In today's official site update (http://phantasystaruniverse.com), additional information about Extra Mode was released, along with several new screenshots. PSO-World originally covered Extra Mode a few days ago (article.php?sid=1459&mode=&order=0&thold=0), so some of the information from the site update will be redundant. However, we do learn a couple of new things about Extra Mode and the images from the website are definitely worth looking at! To read more about Extra Mode and see the screenshots, scroll down. Also, you can click on the thumbnails to see larger versions of the images.

As you progress through Story Mode, Extra Mode will become available. In this mode, you will create your own character, form a party with characters you've met in Story Mode, and set out on adventures with them. When you create your character, you will be given a room and Partner Machinery. Once you have settled in, you will be able to select your team and where you want to play. The number of teammates and stages you can select from will increase as you play through Story Mode. Beyond that, you are free to do whatever you want. Extra Mode has no ending. You can level your character and raise your Partner Machinery in whatever way you see fit.

In the screenshots above, you see Ethan using a wide variety of weapons while fighting against a large assortment of enemies. If you look carefully, you'll see that some of the screenshots are from the PC version of the game. You can tell this by looking at the controls in the lower-righthand corner. The square and triangle icons have been replaced with arrows. Also, we see the return of old techniques such as Jellen and Shifta. Conversely, one of the images features two new techniques called "Nosu Zonde" and "Damu Foie." Be sure to checkout our Screenshot Gallery (screenshots.php?category=Phantasy+Star+Universe&subcategory=Sonic+Team+Screenshots) to see screenshots from past updates.

this extra mode is awesome im really glad they added that because i really wanted to make my own character without having to go online. as i look at the images i see on most of them.. at the top left theres a colour dot with writting that i dont understand then a lv. is that a players lv that your with or is it a creatures lv that your attacking... makes me wonder. well hopefully i will kno soon and im still wondering on what the difficulties will be if theres any.

hey same guy who just wrote the last comment i need to say 1 more thing that doesnt have to do with this update.... who has noticed that on pso ep.1&2 for gamecube or xbox that the game is always the same...like everytime you play the forest or other places the exact same creatures of the same amount pops up.. that gets really boring and i hope to god that in this they wont have it fixed so much on the spawn infact make it totally random and u never kno how many or what type of creatures will spawn. just like challenge mode because i noticed that that mode its always random... that makes the game sooo much fun cause it makes everything unknown. whos with me lets all hope that the amount of spawns and types are always unknown and u can never guess what your going to go up against :D.

I hope that they will haver the full character creation option cause in the magazien scans of extera mode i only had abou 15 options for shirts, pants, and shoes for clothing. that would be a bumer if they only had 15 options for shirts, pants, and shoes instead of 50-60 options for shirts, pants, and shoes.

This extra mode sounds pretty awsome and its really cool that u can make your own charcter offline because being forced to use Ethan and always having to use just him is pretty retarded.....but just have to ask r u still going to have to buy a hunters licence like all the other versions of the game?.....It was specificly really stupid to go online with Xbox....first u had to pay for xbox live then the hunters licence....and with the lvl limits...is it still gunna b lvl 200 or will they increase it or possibly make it unlimited like i seen alot of ppl say, unlimited lvling would make it so much cooler....

unlimited lvl...does it mean unlimited stats?

sounds dumb to me and not fun at all u_U

looks like playing with a cheated char.

the fun in lvling your char is that you come closer to the max stats after each lvl up.

if there's no max lvl, then there won't be any purpose in lvling after you reached a specific lvl.

it would be like driving a car with unlimited speed and unlimited fuel. at the end, it would be boring and useless using your foot pushing the gas to speed up.

ya i get what u mean but ya i might get boring but so would getting to lvl 200 then not having anything to play for, with unlimited lvling u can always lvl up....but dude idonno im just saying ramdon shit here...just play with it

well, somehow the best things have to end :)

hopefully, the fun in pso/psu doesn't lie only on lvling.

finding items, questing, team party, event, feeding PM...

the time you reach lvl 200, there would be new quests for you to get your hands on, and maybe a new psu! lol

i really think there has to be a cap lvl, reaching that lvl is like a self satisfaction.

then you can move on other char.

with unlimited lvl, the fun is gone imo. :)

well u never know...i mean its exactly like having a limit...just that after u reach the limit...if u want to u can keep lvling....i mean its just an idea that i heard someone else say, but to me it sounded interesting....altho i have never reached lvl 200 on any of my characters, so pretty much it wouldnt really effect me, but if not unlimited lvling why not add some lvls....like lvl 250 , or 300....like increase the possible game play, esspesially for offline players, as soon as they reach lvl 200, the game is pretty much over, so just incresing the lvl max would possibly b better, but were just probably just having a worthless convo. because they r probably just gunna keep it lvl 200 max...
