Does anyone here use, or know of a way to connect the Gamecube to a monitor? I have an ATI card with S-video in and coax in, and I'd like to play the Gamecube without a TV. I'd prefer to get parts at a Radio Shack or Wal-Mart if I can.
Any advice would be awesome http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

All you need is a tuner card and the proper cables. A friend I know personally does this to record videos for his website.

Look for a third party A/V cable for the gamecube that has an S-Video plug on it and use that hook up your cube to your computer.

monster cable's high quality s-video cable.
store.nintendo.com's official s-video cable.
interact's s-video cable.
Actally, since this was brought up, I thought I'd throw in a quick question as well...
anyone know a way to use my laptop screen as my television screen when cubing?
As far as I was able to figure the S-video thing only worked on regular monitors...

Maybe a USB capture device, such as ATI's TV-wonder-USB.
If your laptop doesn't have a good enough video accelerater, the A/V will be out of sync and choppy.

If you can use S-video, then by all means go with S-video. S-video creates a much cleaner, crisper image. A person simply cannot comprehend the difference without actually seeing it, so here's a comparison for your convenience...
Composite RCA cable...

S-video cable...

Even with a simple still image you can clearly see the difference. The composite cable image is fuzzy, abit pixelated, and washed out, whereas the s-video cable image is sharp and easy on the eyes.

There is a modified version of the component cable, that allows progressive scan play on VGA monitors.

Are there any capture cards which support RGB SCART? I know it's a European-only standard, but PAL Gamecubes can't output S-Video, and I don't want to have to spend lots of money on an RGB -> S-Video conversion box.
I don't think there is a Scart tuner card because the port is too big to fit on the card. My TV tuner card has composite, RF and S-Video but I am forced to use composite which is a shame.

I know this is an old thread, but I'm also interested in using my laptop as my display. I have an S-Video port on the back of my laptop, but as far as I know (never used it) it's out only. Anybody know about using that and the third-party a/v cable with s-video someone mentioned above? Is there such a thing as out-only s-video? It's a female plug *shrugs*
Snap mentioned a USB VGA-capture card - are these large, would they be too bulky to carry around? I'll check google for some info, but a reply here would be great!

hm, i'm interested in this topic as well...
problem is, all i have is a K-6 with 233 MHz, an 8 MB Graphic card (non-3D), 80 MB EDO-RAM and outdated stuff like that...
so... this one seems interesting:

or this one...

thing is,
-i wonder how the screen looks then
-i wonder if everything works with a pal cube (and maybe also with a pal dreamcast)

Wow, thanks for the links, Rena! I didn't know that site existed - amazes me how everyone knows of these "underground" type sites, and I don't. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif
Anyway, you mentioned you have the PAL GCN... these don't support Progressive Scan, as far as I know. So anything that supports PS either won't work how you think it will, or won't work at all.
You may want to double-check on that info, but I'm pretty sure it's fact. *shrugs*
Thanks again!
Oh, one more thing - I looked at bestbuy.com for video capture devices, and it seems as if they only capture video for playback, not real-time viewing. Is this true? Perhaps I was looking at the wrong devices? *shrugs*
