Jack writes, "News from Sega.com (http://score.sega.com/games/phantasystaronline/help/index.html#notification)!
Beginning October 1, 2003 the online services for Phantasy Star Online Dreamcast version 1 & 2 will be discontinued. The PSO US Dreamcast server (11:US/Oberon) will continue to operate and will be maintained until 9/30/03. However, starting September 30, 2003 at 11:59pm (Japan Time), 7:59am(US Pacific Time), the server will be disconnected and no players will be able to log into the game server.
The message boards have always been an integral part of the PSO community and they will continue to operate until 10/1/03.
If you have a valid Hunters License as of October 1, 2003 and after, you will receive credit for the charge against the credit card you used at the time of renewal. This credit will be issued around November 1, 2003.
Although this has been a difficult business decision, we know it is necessary to allow our valuable production resources to work on new games. On behalf of Sonic Team here at Sega, we would like to thank you for making PSO an unforgettable experience. You have brought us much joy and many wonderful memories. We invite you to try PSO on GameCube and Xbox and share your knowledge and skills with other PSO gamers so your legacy will continue to live on. "

Goodbye PSODC =(

Looks like I'm going to have to renew the ol' DC Hunter's License, and take original DC Meira out into the lobbies for one last HUZZAH!....

That sucks....it cant cost that much to keep a server going. They talk about it as if its a massive drain on resources.

I really hope DC has as good of Offline Multimode as GC and XBox. It'll be sad to see so many of our Elite players disappearing.

I came to this site when PSO was but an infant. To see Puck 09 disappear was tough... but to see the entire servers take the plunge is truly sad. This is truly the end of an era.

DC has NO offline multiplayer mode, whatsoever, as a matter of fact.

The dreamcast phantasy star online was the original. It introduced all of us into the world of Ragol, where we spend days, nights, weeks, and years taking our characters through the same levels countless times.

No other console game could ever pull off that kind of repetitiveness before there was phantasy star online.

Phantasy Star did more than just entertain us, for some, it allowed them to find their one true loves. For some, it allowed them to open themselves up to an entirely different world from our own, and finally feel a sense of peace and freedom away from our daily lives.

As Sega put it, I hope all of you Dreamcast players put in the money for a Gamecube, for an Xbox, and get the games. Or pick up the PC version. I'm sure you know it just as much as I do, that it'll be well worth it.

From now on, I have a high respect for players whom have played during the DC days...I hope others follow such a cause.

Here's a toast, to the beginning of an era we hold dear to us in many ways.

Suit up hunters, because this is not the end...

Well put, Shake. Well put. I really hope that our DC hunters decide to cross over to GC and X Box, or if not, then please still stay on PSOW.

Aug 28, 2003, 02:40 PM
Oh, shoot, they're really gonna want to switch to GC and XBox now. :(

HUnewearl_Meira
Aug 28, 2003, 02:48 PM
Yeah. But, of course, most have either switched over, or they've left the game alone completely... Which is why they're closing off the last server.

Aug 28, 2003, 03:57 PM
;_; This truly saddens me... Ive been on PSO since the US ver.1 launch day... First they take Puck 5... ...now everything.

Those of us from those days truly are the most elite of the elite now. I will miss you PSODC... ...thanks for the memories. ;_;

Later, Ace!

Truly the end of an era. I have had so many great times on DC PSO despite the numerous ships that have shut down& the PK's I hope to have as many memories on XPSO. I will have to spend alot more time on DC till they shut it down. Thanks PSO DC. I will miss you.

I am planning on Lvling my HUcast on ver1. Which i have been working on for the past 6 months. he is currently at Lv96. I will lvl him to 100 and it will be a perfect ending. I am going to be on DC PSO a lot over the next month. I had been playing both DC and GC pso's for equal shares of time each week. Just something about the original PSO on dreamcast gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling. DC 4 LIFE!

I have a level 99 on version 1.

Right before It shuts down I will make sure that I reach level 100 by beating Dark Falz with my 3 Best friends....

That will be the best PSO Game on the DC I have ever played. I remember the first day I played that addictive game. I had a fight with my brother, I wanted to get another game but he won and I thank him for all those memories.

People run private servers on the DC like barburay and myself for the DC, so its not truly the end. If you want access you need a codebreaker or a gameshark and a broadband adapter(for mine only). I did this so there isnt much lag. baburays server dosent need broadband.

it's going to be the final chance i ever have to bring Sailor_V_64 (Level 161) ever online again? oh this is truly a sad state of affairs. I'll be with PSODC till it dies.

Poor PSODC!

First Puck now this?

Oh such a horrible fate.

I thought they might restrict it for psov1 players but not for PSOv2 Players as well.

>_< Such a sad sad state!

GSers will be out in force one last time as well. I suggest if you want to go back one last time you should agree to meet on a soccer field which psoworld members agree to.

'tis a sad sad day. I had PSO V1 since day one. I played a little, and was online the first weekend (like 2 days after release or something) and my boyfriend played a lot more then I did. But soon after I took over and it became my world. I would come home from work, and as I walked past the entertainment center to go and check my real mail, I'd turn on the Dreamcast so it would be ready when I came back in the house, eating a dinner made specifically to eat while I played. I did this every day and I played PSO V1 then V2 until all my friends had left.

Having a GameCube and Xbox, I got each on thier day of release. Spent the extra money to get a keybaord for each (ASCII on GC, and the adapter for USB on Xbox) and settled on the Xbox version because that's where more friends were. Still playing today, Andrina the third is now level 96 on PSOX (one for DC, GC and Xbox, reaching a minimum of lvl 115 until the still growing Xbox Andrina) and my FOnewearl already well over lvl 100 on PSOX.

Although I haven't played the DC PSO, I would be thrilled to boot it back up and meet everyone there for the big farwell.

I wish they could do something to allow just regular folks like us to run a server for the DC PSO. Shou ga nai wa, the legend still lives.

Wow. This really is quite a shock. I knew this day was coming, what with the disappearing servers and the shrinking number of players, but I'm still surprised. I also have been with PSO since day one. In fact, PSO is the sole reason I bought a Dreamcast, and PSO is the game that made it money well spent. I'll miss being able to pop in PSO on a whim and going online, not having to worry about monthly fees (no, I never got Ver2... I'm still playing Ver1 to this day). I'll miss the long talks I had with complete strangers, and the nice people I've met and had fun with. End of an era indeed.

After all the rumors,I knew it come to this sooner or later. It would be nice if Sonic Team allow us to connect to the JP servers instead of shutting down access to the entire game online(If the Japanese are still playing this version).

Thanks for the memories.

Aug 29, 2003, 05:21 PM
::sniffle::

Phantasy Star Online Version 1. The game that started the whole legacy of PSO. I knew that this day would come, but I am still a bit saddened by this news. PSO Ver1 started the whole legacy for all of us. I still would pop in PSO DC just for the sake of memory. All the good times...

First Titania...now everything.

Goodbye PSO Dreamcast. May the memories live on forever!

And I just came back not long about ... I meet new people, darn I think I have half the guild cards of the people playing PSO ver2 nowdays, most of the players out there were good honost players, I'm gonna miss it.

I don't think I'll be able to deal playing offline to lv200, it's so ... lonely out there; probably the best virtual representation of what ''Hell'' might be, as discribed in the Bible ... dark and lonely ... a real eternal curse

Seems like that affects only US V1/V2 Server.

THERE IS NOTHING on that subject at

So importers are not going to lose PSODC (yet)

Fools... absolute FOOLS!

Aug 31, 2003, 09:43 AM
big deal..need to shut that hacked game anyway...i was on it since day one and ever since that gameshark and codebreaker had to come and wreck it pso dc has become a big joke im glad its going maybe those hackers can get a real life and leave r games alone...and u all act like pso is shutting down completly...spite yea i also had lots of good times on pso dc but u gotta realize..u can make new times on the newer versions...once u dumfukks go back to dc ur sure as shyt ull get vk'd or sum other shyt that makes u lose ur char u worked on for so long..plus its not worth going online since they banned half the weps in the game...which really made no sense to do

Aug 31, 2003, 04:35 PM
I guess I'll be downloading all the download quests I have never done. I've been online with the game for over 6 months and barely scratched the surface of the possibilities! I shall miss it and my acuaintances online. Glad I didn't buy a keyboard! I'd have been PO'd

Kap

PS I'll be taking boogerina or t'morin out, my two oldest and legit characters.

wtf! if there are 1200 users on pso gc, then there must be more on the dc. times that by the hunters licence cost (im presuming its £6 a month) and the are making alot of profit. 7200 pounds a month has to be worth it so users can still enjoy a brilliant game.

first pso 3, now this sega. no wonder you lost the consol war

Yeah, I remimber the DC days, truly the best out of the 3 versions... :( sad to hear it going.

Sep 1, 2003, 06:57 PM
This suks y do sonicteam has to take away psodc it was da best ever game that i played when i first got my dc i hav loads of memories of ppl i chatted and played with Now i hav 2 try and get a gcpso which really suks.

Sep 2, 2003, 05:34 AM
Not true. Notice how it also states that by October, it'll all be gone. Meaning even Sega of Japan and Sega of Europe will be shutting down the PSO Dreamcast servers. Though it's very sad to see it go..it also proves that everyone either moved on or shifted to the next console versions. I just logged out right now to see the following:

US Ships: 10 Users, 2 Teams

JP Ships: 20 Users, 9 Teams

EU Ships: 6 Users, 3 Teams

So these servers are pretty much empty..sadly. If anything, they should at least allow anyone who wants to host the servers to do so if they pay for it considering there's still people playing. But oh well.

Good bye Dreamcast PSO..thank you for the memories.

R.I.P Dreamcast PSO 2000-2003

Sep 2, 2003, 05:38 AM
They banned the items cause most of them were aquired through the Code Breaker when they were planned for future quests. But because of the outbreak with cheating, Sonic Team called it quits and stopped updating PSO on Dreamcast. As for the cheating, I just logged off from a 16 hour session and haven't been touched by anyone who was a cheater. It's become quite tame lately. So now most of the people on are legit.

And people like myself are sad to see it go because it could have also been their first online gaming experience. I made alot of friends over the years and to see them vanish one by one until I was left alone playing is pretty depressing.

Sep 2, 2003, 05:40 AM
Actually..the amount of users is far greater than that. In the guild cards, it tells you what user number everyone is (including yourself). I'm pretty sure Dreamcast had far more people who registered, but far less playing right now compared to GameCube and Xbox.

Sep 2, 2003, 04:28 PM
im glad someone else feels the same way about offline play as i do

Sep 2, 2003, 04:33 PM
im gonna miss it, i played pso dc from day one, luckily i quit a few months after mass NOLing and such got out of control, so all of my memories are happy ones, hey dc vets, remember when there was no such thing as duping, you were amazed and actually laughed the first time someone pulled out an akiko's frying pan, and the lavis cannon really was just a myth?

All those long winter nights spent on the Dreamcast...

Happy memories.

And now, finally and forever more, it comes to an end.

Now that I read in black and white that it is coming to a definite end, it makes me wonder how real was it? The unseen friends, the times we shared together, are only memories now. And here I am, sitting in my little area of reality, mourning the loss of friends that I shared the best of times with but never really even knew.

Sigh.

Well, all good things must come to an end (or so I'm told), but I think that before those fleeting images vanish from my TV screen forever, I'll get out my old Dreamcast from its sleepy corner of the attic and spend just a little while on the game we all fell in love with those few years ago.

Perhaps I will see you there too, looking around the world we used to explore together, just, like me, to have one last look around the quickly fading landscape ?

Le roi est mort...

Vive le roi !

Find somthing to die for.

Yes, I used my dreamcast often, now I own a Gc I still like the feel of the Dc controllers, the layout of the thing, the godly name and shape of my beloved system... infact the whole reason I got a Gc was for all the sega titles out there. Now I say good-bye to all the friends I have never known... to the people who saved me from the dreaded boomas and helped me through hard times, to friends I will never see again... on DreamCast. I look forward to getting online with pso Gc, my name on psdb, phatasy-star.net is Maxwell Grave, drop a line on the message board, maybe I will see some old friends in the GC ragol... it will never be the same though and I thank you all once more for all the fun.

I remember the excitment of playoing, it never got old it never got dull, the trears well in my eyes...

Adieu Sega Dream Cast...

Adieu Phantasy Star Online.

till later days.

I never had the chance to play PSO online on my Dreamcast. Pretty ironic, huh.

Nov 13, 2003, 10:58 PM
I remeber the first time I saw the frying pan and heard the BONG sound it made when it hit. And there was no duping and pking.

I speant many hours playing this for dc, and it was indeed the very best gaming with the very best community.

MadIrishman, BionicNerd, if you two are reading this, I just want to say I miss you guys. Wish we could play like the old days. I will never forget my PSO buds. I will be playing FFXI after Christmas, with the same name of course.

Goodbye PSO,

Zackeshi

This is awful news... y! c'mon, it could still b worth it, what are sega thinking?

it sounds stupid, but does anyone think a petition is worth the effort???

pso was great on dc, and sparked the mmorpg craze. it should b kept in commemoration of the great times.

LONG LIVE PSO!!!!

I played DC since Day one. I spent many a night throwing down my controller and typing, then starting back up...haha good times. It saddened me the day i tried to log on with my DC and got no connection; a great deal so. There is hope however. I am continuing to work on a free (maybe) server. I do indeed have the resources for such a project, but not the knowledge. If and when it begins to run, I'll most definitely allow everyone access through a number ill try and post up here somewhere. So all is not lost fellow DCers. If you know someone with the capibility of starting a small server, then thye could do the same in your local area. It is very simple: just do a quick search on how to set one up and how to set up the normal server responses from even a windows machine. Try it!
