[SPOILER-BOX]After nearly 20 years of the Pokemon Anime and the hopes of Ash Ketchum winning a Pokemon League this time around, the Production crew once again pulls the exact same stunt and he loses to Alain's Mega Charizard X in the Finals. It's gonna be at the point where fans are going to tired of the same thing over and over again. specifically Japanese fans who may have felt cheated as well and the 'clickbait' episode title used to spread unnecessary hype, only to crush those hopes.[/SPOILER-BOX]
Pokemon Moon will be the last Pokemon game I'll be buying.

Soooo you're not going to play a game series... because of the anime? Can't you just not watch the anime?

Unless they come up with a way to make up for how it ended, yes.

Unless they come up with a way to make up for how it ended, yes.Yes but... the people who make the games aren't the same people who make the anime... it just seems kinda petty to quit an entire game series because a loose anime adaptation had an unsatisfactory ending.

The anime and its lead are trash and OP I'm with Kondibob for your reason of quitting the franchise because of the lousy anime

I think the anime recycles the same thing over and over because they're expecting new generations of kids to pick up where others leave as they grow older. The Pokemon anime is meant for kids, it's going to be tailored for each incoming generation of fans.

But as a whole, yes the anime is pretty bad, but I'm still a huge fan of the game series.

You're stopping playing the games because of the anime. But you're still going to buy the next game.

Holy shit this is gold.

I guess if there is one reason you don't like the game, then you don't like it... I doubt anything we say will make them like it again

I'm just going to point out that when has he ever won? The anime and the games are supposed to be taken as two separate continuities, which is also why anyone in it has barely aged.

I don't really get this rant since you're buying the next entry in the ongoing franchise, thus supporting the anime because it's been the same idea that's been reworked to hell and back.

He won once, in a league that wasn't even IN the games. Not buying a game based on the faults of an anime adaption is like not reading a book because of a movie adaption. While I can understand it would put you off some, you've clearly played the games long enough to know that Ash has NO bearing on the games whatsoever. This whole thing seems moot and unhinged...

Oh man, the anime. At the top of his game, Ash has never been stronger than now. So its really disappointing to see him lose to plot-zard. That said Ash is not the character you play in the games. He doesn't make the same decisions or use the same teams you would use. The games are your adventure. So have fun with it.

I don't think this kid knows what fun is.

Quit watching the 22 minute commercial and just play the real product: the game.

Quit watching the 22 minute commercial and just play the real product: the game.I know this is a really weird necro in a FKL thread, but the pokemon anime has actually been looking REALLY good lately, so I can actually understand someone being invested in it. I'm not about to quit PSO2 because of its anime though.

Also ignoring that this is a super necro, that thing Yoshi said actually reminds me of a pokemon fan-comic where the main character of the comic was actually the "rival" character, so you got to see just how op and almost mary-suish being super good at pokemon can look from the outside. It was fun reading the comments of people not getting it. :Y

This isn't FKL though, it's rants. I'VE ESCAPED.

Also, while it certainly is a necro, rants is so dead that this was less than 10 threads down on the front page. But hey, may as well talk about Pokemon anyways. I'm not too sure what to think about the animation for the new series. Looks bad in my book but maybe the writing won't be as bad? Doubt it. My friends showed me some cool mini-series that was made though. Some little 5-10 minute shorts that take place in various different times and places of the Pokemon world based off the games. Was kinda neat.

Pokemon Generations, apparently.

Pokemon Generations, apparently.I mean... the main pokemon anime IS still a kids show, I just meant it's gotten better. I've seen a lot of people complaining about the animation in the newest series, but I think it's just the artstyle people don't like. The animation itself seemed fine to me compared to other serial anime I've seen.

All that said, as far as I'm concerned the best non-game pokemon media is the Pokemon Adventures manga because it actually bothers to have a different protagonist each arc and makes them all very different characters. But I also never caught up with it so who knows what it's doing now.

Yeah, I supposed "aesthetic," or "style," would have been a better word choice. The actual illusion of movement between frames is fine as far as I've seen. I haven't watched enough to know if they get fancy with dynamic camera angles or anything during battles.

After watching a bit of the newest series, the only thing that bugs me so far is everyone saying Alola all the time. Not sure why really.

If I'm still a grade schooler, I'd be child-foolishly hyped for the anime. I really can't deny that.

I don't know. Once it goes on for so long, and still nothing happens, I lose interest no matter my age. I certainly stopped paying attention to DBZ about midway through the Buu saga, and aparantly it went on past that. Heck, I stopped paying attention to Power Rangers, and that was my life in preschool.

The Pokemon anime is and has always been complete garbage. It started the bullshit of Pokemon cries being them saying their own names. That's fucking stupid. Go watch Pokemon Generations and Pokemon Origins to see animation actually true to the source material and allows the protagonists to grab victory by the horns.

Conversely, has there ever been a good DBZ game? i feel like the games have been boring but the show generally good

I don't care that much about the anime. But as someone who has played Super Smash Bros. competitively back in the day, many people have clearly never been in a tournament in real life. People write fanfics where Ash's friends betray him for losing the League, but they have no idea how friggin hard it is to get into the top brackets of a national championship, let alone win the whole thing. Getting to the finals of a tournament like that is impressive by itself, so abandoning someone over something like that is incredibly petty (and ridiculously OOC for Ash's friends.)

How Ash lost the match, however, is another topic. One I can't really comment on because I don't watch the anime.
