GCN connection with AOL BB

Okay, my friend bought the BBA for GCN and we're trying to configure it. He has AOL Broadband and from what I've heard, it's supposed to work with PSO. Here's the setup, a computer downstairs has the cable modem which is hooked up to a router, the cable from the router is hooked up to his computer upstairs in his room, we then unhooked the cable from his computer upstairs and plugged it into the GCN BBA. We typed in the info and stuff, but it didn't connect. What would you advise?
