and move away from last gen.

Key word is "remake" so I highly doubt there would be any changes/additions to the story. The point of a remake is update graphics and engine.

I actually think upgrades and depth added to the setting would be the hardest part to mess up, especially on budget squeenix would put on their golden child anything visual that's not related to humans can't go wrong. Most of my negative thoughts for any upcoming FF related game come from not being unable to ignore their past work, and music and settings have never gone wrong for me.

Writing/storytelling + Character development/Direction: Oh god.

Character designs: One of my old favorite and bigger influences as an artist but, for his overall character designs for his majors games; I've really outgrown Nomura's works. At least Yuffie can't not be cute, I swear Barret looks gross again so at least that'll be hilarious to make fun of again. But that looked like the back of AC Cloud's head so already lost me on him. FF7 remake too big of internet backdraft of a topic for me and tbh haven't played through the game 100% recently enough to talk enough shit about it properly, other than Nomura please retire and Nojima go away. And No matter what happens this game will make a billion+ on day one. Even if it's Sonic 06 bad. The hype is just already way too powerful whether the game is good or not doesn't even matter. So anyone trying a little too hard to hate on it's existence, they're fighting a losing war before it even starts, and in general should let the people who've waited a long time enjoy getting what they wanted, it's not for them and FF7 original is a thing.

yeah the gambit system was confusing for me at first but once i got the hang of that it was pretty awesome and fun to use ^^

I'm not, but then again, it's just a remake. It's not for me. I have the original, and I'm perfectly happy with it. I still enjoy turn based combat, and the remake is probably going to "update" the combat to bring it more in line with contemporary titles - which I find horrible. It's for bringing in new players. Which means a whole new generation of shitheads who think it's a good idea to name their avatars "SSJSephiroth" or "CloudXStrife" and give them spikey hair. That is, if it's even successful with a new crowd. I doubt it's going to catch fire with the RPG community the way the original did, and it may just end up pissing off a bunch of the old players by juxtaposing their nostalgia with all the bad design decisions that have made modern Final Fantasy games completely lackluster.

I'm not excited for the FFVII remake because I thought FFVII was boring. But I do think it's long overdue for a remake. It seems to be by far the most popular FF, and they've remade just about everything else. To the point where FFIV looks better than it, and FFX was done before it.

I can't think of a single FF remake that has ever updated the combat. FFI rebalanced classes, FFII rebalanced leveling, FFIII added new abilities, FFIV changed boss paterns and added an extra ability system, FFV added some post-game classes, and FFVI added some materia and equipment. But the core game was exactly the same. To the point where pre-IV games were still completely turn based, despite later FFs ditching that in favor of an active time battle system.
It's kinda early to find faults with it, don't you think? As far as I can tell, it's mainly a graphical update, with some balance patches thrown in. And considering how ugly and easy the original was, they both seem well needed.


For me, the battle system change, I liked the most, was FFXII. A little tweak to that would've been perfect.

I liked that change... in theory. In practice, it made for a game where I would spend hours doing nothing but directing the party, while the game played itself. And because of the complexity in it, I never knew how to better my team and never knew where I went wrong during a boss fight.
Boring, confusing, and difficult. Not a good combination.

Yeah I was thinking they would do gameplay similar to FFXV. Which I actually liked and is awesome. Though I would've preferred the old school ATB system but you know that's to boring for kids these days. Can't wait to see how summons look. But yeah I'm pretty hyped about this so far.

The areas look beautiful, and the gameplay they show means it won't be as boring and mindless as the original. And it looks like it's coming for PC too, so I'll actually be able to play it.

Nobody mentioned that Nobuo Uematsu won't be returning to master the music. Now we're going to have a bunch of half-assed remixes that destroy the original feel of the songs and areas.

Episodically? I'm actually kind of interested. I'll be able to take my time and enjoy each part before the next spot is released, and I can only pay for a small section of the game if I end up not liking it. But at the same time, that kind of worries me. Does that mean the flow of the game is going to be different?

I'm okay with it being episodic because that might mean getting the game alot sooner and it can be a bigger game. On the other hand you'd have to wait for each release and might lose interest. Also it might cost more in the end for the full game.

Square-Enix's comment about how each entry will have the level of content of a full release probably also means it will be priced similar to a full release. Maybe not $60, but $40 or $50? I wouldn't be shocked.
