We're all stuck playing the waiting game as we jump at any tiny bit of information or news on Phantasy Star Online 2. Well, a little bit of info came to light recently. Don't jump too high, though! We may have a few more months to go before real news starts to surface.

From the most recent issue of Dengeki Games and via the news site Shougai PSO (http://www.g-heaven.net/topics/2011/01/110127d.html), an interview with Producer Sakai, Senior Director Terada and Director Suganuma has shed a little more light on PSO2

Development of PSO2 has been running alongside PSP2 Infinity, so the game is further along in development than some people likely think.

Some kind of announcement may be made around the end of April, during the finals of the Infinity Grand Prix.

PSO2 will not be set in either Ragol or Gurhal. Instead, look forward to an even larger setting with numerous planets as indicated by the game's logo.

And... that's all for now. It's not much to work with, but it's definitely a start. Join in the discussion of this news in this thread (http://www.pso-world.com/forums/showthread.php?t=185313)!

This is exactly what I wanted. A brand-new location. However, I expect those PSO fanboy purist crybabies to kick and scream at least a little due to this news.

lol, I'm very curious of the timeline in this project. What do you think, Olaf? Do you think it runs parallel to the other PSO/PSU games?

I think it's going to come after PSU, just as PSU came after PSO (don't think that's confirmed, but it's what I believe). So far, I think every Phantasy Star game has been in chronological order (except PSIII, and PSP2i), so I'm sure they'll continue to do that.

I wonder when Rykros will pop up, lol

BIG OLAF
Jan 26, 2011, 01:09 PM
It may, or may not. Rykros never showed up in the old PS games until PSIV, and then didn't pop up again until PSU.

Bring on April!

Took the words right out of my mouth... Thank god it won't be a pso clone-sequel. Still waiting on gameplay though, don't want a console version of PSZ's gameplay. @_@;

Well this bit of info is better then no info at all

The only complaint I have as a "PSO fanboy purist" is about the expanded location. I'm all for new and more locations where you actually do some dungeon crawling; however, I'm hoping this doesn't mean a further expanded lobby system. I prefer a centralized lobby like in PSO, as it made finding friends and games simple, over the enormous amounts of rarely used lobbies that they had in PSU.

Coral perhaps.

I like the sound of "look forward to an even larger setting with numerous planets"

Well, the only info we had of PSO2 straight from SEGA was that it would be 'somewhat like PSZ' so who knows, you may not be that far off.

PSU people are so silly.

Since its called Phantasy Star Online 2 I would think that it's still somewhat directly linked to the PSO story and not in another universe. Maybe we will finally find out what happened to Pioneer 3?
Or maybe PSO2 is only the temporary in-development title and the game is actually Phantasy Star Eternal Planets?

RubyEclypse said that and I dont think he meant it in that way. I believe that with those words he meant that Sonicteam proved that they know what the PSO fans really enjoy when they released PSZ, so he trusts that they will make PSO2 live up to its name. RubyEclypse probably only knows just about as much as all of us when it comes to PSO2.

Maybe they'll finally discover Cobol!! Dark Falz is on the move! Battleship Yamato has been unearthed! BSG fans rejoice! It could happen..

Yeah, we're silly, yet the PSO people have been playing the same game, and trying to find the same weapons for over 10 years now. Move on, fellas.

PSO fans ftw, we appreciate a good game and hate garbage like psu even if it was on PS4, here is hoping PSO2 will do pso justice and its nothing like PSU or PSP.
But more like PSO or PSZ.
thats my two Meseta.

I hope that it is Pioneer 3 and that for some reason they had to make a emergency stop and are now fighting to survive. Just for the heck of it, Dark Falz just happened to have something to do with it and you get to fight Dark Falz in the end! :D

PSZ was a nice chunk of nostalgia. A lot like the old days, grabbed 3 other pals with DSs and just killed Dragons all day, lol.

And call it Phantasy Star Online Double!

Jan 29, 2011, 03:22 PM
Yeah, I think they will combine different ideas from each game.
but I really hope magic goes back to being TP, and not PP from weapons...
call me a PSO purist, but weapons don't make the force.

If they fail they shouldn't even call it PSO 2,they should just leave it alone and let the game die in peace.I think if they go back to there roots and not give into the cliche's and stereotypes, and stick to the art, this can turn out to be a good game and maybe we can get our playerbase back.I remember when this site use to be full back in the day.I use to be obsessed with PSO,now it's all meh.

You know the only reason you play phantasy star universe or any new one is to find some phantasy star or PSO feeling right? well you can stop!! not even Yuji Naka(Phantasy Star and Phantasy Star Online producer) wasn't involve in all this new mess, he help make the 1st. ps-universe but he stop right after that one(makes you wonder?)...

I, for one, boycott all microsoft products due to the fact that they can't possibly compare to apple in almost every way and because microsoft can't seem to do anything of its own, and as a result, it always pisses me off when an incredible game comes out and it's completely incompatible with mac. Everyone acts as if mac users have no taste in games, and that drek needs to stop. Also, who's willing to bet everything they own that it's going to be solely pay-to-play like Blue Burst? The answer? Me. It never fails. But, at least it might be worth it, unlike World of Warcraft.

I am sorry but O.M.(*).G, I have been waiting for this since 2006. Best announcement of the year for me! :D
I am looking forward to play it on other platform than PC though!
