I recently got hit by the RSOD (reseting Screen of Death) and lost and corrupted my save file. I lost 110+ hours of gameplay time, and I am quite angry. Luckily I had a backup and I reloaded it, but I can only play Offline.
I email Sonic Team and Sega, this is what I said:

Dear Sir or Madam,
I recently had the unfortunate experience of a RSOD (Reseting Screen of
Death). When we were in Mines 2, and ready to fight the boss, I had to go
grab my other weapon from the bank. So I telepiped up, grabbed it, and went
back down. Now when I went back down, right before it finished loading, it
just RESET my Dreamcast. So I am now left with a corrupt level 84 HUcast...

I did backup my character when I was at a level 82, but now when I restored
it, and tried logging back on, it just delete all my items and I can't get
online anymore. I know you recently implemented a anti-dupping system, but
please let me explain something. Dupping CANNOT be stopped due to the state
of this game. One reason is that the save is saved on each users VMU. Yes,
you stopped the backup and restore Dupping, but have you recently seen the
Xploder cheats that let you dupe in less then 2 seconds? I never dupe,
dupping is cheating, but what you, Sonic Team, has done to the servers it is
really not necessary. Numurous accounts have happened corrupted do to the
instability of the game. Theres BSOD, LSOD, and the RSOD. Black screen of
Death deletes all unequipped items, Loading screen of death deletes
EVERYTHING thats not equipped, and the Reseting Screen of Death, is well,
you better hope it doesn't happen to you EVER. Your counterattacks to
dupping is not working. Yes, people who dupped are going to lose their first
characters, but all they have to do is create another character and pump it
up with Xploder codes.

I have some suggestions for you guys. First off, there has been NUMEROUS
corrupt file saves for those screens of death, with completely LEGIT players
(like me). People who played even for 30+ hours will be quite upset that
they did that all for nothing. I played for 100+ hours and now I just lost
him. I can only play him offline, do you guys want PSO to mean Phantasy Star
Offline? What you can do is have an emergency email service, if the player
has a backup, they can send it to you and you can check the character out,
if it looks like they are dupping, dont fix it, but if they are not, I
believe you guys have the skills to fix these save files to allow them to
work online. I have sent my save files to see if you can do anything for me.

Second, I believe the server change was for the worst. You're actually
"killing" more legit players then cheaters. With all the bugs in Phantasy
Star Online, what are you going to do with the people who lost their save
due to the bug you guys didn't notice. Please, if you can, revert the
servers back to accept backup saves. Dupping has just gotten worst, because
you guys made them LOOK for more ways to dupe.

I was recently reading at PSO World (http://www.tomeeboy.com/pso) and I came
about some interesting facts on PSO:

1) There is actually a petition to get the servers back, there is 170
replies to it.
http://tomeeboy.com/pso/viewtopic.php?topic=2577&forum=1

2) One of the news stories say that you will be reverting back to allow
backups. Does it say any truth?
http://tomeeboy.com/pso/article.php?sid=224&mode=&order=0

Please don't blow this letter off. You are losing Phantasy Star fans
everyday because of your server changes and crashes. I hope you guys do
whats right, and not blow off Legit players.

Thank you for listening.

If you too had lost a character, I suggest you email [email protected] and [email protected]. I basically emailed that and my saves to see what they would do. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/icon_frown.gif

I will... If they ever do.
Dont you guys think there should be a rescue Email service where you can send in your saves and if they can fix it, let them fix it. You can definately tell a cheater character from a legit character.

I thought that was well said. I hope they change the servers back.

I recently called 1800-usa-sega. Let me tell you, they are at all no help. I told them, "Why can't you guys make a bugless game."

He answered: "I'm sorry sir, but sega is doing everything to help even out the game."

He didn't know anything about the added server protection. This duping protection didn't slightly even hinder dupping. Now there's Xploder codes that dupe in a second. What Sega did to the servers is a Big NO NO. Gideon lost his character last night also due to the soft-reboot! What is going on here?!

Hey *update*
I recently found on Gamefaqs.com a way to get your backup to work online... you will still lose all your items, but after you wasted 100 hours on a character, i dont think you would care that much. I couldnt get this trick to work, so who ever has a corrupted save and has a backup, might want to try this.
