If you have Half Life, get Natural Selection. (http://www.natural-selection.org/)

Otherwise, I guess you could try Ragnarok Online. (http://www.ragnarokonline.com/)

I would recommend Tribes 2, it's practically what PlanetSide was based off of, except not massively multiplayer (not exactly newbie-friendly in some cases, but just keep at it, get good at something, and keep doing it, VERY teamwork-oriented). Very modder-friendly, too so there's a plethora of good mods is you ever grow tired of base games.

Jedi Knight II is good, the lightsaber animations and fights are the best part, I need to get back into practice for when Jedi Academy (sequel) comes out this fall. The way my little group used to play all the time was very samurai-ish in the dueling and honorable actions, which made for a very fun time. And the occasional 2 vs. 4 deathmatch is nice, especially when you get really good and find skilled opponents (my brother and I on the smaller team, four other people on the other, us winning by usually about 100-5 http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif).

You might also try MechAssault if you have an Xbox, I don't play it much any more (too busy on PSO), but it's still fun to tear 'Mechs to shreds now and then...

I would not recommend you get RO though. It may be free, but as they say, you get what you pay for. That piece of crap is a newbie mistake on part of the developers.

(Note: I speak of the PC versions of these games, except for MechAssault, I haven't played Tribes: Aerial Assault or JK2 on a console.)

Just play Starcraft: Broodwar. I still play it on a nightly basis, it's really gotta be the best PC game ever. I don't think it's the game so much as the people I play with but I don't think I'll ever get tired of that game.
