Long story short - my Asus motherboard, after a year or so of my horrendous treatment, has finally started kicking it. Some of its chips seem to be burning out as the cd-drive communication gets patchy, the BIOS has trouble finding what it needs, and unable to get online with any sort of stability.. forgetting how to type going along with not being able to get online.. *shiver*

Anyways, I put this thing together myself, and putting that processor in there myself was not only difficult, but took more than one try (I have a nice collection of broken processors going.) I don't really want to go through that again, so here's the favor I'm asking. Anyone, anyone at all, know any good sites where you can buy a motherboard with a processor already installed? The cheaper the better, although in the end I'll probably buy the highest-end thing I can find. Of course if nobody does that kind of deal, anyone know any good sites to buy processors and motherboards cheap? I usually head to directron.com, but I knnnoooow some of you have better >_>

(Tech Forum, or OT, Tech Forum, or OT.. well it has nothing to do with PSO tech, so I'm sure nobody will care <-- sample of bad train-of-though.)

installing a processor shouldn't be that hard, just make sure you have the pins properly aligned, and by all means, don't try to force it into the socket ... you shouldn't have to force it if the pins are properly aligned

and don't forget to apply thermal compound!

i found a site with motherboard/processor bundles, but the deals cost more than if you got each part individually, and it didn't specify whether the processor came pre-installed ... when i come across that site again, i'll let you know

as far as individually bundled parts ... go to http://www.bcd2000.com for processors, and http://www.googlegear.com for motherboards ... those sites have consistently better deals than most other sites i've found

good luck

Thanks!

Aligning wasn't hard, the lock worked fine, and the heatsink/fan had a thermal pad on it, it was just getting the heatsink onto the stupid chip >_< Very tight and I had to push really hard to get the belt hooked on the sides of the socket.. and it's easy to imagine the rest. :

Check out http://www.pricewatch.com , and look under motherboard combos.
Their site lists some of the CHEAPEST computer parts on the internet, it's difficult to find better deals than those. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_eek.gif
Not sure how trustworthy the vendors on the site are though... Never ordered from there, but I know several people that have, and it's worked just fine for them.

Also, NewEgg (http://www.newegg.com) is a very reliable site.
