Question about PSO version 1

Hey, today I was lucky enough to find an unopened copy of PSO version 1. Needless to say I bought it. If I remember correctly version 1 was free to play online right? I was just wondering if the servers and still up and if it is free. Thanks in advance.

There should still be one ship up and running, US ship that is, not sure how many for EU and JP. I don't know how many players there will be online, not many I'd imagine. I've heard most of the people on there are AR users and hackers, so watch out for all the PK's and CK's and what not. It is still free as long as you have a dialup ISP right? I have a free one that I believe should work. Thanks for the info. If it isn't I am still online for the Gamecube, but this was an offer I couldn't pass by.
