I'd like opinions on whether people prefer appends or full updates, or what I just did and let it be appends for like 5 updates then smash them into one base.
Thanks again as always! I prefer the appends just because its easier to sort through. For example if I am looking for a more recent item I know it came out in 'X' update. But it's honestly up to you, what ever is easier for you since you're the one providing this for us.

Find every copy of it and sort through them. That's the rough part of wanting something used in cutscenes.
'cause sega likes to make a copy of every single asset short of the skybox for every cutscene :v

Contribution to the file directory would be lovely

I have though I went through the only 5 or 6 copies and none of them worked. Most ended up with Kaori's greatsword as a katana. :/

I remember trying several ICEs provided by someone earlier in this thread for Gram (Kohri's Sword)

One of them was literally nothing
One of them was the blade except that it had Hitsugi's katana's sheath glued to it
and the other one was Hitsugi's first blade but broken

I'm currently having some issues with the edits i made after repacking in the tutorial it says to add 8 bytes of 00 with a hex editor to the dds to fix it from crashing however I'm still seeing crashes on preview of my character its clear something is wrong I'm not sure what.

I cant figure it out it shows up in character select but soon after selecting crashes on entry to the arks ship my guess its patched in some way where it kicks it out however I could be wrong

It's really not recommended in the slightest. Messing with animations is VERY iffy compared to everything else.

I remember long time ago. (Can't recall if it was in here or not) Someone had a picture of what appeared to be reskinned orbit weapon of a more...orange/black/red color scheme.....

Edit: I can't 100% say that these files are not in the game since I don't really go through the files of the game. I do know that they're not present in the most recent Icon file list though, they might not be added into the game until much later. It has been 10 months since these were found and only appeared once (to my knowledge).

one issue:
-Some effects will have problems when repacked, implies that you need to erase effect files in order to use it, trial and error works here.

I could use a little help, I am trying to edit DDS files with Photoshop, but it won't open them. I have installed the NVIDIA plugin that should enable PS to open DDS files, three times. And it refuses to work. Any ideas?

I noticed that the keyhole turtleneck basewear changes when paired with some outerwears. Would it be possible to replace the original basewear with this version if I knew the file names?

Alrighty, so this is gonna be a bit of a hefty post. Let's see if I can keep track of it all.

Hello everyone! In a short break from modding costumes, I came to share the great deed that my friend has showed me: how to create a GV hair from a non GV hair.

Step 1: Locate the hair you want and make sure you have the programs needed.

So you want to make a GV hair? First off, you need to make sure that you have a program that can edit .dds files. The one I use is Paint.net, which there is a link to in the guide which is linked on the first post. Along with that, you need the de-icer and repacker, but if you're doing mods, you should already have those! (Also in the guide on the front post)

After you do that, locate the hair you want to GV. There is a file list HERE (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1GQwG49iYM1sgJhyAU5AWP-gboemzfIZjBGjTGEZSET4/edit#gid=463223600). Clicking the tabs at the bottom will get you a lot of things, but you want the one that says "Hairstyles." For this tutorial, I'll be using シャオヘアー , or Xiao hair.


Step 2: Unpack the file, and make a folder for the mod.

Now you might be saying "But WarSarah, why such a redundant step?" Because you ALWAYS want a file back up!

I always make a a folder labeled with the mod I'm doing, and then make two folders inside of that labeled "REPACKED" and "BACKUPS". Like so:

Using the list, copy the ice name and search for it in your win32 in the pso2_bin folder. You want to copy the file when it comes up, and paste it into the backups folder before doing anything else. After you do that, feel free to unpack the file, and drop it in the main mod folder for the hair.


Step 3: Let's color us some GV, baby.


This is where it gets tricky. So once you have the iced file with the textures, you'll want to open in. Inside the folder, it should look something like this (with the proper file designations, of course):

The files we're using today are the _d and _m files. Don't touch the other ones. To start off, open up the _d file. It should look a little something like this:

You'll want to go to the toolbar up top (assuming you're using Paint.net) and click the adjustments tab:

For color editing, you'll want the Hue/Saturation option:

(Certain hairs don't come in color though, so there will be a little P.S indicating what to do with non colored hairs.)

Mess with the sliders until you get the desired color you want for the GV:

Now that we've taken care of the _d file, it's time to save it.

In order to make sure the files work properly, you absolutely must save with settings I tell you. The hair will break otherwise:
So when you go to save, make sure it you save it over .dds file. When saving, you MUST (must) [M U S T] save the files in the DXT5 format for the _d file. Nothing else works:

After you open it up, you'll want to create a new layer, by hitting the button with a green plus in this box. It should be in the bottom right corner by default

After it's made, go back up to the toolbar and instead of adjustments, hit "Layers", then "Layer Properties"

After that, mess with the properties so they look exactly like this, then hit ok!

After that, while still on Layer 2, you'll want to select a piece of the hair to GV. After you select it, click the the blue button on the vertical toolbar to the left, and click and drag.

To get a softer gradient, click lower below the image and drag up to make the gradient, well, softer. Do that for the rest of the hair, so you end up with something like this:

Once you get all the hair, save this one as well. You'll have to go through the extra step of making sure you save it as a .dds

THIS PART IS IMPORTANT AGAIN!
When saving the _m file, you NEED to save it with the DXT1 setting or else it WILL NOT WORK!

After you hit okay, it'll ask you if you want to flatten the image. Hit "yes", and then close out of the file.


Step 4: Repacking and testing your mod


The hard part is over! After you're all done coloring and what not, you'll want to repack the file of course. Drag the file onto the "uncompressed" batch file in the repacker, and remove the .ice extension to make it compatible with PSO2. Stick that in the "REPACKED" folder we made in the mod folder before to make sure you have a saved copy. After that, copy the repacked file, and drop it into your win32. If it all worked...

Well, that's about right. I think the one thing is Sega might make it self illuminate too. To do that yourself, you would edit the blue channel of the _s texture to have that gradient as well. The pink part should be a white fading to black in this case, since nothing else should glow.

I've been trying to make a costume texture (d) semi-transparent, but with no success. If I set alpha value in 1-255 range, it stays completely opaque as before, but if I set it to 0, it simply becomes black. I tried using both Paint.NET and GIMP, and the result is exactly the same. Is there something else I have to do?

This will restore the sky of the original Forest in all areas of it. This comes with 2 variants: Old mountains and modern mountains. The old mountains have some rendering issues and have an odd stripe across the tip of the mountains. It is not a texture problem. For this reason, and simply because the old mountains kinda sucked, there’s the modern mountain version.
The scarcely-seen rainbow has not been restored and won’t be until someone figures out how to edit .wtr files.
And before anyone complains, yes, the original planet looked a little lumpy, too.

Turns the ep3 lobby into the ep1 lobby. No functions have changed; Franca’s, the Casino, and the bridge are still there and you can still run into them. They’re just invisible. You still can’t stand on the ledges over Zieg and Franca that you used to be able to climb to, so don’t try.
The only “problem” is that half the staff of the exchange shop are standing outside or clipping through the shop wall. You can still access them.
Base version of this changes the gate area lighting to ep3′s because ep1′s was awful and made everyone super pale. The original lighting is still included in a subfolder if you want it.

New area stuff has been added with this update. Yggdrasill and whatever the undeground area is. Skyboxes (without proper names) have been added to the skybox tab.

I don't know what the problem could be besides something basic like lacking the edited checksum file, not putting the files in the right place (PSO2's win32), or accidentally using the provided backup instead of the mod.

You don't need the checksum file with Tweaker, right?
I put the files in win32 like normal.
The skybox is just...plain white. Nothingness.

Tweaker doesn't use the checksum anymore with the new patching method. You have to manually place the file in PSO2's data win32 folder before any mods will work. Just make sure you do it before running the game.

I don't even use the patch. :V I only use Tweaker because it updates the game faster than the actual launcher.

Okay, so I have found the beast race files. There are 4 texture files and 4 model files. Is there a good way to figure out what texture and model belongs to what race and gender? Or is process of elimination my best bet? How would I also mod the beast faces onto existing faces? I have never touched face mods, obviously. But I am now fairly good at modding weapons, clothing, accessories, hairs etc.

Face modding doesn't work all that well. Filenames should indicate what race/sex it's for (though I don't remember them off the top of my head-- check the ones already on the list?), but you'll have to put it over every face you have access to to find one that doesn't deform. In Beast's case, it does work over one of them stated earlier.

Anyway! New mod! Some might have noticed there's a tier 6 lighting column on the skybox tab now. Still not 100% sure how all lighting is handled, but on tier 6, MOST lighting is handled by that tier 6 file when the correct skybox is in place. I was confirming which file belonged to which area, which is easiest to do by swapping the lighting for something obvious. I chose a really dark one since it'd be easy to see no matter what area it was. (tier 6 lighting needs to be opened up and gutted, unlike skyboxes which can just be renamed.) It looked neat, so I kept all the test files and put them together in case anyone else wanted to use them. So, here those are. It affects EVERY area released up to this date.
This will not work on tier 5 or lower.

Alright, I tried multiple things from extracting models and such to extent of messing it with 3d tools. [aqp > aqo > obj]
My problem is, somehow I can't convert the .obj files to .aqp with aqp2obj, dragging the file just doesn't do anything.

Anything that I've missed to do the conversion?

It looks like you don't have the .org.aqp the program generated when you made the .obj, possibly. That's necessary in order to reassemble an aqp since an aqp is more than just the model itself. The program replaces sections of the data rather then the whole file with whats's in your .obj. As a result, the .org.aqp file is required in order to progress.
I did this too, so if there's anything I've missed, a help would be appreciated

NPCs are .cml and very different from salon save data. The only thing we've got concerning both of those is Agrajag's (I think it was Agrajag. I have a very, very bad habit of mixing up Agrajag and Raujinn.) CML Parser, which converts .cml to what can be loaded in the salon, and it doesn't work in reverse. Feel free to go ask them about reversing it if you want, but they've probably got more interesting things to do.

Because of how Sega decided outfits should work, all NPCs have their own separate versions of the outfits they wear. So if you want to just edit what they're wearing, you can do that without changing the player version of it.
(I was considering putting Huey in a different outfit on top of the everyone-is-Huey mod. H..a...h..a...)

The one linked in the OP will work. You can also grab the English Patch RAR from psumods and search for the included dummy checksum "d5480a26b3dea3dda37abd1b61fb47cd" every time they put out a new one if you are paranoid it won't work.

Well the problem is they're done lol. Main patch team is quitting, and Aida's team is taking over and uses a new system that doesn't use the checksum.

You can actually do it yourself fairly easily since you just need to rename one file as another when it comes to weapons/camos; so in your case, you want to find the file 5137df89f4398c8e603f6af0afd2171b (the weapon you want the visuals of) in your game directory and copy it, then rename it as a85f057d2b659ff36cc3eb365d75f014 (the weapon you want to replace) and put that file back into the game directory. At least, that's how it should work, I personally haven't done it myself.

The mini anga makes my game crash. But I got the AIS mag working. Can anyone get the mini anga working since it has a unique aqe file eff_wp_mag_angafant01. Keeping it or removing it cause me to CTD. Any idea what to do?

After one update, the game didn't like animations that were named wrong sometimes. Make sure they're named correctly. I also had to put .dds in the group1.txt for anga to get it to work right. But it does seem to work over other mags.

But why?
Because I play a lot of melee classes and suffer from unstable framerates at times, so doing successful JAs in situations where 12 people are piled on the same target is difficult. Often times, the only cue I have to go on is the movement of my character’s legs since all of the flashy effects are covering the rest of them AND the JA circle. An unstable framerate means that I can’t rely on the usual rhythm, so just knowing the rhythm for the weapon/PA’s JA isn’t enough.
With those effects removed, I can see the visual cues for JA much better.
I figure some other people might also have this problem and want a bandaid solution for it.

With that said, I would not recommend using this during PVP. It puts you at a bit of a disadvantage.

You need to restart the client for this mod to take effect.

It may or may not actually be related to the mod itself (I may just need to reboot lol), but I’ve also noted that loading in NPCs in the campship staggers a bit. Just when they’re initially loading in, though. It’s fine after that.

I like this mod and want to use it, but it outright removes some pets and makes them unusable (I haven't looked at all of them). Torim and Wanda never appear when I switch to them, which is a shame cause the mod really does improve my framerates.

We already did it between weapons and camos, and between NPC outfits and costumes, but I wanted to make sure if between base and costume was possible. Probably can't & I'd understand if you didn't wanna take the time to find out, but was there anyway of excluding yourself from this mod?
What I mean is, turning off all JA / Attack "sparks" from other players but leaving yours intact? I can handle a few player's attack animations / hitsparks piling up, but more than four is when I start to exclaim "Can't see shit captain!".

I feel like one that simply removes the shifta(crit)/deband (cut) visual effects would be the best. Sega's lowering of other peoples tech visuals but not ever touching the super graphical spam of those 2 techs was something that annoyed me.

Yes, but if you want it done well, you'll have to get into model editing. Swapping them as-is will result in messed up UVs (note the skeleton body paint for emphasis) and more or less nonfunctional outer layers like so:

Pet stuff is now in its own subfolder. If you play Summoner, don't remove pet effects.

Was this mod supposed to completely remove shifta and critical effects because I still see them in my game and would like to remove them. Other weapon effects have properly disappeared.

Also, if possible could you add a subfolder for removing Just Attack rings? I tried to do it myself deleting eff_pl_just_attack01.aqe eff_pl_just_atk_guide01.aqe from the general effects file 23cb3d27206ee3f9549c940b9e966077. But even if I just unpack and repack that file without modifying it, the repacked file crashes my PSO2 client. And I'm not sure if deleting those aqe files is the correct method to remove the JA rings anyway.

Check the RED-COLORED "Helpful Links" tab. Download the extracted filelist. Download the texture lookups. (They'll be merged into one after the next patch, if you don't want to bother with so many of them) Look through the helpfully sorted textures for what you want to know the location of. When you find the texture, copy the filename and ctrl+f it in the extracted filelist. It's like magic!!

I've been having issues downloading from mediafire for the past couple of months. All I ever get is a white screen and even in the off chance it auto downloads all I get is a 0 byte file folder. I'm using both chrome and firefox and getting the same results. Anyone know of a way around this?

I have a new question about the mod unpacker. How exactly do I use it? Double click on any of the files (ICE, uncompressor, recompressor, filelist) doesn't do anything. ICE will pop up a window that disappears and the others will ask to drag and drop a file but disappear as soon as I do. How do I work it?

What is the file path for your repacker? We had this same problem asked about a few weeks ago and it turned out to be a path it couldn't recognize. It needs a path with only the latin alphabet; so if your OS's language is set to, say, Russian, and/or one of the folders on the path to the repacker has Cyrillic in it, it can't read that and will just disappear without giving you any output.
If that was your problem, just drag and drop those files as the guide says.

Well the file path is: C:\Users\Steingrabber\Desktop\New folder\pso2 mods\mods\repacker fresh

I simply unzipped it and dropped it in its own folder. I downloaded the mod from the modding tutorial topic so if I missed a step by step guide to installing it just point me in the right direction. Also I may have the opposite problem with computer languages, I run on an American OS and the read me and such are in faux moon runes so even if those files give me details I can't even run them through a translator.

You could try looking at bio weapons and comparing what they do with those. It should be possible to do what you're saying, but you'll want to play with the models, not the textures. If you need an invisible model as a dummy, you can use the model from this: http://pso2mod.com/inivisble-rifle-on-blast-sniper-renshiki/

For quick reference, models are aqps, the nodes that place the models (and give bone names among other things) are aqns, and aqvs are shader animations like the red infection glow or the 13* rainbow effect (not usually compatible with different model types).

Edit: And you should be able to do all that without actually editing the models, just swapping them around maybe.

When I launch the game, with my modded archive and the hacked checksum file, PSO2 crashes when the model is loaded. But the strange thing is I tried to unpack/repack the original archive immediately whithout modifying anything (to see if my edited texture could be the problem) and... it makes the game crash too. :sleepy:

Thank you so much, Arredoval ! A few data in my group1.txt file were missing indeed. Now, I can unpack/repack archives without making PSO2 crash. But I'll have to follow Shadowth117's advice and work on model swap instead of textures because when I try to edit a *.dds file to remove a texture and make my weapon invisible, I get a black model. On the last game I've modded (Dragomon Hunter) removing textures (via an alpha channel) made the models they were dependent on totally invisible... but I guess PSO2 models are coded another way.

The "Combined and desaturated female default inners over all default inners" looks great!

First time trying out modding PSO2, but I remade the male to female animation swap since it needed to be updated for Episode 5 (was missing some animations for Hero, so you couldn't do any of the weapon swap PAs).

I follow this PSO2 Modding Tutorial and still don't get this thing.
Which i should save as for dds file? I had tried on costume texture and When i run game it keep stop working
as Defaults save it work only my camo blade.

Depends on what are you trying to do; without any touch, they are useless.
If its an animation, you cant use it
If its a model, you need to repack it using different methods.

(Wearing 20+ layers at once is fun.)

Is there a more complete list of what corresponds to what ICE file than the google docs? All three of the ones I want to put together aren't listed.

There is another partial list that I've slowly been adding to the google doc, but it's quite a bit of effort to combine the two without leaving duplicates or deleting anything, so it's, well, slow. For now, you're best off doing what we tell everyone to do: Download the texture lookup and the extracted file list. Look through the textures (already sorted into subfolders, so you've already got all the body paints in one folder), find the one you want, copy the filename and search it on the file list and you'll have your ICE.

I figured those files had something to do with finding the right thing but I was too dumb to figure that out, thanks. Sorry if this is super obvious too, but where in the thread the base Texture Lookup that I need to download for most of the files?

Thanks, I found the files I were looking for. I have one more somewhat unrelated question though, (sorry!) I'm trying to convert a basewear mod into a mod just for a normal costume, it sort of works but my character model comes out in a weird dark shading. There's 5 files for the basewear mod and 4 for the normal costume, is there a specific file I need to exclude? I've messed around excluding different ones but it doesn't seem to fix the issue. I don't know if there's something special I need to do to convert a [ba] mod into a costume one then?

You can't fully convert Layered <-> Normal without messing with the model directly. You'll end up with a really screwed up result otherwise. Have a look around the thread (always start with the front post) for model exporting/importing and all that. Even if they don't answer your questions regarding costumes, it's best to use them and weapons (which I think they specifically go over) to try to familiarize yourself with the overall process that way first before delving further or asking for more help.
The discord server is going to be a better place to ask for assistance with this kind of thing. I don't do model stuff yet, but I know it gets tiring for those who do to keep answering the same questions that have been answered in the starter's guides when people want to jump into the deep end right away.

Ah yeah, I was just renaming files. I'll take a look at those guides then, thanks for all the help.

Really appreciate the Removed Weapon & Hit Effects Mod, Arredoval, it makes playing the game so much better.

I got the 2017-10-06 version and everything seems to work great except for when you remove Hero Talis Effects (c952a5104b7fbf73d12c0dff9dd3efab), which upon replacing with the mod, makes your teleport weapon action completely unusable. Heroes may want avoid replacing that file.

I tried this one instead and it works perfectly! Can use the weapon action just fine now while having all the extra fluff removed. There seems to some some effects still lingering on Wise Hound, but that's totally fine by me. Thank you for this. :)

Tried changing Female Deuman Fresh Face (f0bd30b1183b92cbf9b58b3bd2b7c0ec) to a more realistic look based off Prime, but after changing both pl_hd_0040_m_fd_nh.dds and pl_hd_0040_n_fd_nh.dds, repacking successfully and adding to the game, everything looks the same. Any ideas what the issue might be?

Not without poking into other filetypes which I know absolutely nothing about. All I did was erase parts of textures, and exp and damage numbers are the same texture pulling different palettes.Ok, that's what I thought. Thanks either way, getting emergency code animations out of my face is more than enough.

Possible, but SEGA uses that "graphic" in other places as well, so removing that will break other things.

Here are the steps I've taken, please intrude if you know I'm screwing up somewhere.

1. Find the filename of the weapon you currently own. (Bullet Kunai)
2. Find the filename of the weapon you want to display over what you own. ( Twin Demonic Gunblades )
3. Rename the filename of what you own, to the weapon you want to display.
4. Overwrite/Replace the previous file.
Currently using Bullet Kunai (Filename: 9f2edb86806dae91339f7ddd3dde88cc)
Replaced by Twin Demonic Gunblades (Filename: c49641f4bc44074b17184cd333f1c74c, Renamed it after the filename Bullet Kunai)

Comes up as invisible in-game.(edited)
Class I'm playing as is Hero.

In case it may seem weird that I'm using a camo to cover my TMG, it's due to being only able to equip one camo at a time, for I use Gix Sword and wanted to turn that into the A.I.S. Saber.

Don't forget the modified checksum. The tweaker doesn't install that anymore since we started to use raiser.

Just place it in the game's win32 folder and let it overwrite the version that is in there.

You just need to remember to drop it in there after every update to be able to use your mods; the version I use was grabbed from a more recent manual version of the English patch, but as far as I know, the one linked in the opening post should still work.

I was curious if it was possible to have custom voice clips to replace existing basic voices. For starters, I would like to implement Squall's voice clips from Dissidia that I can rip myself just fine, but to have them implemented in-game however, I would need some more knowledge of what file is the voice clip if this is known yet and what format files need to be, or if it's even possible to do something like that.

So far, if somebody wants to play around with this, I got this, put I can rip more if needed. https://my.mixtape.moe/cynsjx.rar
If volume needs to be raised or if they need to be converted to other formats, let me know. Despite not knowing enough about modding, I do want to help.
Hell, I don't even mind ripping EVERY voice clip from dissidia, to make it a whole pack to have on PSO2.

How is the mod manager supposed to work?
All I get is the warning that modding can make sega ban you and after that I am supposed to select a mystery directory without any kind of information what I am doing.
If I cancel, the mod manager exits (without closing the cefsharp.browsersubprocess) and if I do select something I get an error message without text and then the mod manager exits.

I'm on Windows 7 Home Premium and I have already installed the VS C++ 2013 distributable that's needed.

Is it possible for someone who is experienced with the music files for PSO2 update the CPK list in the File Directory? More importantly, if anyone knows the file name for Omega Falz Loser's BGM, please send it my way. Thanks in advance!

Necro since I can't seem to find an answer.
Ever since I installed Windows 10, the .bat made from the OP doesn't work to start up the game anymore, mods or no. There aren't any errors or anything; the batch file runs,the command prompt closes, then nothing happens. How can I fix this?

Quick question, I want to use the dual orochi mod with a DB camo and apparently I need to replace the current filename with the filename of the camo I want to replace.
Where can I look up which camo has which filename?

Alternatively, could someone just tell me the filename for *Ceremo Knife?
PS: if you can look it up in the mod manager, somehow installation always fails for me.

Is there any mod that can swap lobby action? People say it can swap with those action you dont have, still I cant hit anything by google or twitter. Can anyone help me?

There are group on Japanese twitter group that does modded Lobby action, but you'll have to find them and request to join, they don't like blank request.
Another option is to ask the English modding group, they have a discord that you can find searching online.

A couple questions:
1) some multi weapon camos only have 1 file listed like e.g. *Fighter's Order, how can you replace each of the individual weapons?
E.g. if I want to make the TD of that Camo look like Zeinesis TD, the DS of that Camo look like Lightstream DS and the knuckles of that Camo look like Austere Knuckles, How would I go about it?
For the order series camos, can I just change the look of each original weapon (e.g. 1* TD / DS / knuckles)? But how about other multi weapon camos like e.g. pillow camos?

2) Does anyone know why *Lux Frieden has 2 files for each weapon type?
1 for the sheathed and 1 for the drawn model? If so, which of the files are for sheathed and which for drawn models?

3) Can you mod units, in particular mod arm / leg units to look like rear units?
Especially, making arm / leg units show the effect of those fancy animation fx rear units like Titoria / Flower Art / Himekabuki Cherry / etc.?

That said,
1. All multi camo weapons have a file for each weapon in them. You'll have to find them.

2. Unsure on that particular weapon. If you mean inside the ice, sometimes there will be multiple models for sheathed versions, unsheathed versions, effects, etc. As far as multiple ice files, it's hard to say why that would be.

3. You can mod units like that I'm pretty sure. It might have to be edited within a master list .lua file somewhere though. I'm not sure. Usually units do not share an ice though. If they do, you may not be able to differentiate them however.
