Well what do you know, I ran into Clumsyorchid today at Digital Life in New York City. I brought up various questions about PSU, and between him and what I learned about PSU, I'm currently creating a basic gameplay guide, which I'll link to later. Also there is still no word on a network trial.
Also while I was speaking to him, I asked about the status of Pioneer Halloween, and it will be released at the same time the decorations go up. While he can't confirm the same for Pioneer Christmas yet, he did tell me he'd work on it when he gets back to the office.
they seriously need to release a network trial version of this game
Sega are proberly hesistant because
A) its not ready, i.e the online world
B) they are too arogant to realise that a beta test would help them, even if we have to pay for the discs to be sent from Japan

C. They dont want to release another app to be followed up by endless whining and bitching from their holier-than-thou-art American fanboy base - if they want to hear Americans whining about everything under the sun they have Blue Burst.

D. They'll worry that like every other beta out there, this version will be hacked to enable what is complete of the single player game. (chrono trigger is a great example of a game getting hacked and so much more being seen)
