In this week's edition of the official Phantasy Star Online 2 Japanese newsletter, several new screenshots were released. These screenshots give us a glimpse of how the game's Unit system will work. Like Slot Units from Phantasy Star Online, Units will provide stat and gameplay bonuses. Also, Units will affect your character's appearance. Units can be attached to the arms, leg, and back. Be sure to click on the screenshots to view larger versions!

THE NICE THING IS THAT THEY APPEAR TO MATCH WHATEVER CUSTOM COLOR SCHEME YOU HAVE CHOSEN! Oops caps lock.

Lol I'm going to play all the races just like I did in PSU and PSO.
I loved all of the classes but I have a tendency to play Highest Power gunners.
My favorite class I have to say are Forces though. Just too much fun

Have to say I'm not a fan of the units; the HUnewearl looks a bit stupid with stuff all over her. I'd need to see more to make a better opinion though.

This concept was thought of before PSO was ever made! you can see it on the concept art of the first PSO! These "Mag things" floating around the character specially noticeable the one floating down there near the legs.
Its an old Idea I was always curious to see how it would've worked, now we know.

FOmarl looks great! I enjoyed using overpowered Technics when PSO first came out:>
I am so excited, I feel like drawing again=o

If these are like normal units, then rare units will look even more badass than those. Can't wait to try out God/Power if its on here. *fingers crossed for God units*

Can't really say I approve of the new theme of how all the characters, no matter the class, look like people in Gundam-esque suits. I liked it more when the outfits were more distinct. Here I just see a clutter of parts. It's almost TOO much to look at.
Mechanical hunters, mechanical rangers, and mechanical forces = too much mechanical in my opinion. Where's the cloth, man? Where's the leather?
Other than that, I love how the game is turning out.

You do realize this is Fantasy/Science Fiction right? Cloth & leather???

I can't wait too. P.S. I want some Kentucky Fried Chicken now... darn your avatar!xD

This kinda bugs me. I'd rather stat altering accessories and physical appearance be completely independant of each other. What if some of the best units look like utter crap?

Yea, what about the iron shields and cashmere tunics?

They should let the user's define what units are visible or not. That way your character doesn't look like a giant pin cushion running around. There are some items in PSO that gave me great stat bonuses but looked retarded. We can only hope there is a feature that will allow us to turn individual unit apearances on and off.

I like the Humar outfit. I'm glad they ditched the boyscout shorts.

PSO1's Forces and even female rangers/hunters wore cloth. This is pretty much all metal, which makes them look more similar to one another in my opinion. Everyone looks like elaborate robots now.

r00tabaga
Jul 29, 2011, 07:47 PM
It doesn't look like metal to me......and the FOnewm looks just like he did in PSO, so I don"t understand the bitching. You'll be able to wear cloth and yarn when the cloth shop opens so just wait.

Am I the only one who thinks the units look like some of the concept mechanical pieces hanging from the concept character art in PSO's Book of Hunters?

Wow... so as well as cool clothes an weapons, we get visible units AND mags...

...More or less, yes!

It can be seen both ways, they may be going for a more "realistic" (from an armor standpoint) look.
But, as others have said, it might be nice for there to be a bit more in the way of less-mechanical parts.
It's still too soon to tell!

FOmarl I see you in my future.

I imagine trying to wear both back units and a split MAG could easily make your character look cluttered. Hopefully they won't clip through one another, like how bulky mags and large weapons would interact in PSO. I'm probably going to favor the organic, flowing units for my female characters, like on the RAcaseal.
