Are you sure it is a "your data will be deleted after one year," and not a "your data may be deleted after one year"?

If it is the former, that seems kinda harsh, but if it is the latter, it is more of a standard "at our discretion" kind of thing to clean up server space and letting players know that the possibility is there.

Yeowch. I lost one too many accounts to rules like this one.

There's also no feeling quite like spending weeks trying to get a friend back on the game, only to discover that their progress is gone.

but not in PSO2There's probably tons of old accounts with like single level 5-20 characters that haven't been active since the beta, if they're going to be doing infrastructure changes with NGS around the corner then having the option to just clean a lot of that out would probably make it easier on them. I doubt the year long thing is the only criteria, especially if it's a "may" not a "will".

They better have a system that checks how much effort a player has put into a their account before deleting it. Would be dumb if a player took so much effort into a game, leaving it for a year because of work or something then came back only to find out all their hard work just went down the toilet. That would really piss a lot of players if a lot of cosmetics are in play as well.
